Deck Description

Here is a revamp of a deck I was working on originally called "Game of Godsend" and was looking to play at my local FNM. The link to the first 2 drafts is listed below. Unfortunately the deck did not do as well as I had hoped. In draft 1 (http://www.mtgvault.com/razial/decks/game-of-godsend-draft-1/) I had a problem with not having enough removal. With a little feedback I then created draft 2 (http://www.mtgvault.com/razial/decks/game-of-godsend-draft-2/) which I played tonight at the event. My guess is horrible luck with card draw because the biggest issue was just not getting what I needed, which was most of my removal. Even when side boarding I would never draw the necessary cards. The deck has plenty of scry, good creature base, and the mana is just right. Perhaps it was just a very unlucky night for me but going 2-3 just doesn't feel right for this deck. The only deck that was a real issue was Esper Control but if the cards I side boarded would have just shown up I would have been able to win. Anyway here is a quick revision from Draft 2. I main boarded Boros Charm, removed a Xenagos since I found he didn't do me much good so might remove the 2nd. Main boarded some shocks and replaced Nykthos with Mutavault. Please leave thoughts and do check out the first 2 drafts.

It's not only legendary, it's an over costed legendary. 6 mana to give +3+3 and unblockable( lets face it this is what it does vs anyone with a clue). Satyr Piper could be something different, with the ramp from caryatid and filter from courser its more than enough ramp for your deck. you have 6 cards that cost 5 of greater(counting godsend)
That frees up 4 slots for your deck.

No because it has to be a spell that you cast and when you cast a equipment it only can be equipped after it is on the battlefield

Godsend seems like a card that gets sided out in way too many matchups to be relevant

Seems like such a good card though. I had thought to remove it but feel it could work very well. When I do have it out which is about 50% of the time it really puts a halt on my opponents. It's something I would have to think about some more since you have suggested it. Thank you for the feedback.

Your creature count seems way too low for Domri Rade to be worth the slots. Also, you should consider Chained to the Rocks as removal you can get with Ajani. If you want Godsend to be the centerpiece of the deck you should absolutely replace the Sylvan Caryatids with Elvish Mystics as they can actually accelerate you into Godsend and your other three drops as well as actually pick up a Godsend and bash with it.

Drop Domri. you don't have enough creatures to make him worth while. I would add Bow of Nylea in his place

1

deck issues:
1. Not enough creatures.
-also you have 2 creatures that cost 3 mana or less. This is why you're finding that you have to rely on the boros charm.

2. Too many planeswalkers.
- you don't need that many planeswalkers. And if you're going to run that many, you mise as well run a deck with doubling season.

3. You're creature removal is finite and single target. Again, with so many planeswalkers you mise as well throw in some WoG's or Damnations. Infest/Pyroclasm/Black Sun's Zenith are alternatives. Any deck with draw here will crush you, because you're trading card for card. Card advantage is extremely important.

Nothing in your deck is super expensive, but what are you doing for the first 5 turns?
If you absolutely need a card to win, you need more than 4 of it in your deck... or search cards. Don't underestimate draw and mana acceleration.

I feel like the deck is just a bunch of good cards thrown together with no sort of flow or anything.

You named the deck Godsend? If you want to build a deck that uses it well, you probably want a card like Lure in there somewhere. White pumps up creatures well, so take a few little guys that have first strike, or deathtouch... or some damage prevention to keep the creature alive, and Godsend will go a lot farther.

Any deck will never be amazing if you are trading a card for a card.

One of the most consistent and long lived strategies in magic is completely based on trading cards one for one, control. Incidentally control is one of the only strategies that has good matchups across the board and is universally playable and successful in pretty much any constructed environment.

so why are cards like eternal witness so valuable?

0
Posted 26 May 2014 at 04:44

Eternal Witness is only played as a one of in any deck I can think of that plays it, where as removal and countermagic, cards that are designed specifically as one for ones, are almost always played in multiples. I'm not saying recursion is bad by any means, just that trading one for one is a perfectly viable strategy especially if your opponent doesn't have a way to generate card advantage.

0
Posted 26 May 2014 at 04:52

Witness is a 3-4 of in a tier one Modern deck.....it is universally recognized as one of the best green cards ever printed...its hard to take you seriously when there are so many holes in your logic...

0
Posted 26 May 2014 at 06:22

I neither said it was a bad card or said it wasn't played in Modern. I did say that it is a one of in the decks I could think of that play it. I'm just trying to make the statement that decks can be amazing that are designed around one for ones, not pick a fight with the E Wit fanclub.

hey nice build really like it if it would be possible could you take a look at my most recent build its w/g with arthreos in it thats the title as well tell me if you see something i don't. and maybe help me improve it id really appreciate it . I'm surprised no gods in the deck. i think you should up your brimaz to 4 he is one that has to be blocked if u put godsend on him he will really get out of control. i think helios would be good for the vigilance and 4cc you can't go wrong . id also say get mana confluence up to 3-4 great card for a mana short of color position its better then a shock id rather take one then 2 for playing it untapped. love the primeval bounty in this deck . i think 2 dictate to heliod would be good in here because of the flash . I think deiced should be in the main 2 to 3 its so good. I'm not sure about courser its a great card but not to sure if it fits if it runs well in the deck keep it. fleecemain lion would be good so would voice. archangel of thune i really don't know what to think about it in here 2 would be better. this deck has awesome bones and structure def like it just try to get your creatures at like a 19 count total . but overall its a cool deck. if you wouldn't mind please take a look at my newest deck and see if you have any feedback for me any changers thoughts anything id really be very much appreciate it i also gave ur deck a like to so if you do like my build please like it. just go to my page and its called G/W AGGRO WITH ATHREOS. its not a junk deck its G/W with a twist please let me know what you think. thanks

In my opinion godsend by itself makes even weak creatures very formidable foes, but you on the other hand have already strong creatures like arbor, archangel which will come into game later and benefit less from godsend's power. You have very few creatures too and I am not sure if you can deal with control decks or very very aggressive ones with a lot of small fast creatures. The way I see it if you want to take advantage of godsend you need smaller creatures, preferably with hexproof. Bassara the Tower Archer is great for your built, witchstalker too. they cannot kill you with their spells and when you equip godsend on them they are nearly unbeatable.
I generally feel you need a lot more 2-3 drops if you want to play Godsend that is, otherwise if your main finisher is elspeth... well you dont need godsend. Right now this deck is something like a hybrid between the two. Decide where you want to go (elspeth or godsend) and build accordingly.

For a Godsend built I would suggest:
Remove
-Arbor Colossus, - Archangel of Thune (too slow for the purpose of the deck)
-Primeval Bounty (very expensive and slow, a bit irrelevant in this deck)
- Elspeth? (you could keep her in as an alternative finisher, but taking her out makes your strategy more consistent)

Keep
Courser of Krufix (will helo you stabilize and prevent you from running out of gas), Ajani Mentor of Heroes (good late game addition, will boost your godsend equiped creature to give you lethal damage), Banishing Light (best removal in the format at the moment), Brimaz (makes you more aggresive, good card)
The burn spells (will help you with small creatures, make you aggresive, scry)

Add
+ Bassara the Tower Archer, +Witchstalker (great 2/3 drops , hexproof, good target for Godsend, resistand to control, cheap)
+1 more Godsend (consistency)

Maybe
Boros charm is ok but maybe you need a bit more creatures (I would suggest fleecemane lion)
Sylvan Caryatid is fine but I would suggest Elvish Mystic

Accidentally I saw your reply only a few minutes after the second one. Good ! I am glad you like my advice, your deck is starting to shape now. I believe with playtesting now you will find the small changes it might needs to be optimal. Make small changes each time and test again. I used to play a lot a deck with similar way of thinking like yours, I won a couple of FNMs with that, eventhough I was not based on godsend but auras to achieve the same effect like you. you can look at it to get ideas if you want. Good luck.

With you dropping the overall cmc of the deck you could probably go down to 22 lands and have extra slots for other things.

0

Did try that and I ended up with more mana issues then I cared for. I would never recommend running 22 land in a 3 color deck. Having that 2 extra mana just hits the sweet spot.

It seems like you don't have red for any particular reason, you could make a much stronger deck if you veered towards junk midrange, using similar base cards and adding some much needed removal. Standard doesn't have char, lightning bolt or gut shot right now, splashing for burn seems utterly superfluous, otherwise its a good idea for a deck based around a card that I originally thought to be more about flavour, with the God's End or God Send wordplay. By the way, I would love people to comment which they think it is and why.

I would be tempted to go constellation on this. Replace the piper with Noble Quarry. It still has the must be blocked effect, and triggers constellation. Replace witchstalker with eidolon of blossoms. put in a heliod or two. For vigilance, and to be able to trigger the eidolon of blossoms. You have coursers, and all of your removal will get you some card draw off the eidolon of blossoms as well. Might make it easier to draw your way to your removal more consistently, and find your Godsend quicker.

Goldenhide ox would be another card to consider if you went that route.
