Deck Description

Greetings everyone. This is my first deck ever that I just recently completed. As the name suggest it focuses mostly on Zen vampires and spells reprinted in M11 like Duress, Doom Blade, Sign in Blood etc.

I guess it is what you call a "control" deck since it focuses on removing all opponents creatures and cards while doing damage with Nighthawks, Drana and Boodwitches.

Sideboard is mostly against green and white colours. Feast of blood and corrupt for some heavy damage opponents and Hexmage against those nasty infect decks.

What I believe I could upgrade here still would be getting 2 more Hexmages and deciding on either 4 Guul Draz Vampires or Lacerators instead of having 2 of each. I could probably also think about getting Blade of the Bloodchief or Kalitas, bloodchief of Geth for some spin off play. But for now I'm happy with it as it is and would rather focus on something new with cards from SoM and upcoming Mirrodin Besieged.

I'm tagging it as casual play as I'm still new to this professional terminology and I wouldn't be sure enough to just tag it as control deck. Although a warning from me, the deck wasn't all that cheap.

Deck discussion for Mono-Black Vampire Newbie

Well I like it, I love vamps. If I changed anything I might add URGE TO FEED, and perhaps drop skinrender for PULSE TRACKER, I do think you did a great job on your sideboard, you are ready to take on anything, remember vampires are deadly because they are fast, maybe limit some of those turn 5 drops and put in the quicker stuff, especially with lacerator in there.

A vamp always has vampire nocturnus. I would drop the skinrenders and two malakir bloodwitches to get four of them. Also, Sorin goes in a vamp, not Liliana. Good Luck!!!!

right now this deck is standard, putting in Nocturnus makes it extended, makes no difference to me but it is important if standard was the intent, I totally agree about sorin good call

Thank you both for replies. Yes the purpose of putting Captivating Vampire instead of Nocturnus is because the deck is supposed to fit standard. I was aware of Sorin and was even after him at first but I realized later he's just weaker than Liliana. Only purpose of having Sorin would be against those white decks tat stack life. I have chosen Liliana's discard/tutoring instead.

You should at least sidebord Sorin--because you gain a bunch of life while wiping out creatures, opponents, and other planeswalkers (because they count as players too!). Also, his -3 ability is beast against life gain decks--witch in standard, there are a lot of!

skinrender still needs to go away in favor of a hexmage or something.

Dude, i wanted to know about something, cause i got duress and i am unsure about putting it or not. Is it worth to run duress in those vampires decks?

Thank you in advance.

no (unless you are running discard in the deck too.

I think you should also take out the Duress and 2 Sign in Blood for 4 Urge to Feed and 2 Feast of Blood (don't know if Urge to Feed is standard).

:-)

Also, remember that Drana, Kalastria Bloodchief is legendary--so there might be one or two stuck in your hand forever. I would take out one of them for a Tendrils of Corruption.

Speaking of Tendrils of Corruption, I would also switch it with the Corrupts in your sidebord because in a vamp, you need low costs that are about 3 mana!

You also need to remember that you can only have one Liliana Vess out at a time. I would drop one of them plus the Skinrenders to get 3 Pulse Trackers (they are amazing!).

Thank you for all the suggestions jacklg4. I know I can have only 1 Drana and Liliana in game I found 3 of each an optimal number but indeed I sometimes had them cockblocked in my hand.

In all honesty I heard that nowadays vampires are built around Bloodghast and Kalastria Highborn but I kinda dropped this deck for now and began tinkering on a new one.
