Deck Description

ANY AND ALL IMPROVEMENTS ARE WELCOME

Animar has been my favorite commander and I just want to optimize it to the best of my abilities. I shifted away from the eldrazi build so I want to focus more this version (not saying eldrazi cant be in there i.e Kozilek and Ulamog) My budget is flexible, though not disposable.

This deck aims to flood the board at whatever pace you choose. I found that I could pace with my opponents or just rush ahead in the early game. Saving your colorless and cheap CMC creatures to buff Animar is a must. Bouncing your own creatures also gives you more cast for Animar.

9/9/2020: I have cut half of the original deck and I have put in some more non-budget cards. The mana base is more defined and I am having less trouble getting Animar out on turn 2.

How to Play

Combos to note:

Ancestral Statue bouncing itself makes infinite +1/+1 counters for Animar.
Ancestral Statue + Animar + Walking Ballista = infinite damage
Animar + Painters Servant (Naming Black/White) = Animar has Protection from Everything.

Deck discussion for Animar, Soul of Elements EDH

I love this deck. One thing that might be useful keeping in theme with the creatures is the Melira, Sylok Outcast & Glen Elendra Archmage combo. This allows you to sac Glen Elendra to counter a Noncreature spell and the persist trigger brings her back and with Melira out you can do that as many times as you have mana to do it. I think this would be super useful because creature decks tend to have difficulty with responding to the stack.

Something else you could add with Melira in mind is Woodfall Primus and a sacrifice outlet (Id go with Ashnod's Altar in this case for your deck). This will allow you to destroy permanents in Temur without spells which is crazy in my opinion.

I would also make room for Craterhoof Behemoth, its just an amazing card for a creature deck.

I think that this deck is really cool and when possible you could totally go off with Primal Surge. In my opinion you should drop the Cyclonic rift, add Melira, Glen Elendra, Woodfall, Craterhoof and Ashnod's Altar this would require 4 more cuts(plus Cyc rift) but I think it would be worth it for the Surge to win.

Like I said before, love the deck. Take what you want from my comment but have fun anyways!

Thank you for the input! What would you cut? I'm thinking as a start, cutting Pir and Toothy.

Happy to help!
In my opinion I'd cut the following:
Toothy
Cyc Rift
Pir
Mistuctter Hydra
Lightning Greaves

Why do you think on cutting Lightning Greaves? I was almost thinking Akroma's Memorial due to cost. I just brainstorming!

I have no idea how this deck plays out, but from what I can tell, it looks like Primal Surge, if resolved, should be an instant win. With how the deck could be ordered Craterhoof Behemoth might come out too early for lethal in terms of how many creatures it could haste out. Only reason I didn't say Akroma's was because it hastes everything passively. Looking again I noticed Maelstrom Wanderer which gives your creatures haste. So Akroma's could be cut if you wanted to.
However Akroma's gives pro Red/Black which is where most creature removal comes from. Just a thought.

I understand that [Cyclonic Rift] is good, but it is not a must run. Especially alongside a [Primal Surge]. Do you think you could play a [Venser, Shaper Savant] instead and maybe sneak in a [Deadeye Navigator] to complete the combo? It would be less degenerate and actually more impactful because it's a creature so it triggers Animar. Just a thought. Great deck otherwise!

I agree on Cyclonic Rift, it is a placeholder for Craterhoof Behemoth. I forgot that Venser.

[Craterhoof Behemoth] is a great card to include. I recommend cutting Pir and Toothy and Tishana. Add behemoth, Venser, and maybe the ulamog, ceaseless hunger if price isn’t a concern. Or deadeye navigator.

My budget is flexible, and I already have Ulamog, Ceaseless Hunger. Thank you on your input.
