so fairly recently there's been a few important cards that were just made to fit into a pestilence deck. this old archetype is still a strong deck today, so i dread to think how good it'll be with a few new cards. my explanations for the more unusual cards are like so: great sable stag/swans of BA: these two are the cornerstone of this deck. the stags are simply perfect for pestilence, and the swans lets you draw a million cards from pestilence. the only trouble is managing the mana to play them both without losing out on your black mana. i think i managed it quite well. death's shadow: from experience, pestilence decks tend to play their life totals quite close to the wire. this card simply takes advantage of that fact by turning a low life total into a massive threat. it's never let me down so far. sprouting phytohydra: every time you use pestilence with this in play, your number of blockers almost doubles. it's a great mechanic and useful if you're (somehow) on the back foot or get frazzled by a day of judgement. exploration: the one thing this deck needs is a little help getting those lands down. it has no trouble drawing new lands from the swans, so playing them is important. more lands means more pestilence. pacifism: just for those rare 10/10 fatties that you can't get with pestilence due to mana constraints. congregate: more life = more pestilence. also works as a nice double edged sword if your opponent gets out a few too many creatures for your liking. safe passage: best card in the deck. i'm not even joking. stops pestilence from hurting you for a turn, stops a huge spell, burn, a larg attack from your opponent. whatever. it's completely multipurpose.
