Deck Description

Counter, Burn, Win.

How to Play

Start off by getting that mana going, and countering any threat you see coming. Against a control deck, start getting that card advantage with think twice (sub from sideboard). Play your guttersnipe, then start smashing your opponent. You can redirect a Mana Leak, countering their spell and dealing two damage to them. You can then play that Talrand, Sky Summoner. After he's out, things get fun. Play a Pillar of Flame against those annoying Golgari creatures, copying it with Increasing Vengeance, killing two creatures and dealing 4. Or did you play a Cackling Counterpart on turn 3, and get 4 damage out of every instant you play. If only the deck was for another format, i would play a lightning bolt, doing 7 damage for 1 cost, when two guttersnipes are out.

Sideboard allows extra card advantage, counter-heal and counter-tokens.
Think twice grants card advantage. Jace, Architect of Thought allows you to handle early aggro decks so you can get out your 2/2's and keep them on the board, while giving you card advantage with his (-2). Ghost Quarter is essential for destroying key lands such as dual lands or search lands, imagine destroying a search land in a deck that relies on Bloodghast or Lotus Cobra. Counterflux is for weenie, low cost decks such as Steppe Lynx, Delver (UBR), or even tokens. I added Mizzium Mortars into sideboard because often killing a 4/4 Loxodon Smiter is better than having the opportunity to hit 3 for lifepoints. Generally you won't be finishing off your opponent with a searing spear, you will be aiming it at creatures.
