Deck discussion for Assault Formation

Ok this deck is spread pretty thin, with four colors and all the different play styles.

I really like the idea of Assault Formation in standard. I think you have a handful of options here:
-Focus on Assault Formation and Skimmy, the base deck would be Black/Green (I've got a ton of ideas for this), possibly splashing blue or white
-Make a four-color deck, find some fast dual lands, trim it up to where it may work better
-Revert back to the old White/Black deck and focus on Skimmy, tokens, and life-drain

Yes, black green splash blue.

I can't exactly focus on White/Black without getting beat down hard. There were a lot of spells that target all creatures with -2/-2 spells, so at that point it was just a farce with my archer and the rat.

If I wanted White/Black to flourish, I'd put in those allies I had earlier, and then run more captain's claws.

BLUE/GREEN/BLACK:
Splash blue because counterspells and tide-drifter
Use Captain's claws to get those Allies out
Have Westvale Abbey as a backup (no one has destroy lands so I'm ok here)
Sac those Allies when I can with West and flip.

Assault formation tied to:
Mostly Skimmy and Drifty
I added smol guy with lifelink so I can get that +3 life every hit.

ALSO:
Assault Formation + Behind the scenes:
I don't have to focus on getting their power up, which is great with Skulk because the power still works, correct?

What I am worried with BLUE/GREEN/BLACK:
Not a whole lot of removal spells, just counterspells, which is cool.

Always Watching:
I kept in there so my creatures have vigilance, in case I needed the block. I could throw it out completely
because I did want to just get it down to 3 colors, but am looking for something will vigil, if not that's cool too.

If I stick BLUE/GREEN/BLACK:
Use Nissa's Pilgrimage instead of completely relying on those sword's of animist to ramp and grab land that I need.

I don't really want to run all four colors UNLESS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY. Which it prob isnt so im coo

So I'd take out the equipment and nissa's pilgrimage and focus on dealing damage by the creatures you cast.. We scale abbey is a good backup but it would go so much better in a white deck.

The diminator drone seems to be sticking in there, he seems a bit out of place after all these changes.

What might end up happening is this deck will shift to Blue/Green with a splash of black haha

Dominator drone is in there because of the amount of color creatures I have.

I'll keep the sword of animist. But the deck isn't switching the blue/green.

I would highly recommend Benithic Infiltrator and Void Grafter, ik theyre both blue but theyre bothe really good with Tide Drifter and Assault Formation.
Even though their toughness is four, you could run stuff to fight people using Languish and Grasp of Darkness.

There's a really good sorcery that can fight alot of removal and tough creatures too, Transgress the Mind. It'll get rid of people's 3-drop counterspells, removal spells and most 3-4-5 drop bombs. And there's alot right now. Also it lets you plan around their hand and if you cast it turn two you can stop whatever they plan to do turn three!

So I thought you had a lot of ideas for black green not blue black lol.

And if I put those in there I have to take something out. And that would be...?

take out pick the brain, you don't need to run 4 Transgress the minds

You could probably make room by taking out one Behind the Scenes.

Also, Riunous path and Grasp of darkness both have double black in them, which worries me. More dual lands would fix this, but sometimes all you need is to -4/-4 something to kill it. Sideboard one?

I'm keeping 3 behind the scenes because of skulk. It's just nice to make sure that my creatures won't be blocked.

ok.

I see people run Transgress the Mind in their main board with more in the sideboard to cut down their enemy's tempo

Also, I'm wondering if there's a better ramp card than Nissa's Pilgrimage, since it only grabs forests

I feel dumb, I totally forgot about the equipment!

There's new cards like Transverse the Ulvenwald and Fork in the Road that migh be faster than Nissa's, just for getting the right colors in your hand.

Yeah thas good. Instant-speed stuff is good. The two I mentioned above are playable purely bc you can play them early before you need to from the 4 and 3 cost creatures

I see you found the Tree of Perdition combo.

As I keep looking at this deck build, I can't help but wonder at the other possibilities behind it. I love Assault Formation and wish it was used more in standard. I keep thinking "what if this was pure eldrazi" or "how could I run it if i just did the strongest toughness creatures". That sort of thing.

The unfortunate thing is, although I would love just putting the highest toughness creatures in this deck, Assault Formation is from the Dragons Set, so it'll be banned after this coming week.

I do want to throw in more eldrazi, but I think I'll have to do that after the next set comes out and work with it that way.

I almost want to just throw in Conduit of Ruin and Bane of Bala just to shake things up but then my deck won't be linear and will cry.

Actually, Dragons and Origins stays in until Kaladesh enters rotation, so you'd be able to play this deck until September. Another two months :p don't know if that's worth it
