Deck Description

Move your deck to your grave and proceed to smash with big creatures.

Ghoultree was what really got me to make the deck- very reasonably costed, high p/t, and no downside? Sign me up!

~$5 in the *red* box.

How to Play

Phase one:
Pitch as many of your cards in to your graveyard as you can.
-This can be done with Mask of Memory, Llanowar Mentor, Splinterfright, Mulch, and Golgari Brownscale.
-One of my favorite synergies is with an opening hand including Llanowar Mentor, Golgari Brownscale, and a Forest. On turn one, play the forest and then mentor. On turn two, during your upkeep, you can use the mentor's ability to pitch the brownscale for a Llanowar Elves and then dredge the Brownscale back. Repeat every turn for ramp, chump, mill, and life!

Phase two:
Build your board state and defend yourself with combat tricks.
-Do this using Ambush Viper, Boneyard Wurm, Splinterfright, and Wasteland Viper.
-The Vipers are best used as combat tricks, but can also be discarded using Mentor earlier on. Splinterfright works best along with a Spider Umbra or the Mask- Trample really helps you connect.

Phase three:
Close the game.
-Use Ghoultree, Kessig Cagebreakers, Splinterfright, and Baru, Fist of Krosa.
-Not much to say here.

Naturalizes take care of most graveyard hate, so bring them in when needed.

Deck discussion for Budget: Greenyard Games

I like graveyard decks :p black green are my favorite so i have a lil soft spot for them. The only thing id add if i were you would me maybe harmonize for some card draw? Or Rancor i believe is a must with your ghoultree's etc:p +1

Thanks for the like! I was considering a whole variety of card draw, and decided against Harmonize because of its cmc. What do you think about Triumph of Ferocity or Keen Sense? I do recognize that my deck really could use some card draw, but am stuck on low cmc options.

Yeah i understand i would add rancor still even though its not as cheap as you'd like you need some trample in my opinion.

Brawn would work for trample... except it's only Legacy :(
You can run more than 60 cards, since you have draw and dredge so much, having more than 60 cards shouldn't be a big problem...

I definitely agree that I need some trample- Rancor is a bit pricey, but I'll add it to the sideboard for consideration.

Champion of Lambholt? It combos well Llanowar Mentor and Kessig Cagebreakers to stop your opponent from blocking allowing for a faster victory

It's a good card, but I find myself discarding Kessig Cagebreakers more than I do casting it. Even then, Kessig usually swings for lethal in a turn or two when otherwise unaided. Champ is a good card, but I don't think that it's the best for this specific build. Thanks for the feedback!

How about commune of the gods for more milling?

Sounds like a good card for this deck- what do you recommend I switch our for it?

I'm not sure if Snake Umbra fits the theme of the deck so maybe that.

Why not run a few Blossoming Wreath? (if you're not running modern)
Gnaw to bone if you're running modern
Wreath of geists would fit in the deck as well.

Congrats on another nice deck! ;)

Wreath of Geists is an awesome card here- But what should I switch for it? I'm not sure that I want to commit to too many more non-creature cards.

Why not just add it in?
Sure, you'll have more than 60 cards, but with all the dredge action going on, that shouldn't be a problem.

Maybe Irresistible Prey to put on your deathtouch creatures and draw?

Sure, I'll put it in the sideboard.

Nice deck! I like it!
What about the new Commune with the gods?
It would work well with Wreath of Geist as well.

Can you help me with my deck? Thank you!

Thanks for the suggestion- I haven't updated this deck, but Commune with the Gods is good, as well as the newer Satyr Wayfinder.

I'll take a look at your deck!
