Deck Description

This deck is built around the Mentor of the Meek's ability: whenever another creature with power 2 or less enters the battlefield under your control, you may pay {1}. If you do, draw a card. Meaning on turn four, if I play my fourth land, I can play two 1 CMC creatures and also draw two cards which gives me card advantage over my opponent.

Please see the "how to play" section for the nuances of the deck.

How to Play

I try and get Mentor of the Meek out on turn three so I can start drawing cards the next turn.

Mentor and Brimaz, King of Oreskos work well together because when Brimaz attacks or blocks, a 1/1 creatures comes into play attacking or defending and that triggers the Mentor's ability, meaning, I can draw a card for one mana every time Brimaz attacks or blocks.

I use Thalia's Lieutenant and Venerated Loxodon to provide +1/+1 counters to my creatures, which makes them stronger and more durable for the mid to late game. I like the fact that their pumping abilities do no interfere with the Mentor's ability because they pump creatures that are already on the battlefield, whereas the Mentor's effect triggers when creatures enter the battlefield.

My Knight of The White Orchard helps me find more plains, which I use to fuel the Mentor's draw triggers.

I use Dauntless bodyguard as a shield for my Mentor to prevent him from dying to burn and removal spells, plus it is a 2/1 creature that triggers the Mentor's draw effect.

I use Giant Killer as a removal spell against creatures of 4 or more power and I then play it as a 1/2 creature to trigger the Mentor's draw effect.

I use Kytheon, Hero of Akros because he turns into a planeswalker when he attacks with two other creatures and he also triggers the Mentor's draw effect.

I use Mardu Woe-Reaper to exile Arclight Phoenix from my opponent's graveyard and it triggers the Mentor's ability.

I use Thraben Inspector as another form of draw when my Mentor is not out on the battlefield and it also triggers the Mentor's ability.

Finally, I use brave the elements as a defensive spell against removal spells like anger of the gods (deals 3 damage to each creature) by giving my creatures protection from red. I also use it as an offensive spell by preventing my opponent's creatures from blocking my attacking creatures.
