Question:If leonin arbiter is in play, and someone playing millActivates field of ruin to force you into a search,And you opt not to pay, what happens?Does this still force archive trap through, or have you become immune?

Preamble: Field of Ruin: Destroy target nonbasic land an opponent controls. Each player searches their library for a basic land card, puts it onto the battlefield, then shuffles their library.Leonin Arbiter: Players can't search libraries. Any player may pay {2} for that player to ignore this effect until end of turn.Archive Trap: If an opponent searches their library this turn, you may pay 0 rather than pay this spell's mana cost.Target opponent mills thirteen cards. You are playing death and taxes.Your opponent is playing mill.Answer: When your opponent field of ruin's search ability triggers and leonin is on the field, if you opt not to pay to search, the search trigger fizzles and, since you have not searched your deck, you opponent cannot play "archive trap" for free."Leonin Arbiter prevents all searching of libraries unless the player who would do the searching can pay 2" (https://magicjudge.tumblr.com/post/163695423800/does-leonin-arbiter-stop-my-opponent-from)
A rules link :) that's always good in a rules question.Like I told supermegapanda I was scared it was a layers problem where the last opposing effect is the one counting. Luke playing an enchantment that say all creatures lose flying, then playing an enchantment that says all creatures gain flying.I've played mill so many years, and actually never been in this situation. I guess d&t had a break at that period ;)I'm designing a deck to train my mill upon, and it already had leonin arbiter as a way to disrupt the mana. It's nice to know it also locks down archive trap, at the cost of a land.
Ah, I see, i reviewed your "I still know my mill" deck and realized you were asking this as a mill player and not a D&T player. So yes, leonine arbiter foils your plan, just like foils cracking a fetch, that is, i like to aether vial an arbiter into play in response to my opponent cracking their fetchland and, if they don't have the two mana needed to search their deck, it fizzles and they don't get their land.
I wouldn't call it a revive :) there are still the same problems involved, but I've gotten more info on the topics.I still rage against visions of beyond. The better reason is that I'm working on the deck called Upgrading this deckI built it to defeat mill so I can defeat what beats mill ;)So I have to be a little like a d&t playerI'm trying to find room for both phyrexian revoker and æther vial
Since death and taxes is adopting cleansing wildfire, there's a chance that they'll adopt geomancers gambit as well, and from that point of view, ajani, vengeant starts to be attractive as well.Do you think taxes will move in that direction ?Adding red to the deck will mean a colossal amount of innovations as there are plenty of red cards that will allow for a furthering of hating the opponents manabase, like pillage.Thalia has been the longterm weapon of choice against storm, but could be joined by eidolon of the great revel. There will be lots of ideas to steal from boros designs.
