This is a version of an Ensoul Artifact deck I used to run back when Ensoul was still legal in standard. What's nice about this one is that with the addition of the Spellbombs, you can still pay for their abilities when you sac them as additional cost to cast Shrapnel Blast. Trying to make it more competitive to play in Modern/Legacy. Any and all comments and suggestions are appreciated. Thanks! :D
Best case scenario: Turn 1, drop an Ornithopter, a land, and a Traveler's Amulet or Panic Spellbomb. Turn 2, drop land, Ensoul the Ornithopter (which becomes a 5/5 flyer), combat for 5. Turn 3, drop land, cast Shrapnel Blast for 1R, sac the Traveler's Amulet or Panic Spellbomb for the additional cost of the Shrapnel Blast, swing with Ensouled Ornithopter for another 5, end turn having done 10 dmg. Turn 4, hopefully you dropped another Ornithopter or a Darksteel Citadel on turn 2/3, Ensoul it, swing for lethal.

You know you can not double sacrifice a permanent due to a cost and to its ability? From the rules:117.10. Each payment of a cost applies to only one spell, ability, or effect. For example, a player can't sacrifice just one creature to activate the activated abilities of two permanents that each require sacrificing a creature as a cost. Also, the resolution of a spell or ability doesn't pay another spell or ability's cost, even if part of its effect is doing the same thing the other cost asks for.

Thank you for clarifying that, I didn't realize.
And yes, I know this is different for Panic Spellbomb because it says "When Panic Spellbomb is put into a graveyard from the battlefield, you may pay {R}. If you do, draw a card" but thats the only option you have. Both Traveler's Amulet and Æther Spellbomb require explicitely to be self sacrificed to activate the abilties
Hmmm... interesting. The only other cheap artifact I can find that has an enters the graveyard ability is Implement of Ferocity. I considered putting Tormod's Crypt in this deck at one point strictly for the 0 cost.
After searching a bit more for Artifacts with enters the graveyard triggers I found Chromatic Star, Flight Spellbomb, Implement of Combustion, Terrarion, and a host of others that could work well... Thanks for poking a hole in my current plan and forcing me to find other options!
Copy Enchantment could be an option, costs one mana more to play than Ensoul Artifact but allows you to use it as Ensoul Artifact 5-8. The "problem" I see here is that you rely 100% on Ornithopter to attack, the only other backup plan would be drawing 3-4 Shrapnel Blast. I would remove the defenders to add something like Signal Pest, Hope of Ghirapur or even something like Glaze Fiend (which would need at least some black mana-sources)GreetingsMuktol
I like the Copy Enchantment idea, because it allow me to have 8 Ensoul Artifact. Great suggestion! Something like Hero of Iroas could also reduce the cost of Copy Enchantment back to the original cost of Ensoul. I also Ensoul Darksteel Citadel as well. Also the combination of Pressure Point and Refocus can be huge as it can net 1 or 2 more cards you need, stall a threat, and/or untap a blocker. Thanks for the suggestions! Cheers!
You could use Inaction Injunction instead of Pressure Point. It basically does the same tough it doesn't prevent your opponent from using the creature for things like Springleaf Drum. Slip Through Space could be an interesting option for the sideboard. Another option would be Echoing Truth wich work like a charm against swarming decks and everything that utilizes tokens.
I love Slip Through Space, especially in conjunction with Expedite. As an Izzet player, when those two cards came out together I was very pleased. Inaction Injunction is always a card I forget about... only 'cause I only have 1 in my collection, but it's a great option over Pressure Point, though it changes my colors a bit. Once again, thanks! :D
