Deck Description

An idea I am tossing around. Let me know what you think about it.

I have land in the sideboard I would put in it if I had the money but trying to keep it less than $50

**Update: I have gotten most of the cards for the deck. And I am looking at running it in FNM. The sideboard is still in flux with suggestions and ideas.

How to Play

Ramp into mana and allow Mistcutter or Savageborn to start out strong.
Or play them early and get Kalonian out to boost them up.
Give trample to Savageborn for tons of damage.
Bow to keep down opponent.

Deck discussion for Gruul Hydras

Another fun Hydra would be the Vastwood Hydra. What you do with your Vastwood Hydra is let it commit suicide and transfer all its +1/+1 counters to, say, your Savageborn. Now you've got, like, a 40/40 with double strike and then give it trample and another +1/+1 counter during each upkeep with a little card I like to call the Ring of Kalonia.

Other than that, not too shabby!

Another fun mana-ramp card is Gyre Sage.

I had not actually heard of Ring Of Kalonia, but I am trying to keep the deck standard. Thanks for the suggestion.

Would the Gyre Sage really be helpful you think? I would have to get him out early, and then cast something without it being countered before it could even start generating mana.

The Vastwood Hydra may come in handy. It would add 2 devotion to green for each one. However, is it worth it? Essentially the same cost as Savageborn but without doublestrike or any way to add counters later on. If I were to consider adding Vastwood, what would you recommend removing?

Well, to begin, the Gyre Sage MUST be given Forced Adaptation. It'll amass another +1/+1 counter each Upkeep. That's one more mana. Then throw down a land. Two more mana.
