I do like Render Silent, but Silence really isn't that game impacting in my opinion. Unless you have something like a Tamiyo ult where you can keep casting it. Render Silent is also a counter spell which can be even better with infinites of.
I was going for more of a damage win with this deck, mill is getting sideboarded against sometimes. Played a game with my UW control deck that i had to mill like 20 times.
Losing a creature in response without being able to do anything might be a bigger difference in losing and winning a game. And as for the casual deck comment, he asked for tips to make the deck better. Look at any UG aggro deck that runs unblockable. Tell me if you see phytoburst in there. There is a reason people don't run these cards.
How long does it take to mill 33 cards though? That's on like turn 5 or 6, or should be. That's around when you want to draw cards. But you might like Brainstorm.
One, it isn't aggro enough to beat RG or Naya aggro in a race. Or it's bant hexproof half-brother.Two, we're talking about the difference in titanic growth and phytoburst, not giant growth. Which is giving up 1 damage for the restriction that it can only be played during your own main phases.Three, giant growth might actually fit better working with only 20 lands. 1 colorless more for 1 damage is kind of stupid, and is the reason that titanic growth only saw play with infect and why phytoburst is considered a semi-unplayable card. Not even playable in draft or sealed for the most part.
Just went 2-1 vs RB zombies, which surprisingly went better than i thought. Pillar of flame did work. But i did use 2 essence scatter's in the set, once was where syncopate with my 2 mana i had up wouldn't have done anything. Will still consider it after further testing. :]
Until they shock your unblockable creature and you can't pump in response. Or you're on your back foot and can't pump on a block to get value. There is no reason.
This deck looks really fun to play, but a few things i'd replace.1. Death Wind - This card seems very under-powered. It makes you tap a lot of mana to do not-so-much. You don't want to pay 5 to kill a Loxodon Smiter. Or have them buff a guy in response to you casting this. I'd replace this with Doom Blade.2. Merciless Eviction - As a midrange deck, sweepers are both a good and a bad thing for and against you. A lot of the time in the current meta, you'll want to be the aggressor. And having a card that kills all of your things just seems bad. A one-sided board wipe is the strongest thing Jund and UWR mid-range have going for them as far as this goes. But with BW or GB mid-range, there is an alternative. You have both desecration demon and obzedat, both great creatures in this deck for Mutilate! I'd replace it with that.3. Crypt Ghast/Debt to the Deathless - This combo is very nice, but requires you to bring the game to late-game. In place of these, i'd add more threats. 2 Desecration Demons isn't enough. I'd put 4 of them in. As well as a whole slew of great drops. Restoration angel/Shadowborn demon is a nice combo. And Shadowborn is great with tokens. Also, Disciple of Bolas is an amazing card draw engine with Desecration Demon and Shadowborn.Hope i helped :]
I had Syncopate originally, but figured that it isn't as great late-game. And i have removal for what it would be better than Essence Scatter. I'll playtest with both and change it with my results.
http://www.mtgvault.com/pandabair/decks/4c-control-2/Hey man, back again. :] You can check my page for a few new decks that i've made. Was just feeling bad because of all the terribad decks on the front page, and wanted to drop this off to hopefully get it there. The UW deck is probably more consistent, if you check that out.
Because Phytoburst is a sorcery. And it is terrible.
This deck needs 3 things in my opinion.1. Progenitor Mimic - This should replace the Sphinx, as the sphinx is a very low impact card for how much it costs. It works well with both Thragtusk and the Primordial. As well as the Acidic Slime in your sideboard (which i think you may want to put a couple of those in the maindeck) A string of Thragtusks is VERY hard to stop unless actually killing it, bringing me to my next suggestion.2. More protection - You have very few bombs after you get through and drop them, where you really can't afford to lose a huge guy while you have little to no cards left in hand. Counterspells, bounces, etc. Cyclonic rift is good at bouncing, but only targets your opponents creatures.3. More card draw - Opportunity has become a staple for decks that need mid to late game card draw, but aren't running white (for sphinx's revelation). This card basically gives you a pseudo one, at instant speed, minus the life-gain (Blue sun's Zenith x=3). Also think twice. This will clear up both missed land drops and re-fill your hand after you have your bombs out, as well as letting you leave mana open to counter and protect your bomb during your opponents and your turn. Whereas Urban Evolution lets you also drop an extra land, it is a sorcery. Also, as a little tip. Not sure if you're looking to budget this up, but ramp decks have the option to use a versitile armory of bombs. Sticking to only 3 possibilities is not always the smart thing to do. Look at some of the options for 6+ drops in your colors, and depending on the/your competitive/FNM meta or wherever you play, tune it to work against them better.
Serum Visions is good, also if you're running a mill deck, visions of beyond is very good.
This is a pauper deck, so i cannot use Admonition Angel. :s But i thought boros garrison was an uncommon. Thank you :]
Ohhh forgot about that. Slight of Hand or Ponder then :]
No problem :] I was confused when i first read what you posted because i was like "Yeah that sounds solid.. but most of that isn't standard.3 cards giving slight card advantage may be Slight of Hand or Ponder effects. Preordain is really good as well.If you're running UB, there are much better cards. But you don't want to splash black for thoughtsieze and take away from your goal in all entirety.
This is standard :]
http://www.mtgvault.com/pandabair/decks/uw-control-3/UW control [standard] :] mostly survives post cycle
The point of this was to keep the Infect as a win condition that slowly chipped away to keep the control aspect up. I was considering putting in ethereal armor since it runs so many enchantments.I playtest and build decks for friends mostly, a lot of these decks i don't have money to build. I mostly build standard brews or competitive lists. Lately my friends have been getting into pauper, so i've been building into there more often.
