Uses Etched champion and Pentavus, combined with Tezzeret, to beat an opponent's life total down quickly. A Throne of Geth will be pumping all creatures in tandem with Steel Overseer, which gets deadly with pentavus. Some counterspells to ease the journey and a few draws to get to those hitters faster. I'm a fan of discarding a high mana cost artifact such as Pentavus or Triskelion and bringing it onto the field with Argivinian Restoration; Chrono-boosting, if you like. :D Sideboard contains Master of Etherium in case my opponent is mainly a colourless deck, and Basilisk Collar just in case my opponent's brutes are too big for Triskelion to gun down. Against a fast deck spell pierce and Etherium Sculptor should speed me up while slowing them down long enough for me to get some pumping going. Thoughts? In particular, reducing budget. I only have 1 of each rare in this deck at this point, and no etched champions, so any suggestions in that regard would be welcome.

I have been trying to make a deck with the Tezz-Elspeth decks aswell. Some pointers might be getting a few voltaic keys. They works nice with Everflowing Chalice and if you have Rings of Brighthearth you get an infinite mana combo. The problem of the Tezz deck was that it is very slow. I think it might even be a bit slower now, and against any rush deck those steel walls save your life. A tumble magnet is another cheap option to slow the opponent down. Tezz gambit is a good card if you want to proliferate. Master Transmuter is nice aswell to get Triskelion out quickly. Same as the Sculptor. You might want to add some mana sources. I have been play testing variations of the Tezz deck for a month now. Mainly against mono-black suicide and green ramp decks and the deck starts up a turn or two too slow still. This is my current variation: http://www.mtgvault.com/EditDeck.aspx?DeckID=204897

The deck evolved in a way out of Tezz's deck, yes, but it's changed a lot in focus from... not much focus to a focus on counters. Voltiac Key has apparently gone down in price, so I'll look at putting it in. Recently I've been really thinking about ways to use Tezz's second power, since I nearly always end up just untapping two artifacts (normally overseers) for greater win. Is Ring of Brighthearth standard? Did some playtesting against a friend's cawblade today; managed to pull a win at the last moment with a nova-triskelion. Essentially the brute force ramping of this deck is what kept it in the game; only just; I'm going to tinker with some Trinket Mages and other fetches for some utility artifacts, then look into shifting Tezzeret's focus from untapping (leaving that to Voltiac Key) to fetching and swarm crushing. Oh, and I think we can both agree that Elspeth's deck was the stronger of the two. ;)
At this moment I am using a static orb/unwinding clock combo whith Voltaic key and mana vault. With gigadrowse and tumble magnet even rush decks get in a lockdown around turn 3-4. Master of Etherium deals about 8 damage by then with the Voltaic keys. You can use Tezz second ability to fetch mana I believe (I always use it for Voltaic key or Static orb) Fabricate is a must with any combo deck. I played around a bit with thirst for knowledge in turn 3 on Pentavus and aggrivian restoration in turn 4. Voltaic key combo's really nicely with Mana vault (with 2x Voltaic key it is 7 mana) Yeah Elspeth's deck was way better. Also a lot of fun to play and make a soldier deck of.
Oh, and to keep the budget low try to get the duel deck a few more times, should be less then tyring to buy the rares single (the deck is 20 euro here, and the singles around 4-5 euro's) And Etherium sculptors are a common so easy to trade and bound to be cheap to get by.
That's a really good idea; I think I might end up buying it again. (My local source of singles, the only one I have access to, effectively would cost me about 30 something AUS, whereas the deck will only cost me 40, and that includes Elspeth, Angel of Salvation, etc) I'd still need to get additional Seats of the Synod and Darksteel Citadels. I don't think you can fetch chalices with Tezzeret, as you lose the kicker; and even if you do I don't really think it matters. I'm tempted to start making him a toolbox... Yeah, I pulled the Argivinian restoration trick off as well. You also are forced to discard at the end of your turn if you've got >7 cards so getting rid of Pentavus, etc, isn't too hard. Did another test with this today; finished my opponent on turn 7 with 5 13/13 pentavites. With this deck, if you can get out 2 steel overseers + a throne of geth and tezzeret, the creatures just get incredibly powerful.
I think you can use Tezz's second ability to fetch Seat of Synod and Darksteel Citadel. That combo with pentavites and throne of geth could work very well. I like it a lot better then contagion clasp. With voltaic key you could proliferate 4-5 times each turn. Would cost you some pentavites but still. How do you get Pentavus out normally? Almost always he gets a doomblade when he gets out and to wait two turns to have the mana for counterspell would be slow.
Oh, yeah; I normally have chalices up and running by the time I get him out, so I wait until they either have no mana or I have 2 blue, 2 colorless ready for a counter spell. The colorless is so we can scram if something gets past my counterspells. I also draw out those kinds of things quickly. I mean, you can hit the 15/15 arcbound worker who's killing one of your guys a turn, or you can hit the newly arrived pentavus, that sort of thing.
