I found this old Decklist between my very old Cards. I took the list and after some seconds i've recognized immediately the Deck. My absolute first Deck. After this, i began to ask myself "When and where i've had bought my first Cardpack"It was in 1998 in a simple shop for Fantasy stuff like D&D etc. I was 11 years old and a good schoolfriend of mine (unfortunately he is no longer with us) had an oncle who played this game. After some explanations from him i've decided to give it a try and bought two Urza's Saga Packs (75 Card). My first rares i will never forget: 1.Serra Avatar, 2.Child of Gaea and 3.Antagonism. My absolute Fav was Serra Avatar and i decided to build a deck with him. Naturaly i had no idea about the rules and no knowledge of the other existing cards. So it took me over a year to build this deck (No Internet access, no youtube, no MTGVault, etc.). It was hard work to get all the Cards like Cataclysm, Paladin en Vec, tithe and a second Avatar. But all the effort was definitely worth it. I had so much fun to play this deck against my friends. Good old times...
At this time, the most in my playgroup played with mono red, mono black and mono green elf ramp decks. So i tried to play many small creatures like Zealot, mother or warden to fill the board an to pump them up with crusade and the soltari champions for early pressure. With Spirit Link, congregate and the Warden i pumped my life points to get a heavy hitter Avatar. In the best case i had in the late game an Avatar with a Mother of runes as support. To slow down the ramp against mono green, i used the swords to plowshares to remove the lanowars and the priests of titania from the board. I tried to save the humbles for the big boys like Verdant Force, Force of nature, Child of Gaea, etc. If necessary i used a Spirit Link against enemy creatures. As mass removal i picked the Cataclysm. At this time i prefered a Wrath of God, but in the 6th edition boosters i had no luck and no one had one to trade...But the Cataclysm did a fine job. For the sideboard i had the two Soltari creatures with protection, disenchant and the aura against artifact action and warmth against red.

Thank you for posting your story, it's nice to have such a personal experience shared by a veteran player. (I only started in 2014 when I was 14, this would've been hard for 11-year-old-me to learn.) Reading this made my day.

I also really like this deck and the story behind it.I suggest you mark it with the decktag: nostalgiaI've marked some of my own stuff with the same decktag whenever I was in a mood to think about my own past in magic. If more people used the tag to describe part of their past with magic, we will sort of end up with a "tome of life".
I'll go ahead and put that on one in particular right now.
Only the first 4 tags are visible, but with my amazing powers of observation, I conclude it's the roku one.It will pop up if anyone searches for nostalgia, but noone can see it otherwise. It will need to be one of the first 4 tags if you want to support it :)I suggest you put one of the evergreens in the back.Ah, and just saw this post get the tag ,so good morning.
