Deck discussion for Esper Extort/Cipher

Why would you run TOrmented Soul over Invisible Stalker? seems bad.

Also, Pontiff of Blight is TERRIBLE. its like a retarded Sublime Archangel whos ability doesnt stack, making it more expensive than its worth.

Actually, I believe it does. There are better extort cards though.

yeah. it must be great....thats why its a 39 cent rare, right?
there isnt enough mana ramp, or mana for that matter, in this deck to make a 6 drop with additional mana cost abilities a viable option against ANYTHING in standard currently. Playing Pontiff of Blight is playing bad Magic

It all depends on how it it used. And yes, I agree about the land/mana ramp in this deck. I don't think it's bad magic, it's just not appropriate for this deck.

its not apropriate for any deck. its a 2/7 for 6 mana with a very weak ability. it REALLY wants to be Sublime Archangel, but it just cant be. its not good. the ONLY place I could see it being DECENT is as a target for reanimation, and even then, I would rather run 15 better creatures for that role. disliking my comments doesnt make it a better card. Dont be mad at me for telling the truth lol.

To be CLEAR: I dont think this is a bad DECK. I think the deck needs to run 4 Invisible Stalkers and 0 Pontiff of Blight. also, if you run Invisible Stalker, you can drop Artful Dodge, opening up 4 cardslots for Aetherize, to wipe their attackers out and your weaker creatures dont have to block

seriously, try this:
-2 Pontiff of Blight
-4 Artful Dodge
-4 Tormented Soul
-2 Thrull Parasite

+4 Invisible Stalker
+4 Aetherize
+2 Rootborn Defenses
+2 Blind Obedience

look at how much work went into that deck on that link to make a halfway decent FNM deck....If Im paying 6 mana for something, it better be good on its own, and not require another 4 drop to be good. Crypt Ghast makes a lot of things good, because CRYPT GHAST IS GOOD, not because Pontiff is good.

Tithe Drinker and Crypt Ghast have extort and while week, Realmwright helps with mana fixing.

taking a bad 6 drop helps with mana fixing. you dont need a ton of mana to run this deck without that mana hog.
I do like Tithe Drinker better than Thrull Parasite though...Lifelink is a thing.

looks better, but im telling you, it will run so much smoother if you have a couple ways to keep your board safe.
drop the Tormented soul and 2 Thrull Parasites to add 2 Rootborn defenses(to play in response to Mizzium Morters or Supreme Verdict) and 4 Aetherize (to keep your extort triggers from having to block fatties by just sending them back to the opponents hand)
