Deck Description

My take on Boros for Standard with new AVR cards.

Champion + Silverblade can be deadly with Gather the Townsfolk and Thatcher Revolt.

Hellrider is an alternative win condition.

Kessig Malcontents can be a game changer since this deck is mostly humans except for Hellrider.

Best case:

Turn 1: Champion of the Parish
Turn 2: Gather the Townsfolk (Possible 3 dmg)
Turn 3: Thatcher Revolt (Possible 11 dmg)
Turn 4: Silverblade or Hellrider (Possible 16 or 15 dmg)

Would love some comments or suggestions.

Deck discussion for R/W Human Hellrider Agro (Standard AVR)

I like the mix that you have. I made essentially the same deck with some slight variations. For example, I use Kruin Striker as my 2 drop creature instead of Stormblood. And I use Hero of Bladeholds instead of Hellrider. That being said, I do like the instant speed damage of Hellrider.

As a starter for a suggestion, I would say add two Cavern of Souls. As most of your creatures are humans, the ability to prevent counterspells to your human creatures is pretty valuable.

Here's my deck list - http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=329946. Perhaps we can combine forces and make a really solid build.

I think I will add two Caverns. The one thing I hate the most when playing magic is to get a really good starting hand with the wrong starting mana and Cavern should fix that. Also allowing my creatures to resolved is an excellent bonus.

Got to love how everyone's making one of these... might as well add my own to the list of links flying around in the comments.

You said you're not sure about Stormblood Berserker. I'd say cut him from the deck outright. He has terrible anti-synergy with your premiere 1-drop in Champion of the Parish, and having tested my build quite extensively, I can say with clear conscience that Berserker just does not work. You sacrifice either damage output on turn 2 from Champion, who is really your surprising hulk, especially with Thatcher Revolt printed, or you sacrifice Bloodthirst just to get a body for a pump.

100% not worth the slot.

The rest of the deck looks fine. Personally, and this is pulling from my build a bit, I prefer Mirran Crusader's 40% color protection as the edge over the Paladin, and there are some fun tricks to be had with Blade Splicer, if you can find a spot.

I think you just confirmed my doubts about Stormblood. I've been generating some random hands and there were only a few cases where I found Stormblood playable on turn 2. Most of the time I just can't get damage across to trigger Bloodthrist without screwing up my setup just to get a 3/3. Instead I have replaced the Berserker with Nearheath Pilgrim. For 2 mana you can pump Champion and give it Lifelink. If not removed, a 5/5 Lifelink Champion or 3/3 Double Strike Lifelink Champion on turn 3 is very possible.

I have considered using Crusader over Paladin but I feel as the metagame for AVR develops black would be less common although RG seems to be a real threat. I just like being able to have two double strike creatures that can potentially give you a huge advantage early compare to having a more solid and evasive creature the Crusader provides. Once the Scar block rotates I think the Paladin will be a no brainer since it is easily the only replacement for the Crusader that comes close in usefulness. I'll have to see how it plays out once AVR is released.

I like it. I can see where the hellrider can be thrilling. I'm in the midst of making a r/w flicker human deck. The malcontents just seem too good to pass up with some cloudshift.

Very nice deck!

Have you considered using Thraben Doomsayer and Lightning Mauler? But is very consistent!

Nice done!

Thanks for your comment! I have tried Thraben Doomsayer in my ISD R/W deck and its just too slow. In Standard everything is much faster and there are much better 3 drops you can play like Fiend Hunter, Paladin, Crusader, Midnight Haunting, Oblivion Ring, etc. Lightning Mauler might fit well if you had bigger bombs. Right now the only bombs in this deck are Paladin and Hellrider (which already has haste) so I don't see the point in playing him. It also causes me to be more red and I rather stay more white early game.
