Deck Description

Starter Budget -series is variation of my famous(?) Budget Decks -series.
In this series, I attempt to create decks that go great for starters:
They do not have extremely valuable or complicated cards. Most of them are simple commons and uncommons.
Though, this doesn't mean that these decks aren't threat. In right hands (and some practice, of course,) they can overwhelm very tough opponents.
These decks are meant for those who have just dived into the mysterious depths of Magic: The Gathering, or for those people who like simple and cheap decks. Or, to just anyone!
Budget is meant to be low! (Less than 15 bucks.)

(Remember: If you are new player, do not be afraid to ask if you have questions. Northy has always time for newbies!)

How to Play

Inspired by Jessie (and his wife).
I'm not sure that is this simple enough, but I'm sure that this is cheap enough at least. I hope your wife doesn't have problems with this. Feel free to edit it to make it fit your wife better. If you want so Jessie, I can create something more simple if this seems too complicated.

Control the battlefield with some simple faeries.

Deck discussion for Starter Budget: Simple Faerie

Thanks a million!!! Will show wife very soon! Guess this means I really have to teach her, now!

Have a question about my Vampire deck. I just made it.
Card in question is called High Market.
It says, Tap it, Sac a creature: Gain 1 life.
So If i plan to play Damnation and kill everyone's creatures.
Can I sac multiple creatures? Or is it 1 creature per 1 tap?

One creature per one tap.

Damn...was thinking the same.

Was looking for something to take advantage of Damnation and Nevinyrral's Disk.

Kinda...since I am already nuking the board...and I am trying to take advantage of my stuff dying.

Was thinking something like Claws of Gix or High Market...or something.

Dark Prophecy?

Yes, yes. That is it. Now...my winning condition is Sanguine Bond...every time I gain a life my opponent loses a life. So...idea is to play something that lets me gain life for sacking permanents...then play Damnation or Disk. Idea is that my creatures and stuff are already going to die...might as well make it hurt my opponent more.

Thing with Claws of Gix...is that if I cast Damnation on Turn 4...I would not have any mana to use Claws of Gix to nuke my own creatures.

I even thought about adding Culling the Weak...since I already have to lose my creatures to Damnation...might as well sack one of them for 4 mana.

Ultimately...i would love a card that read just like this, "Sac a permanent you control: Gain 2 life." No mana cost to it. lol. Is there a card like that?

Sorry. There's nothing like that in MtG.

Yes there is...sorta. Zuran Orb.

Same idea. Play Armageddon and then sack all of your lands to Zuran Orb. You and your opponent both loses all lands...but you benefited from it, your opponent didn't.

But probably not a card like that for artifacts/enchantments/creatures.

Blood Artist?

Okay. Okay. So...I am a little slow with the rules. Let us say I have Blood Artist and 4 other creatures out.
I have Sanguine Bond out.
I cast Damnation.
What happens?
Do I gain 5 life for all 5 creatures going into the graveyard, and if so, does my opponent lose 5 life or 10 life because of Sanguine Bond?

Does his creatures count too? Let us say he also has 4 creatures, what happens?
Does Blood Artist work on his creatures?

They all die at the same time so blood artists ability would trigger for each creature that died with it.

So, in other words. I have Blood Artist in play with 4 other creatures. My opponent has 4 creatures too.
I cast Damnation. All creatures die and Blood Artist deals out 9 damage to the opponent and I gain 9 life. Right?

If so, If I have a Sanguine Bond in play when I cast Damnation. That 9 life I gained from Blood Artist, would it trigger Sanguine Bond to deal 9 more damage to my opponent, since I gained 9 life?

I freaking hope so.
Please tell me it does.

Technically he would lose 5 life twice (10 total).

he would lose a total of 18 life. (9+9)

I think my Vampire deck will do quite well in the tourney, then.

What I plan to do, and I knot it is flawed. Is use Magic Vault and Draw Sample Hand tab. Use it for 2 different decks. Write down what i would draw for 20 or so turns, and go from there. Take turns as if 2 people were playing against each other.

Play all 12 decks like that.

When I do Draw Sample Hand for any given deck, I will (because, in theory, i want them to have an equal chance to win) not keep the hand unless I have 2 land cards in my hand. Don't want doubt that a deck lost because of mana screw.

Do you have these decks irl?

irl? Umm, huh?

If you mean a way to find them...click on my name. They are all labeled. Creature Challenge #1-12.
Any advice would be awesome!!! Got them all done, finally, today. I want make any changes people suggest BEFORE I start the tournament. Try to make everything fair.

Oh, absolutely not!!! These decks are 200 and 300 dollars.

I have, in irl, Cephalid Constable deck, Burnt Out deck, and Goblin deck (not the creature challenge one).

That is part of the idea...if there is a certain deck, out of the 12 Creature Challenge decks that absolutely demolishes all of the other decks, then I might consider trying to buy it. I mostly trade my cards into a card company for store credit, you know? Get rid of cards you never use for cards that you will use. Win win.
