Deck Description

Starter Budget -series is variation of my famous(?) Budget Decks -series.
In this series, I attempt to create decks that go great for starters:
They do not have extremely valuable or complicated cards. Most of them are simple commons and uncommons.
Though, this doesn't mean that these decks aren't threat. In right hands (and some practice, of course,) they can overwhelm very tough opponents.
These decks are meant for those who have just dived into the mysterious depths of Magic: The Gathering, or for those people who like simple and cheap decks. Or, to just anyone!
Budget is meant to be low! (Less than 15 bucks.)

Remember: If you are new player, do not be afraid to ask if you have questions. Northy has always time for newbies!

Notice to those who have suggestions: Northy doesn't like to edit Starter Budget decks after creation. Northy likes them the way they are as he creates them; simple, cheap, and damn funny.

How to Play

This deck teaches newbies the ways of auracrafting.
Auras can be powerful weapons in right hands, so use them wisely. Like, Fencing Ace armed with Unflinching Courage can be a horribly powerful foe to your opponents.
While Fencing Ace beats up butt, Gladecover Scout handles the "staying alive" part.

Deck discussion for Starter Budget: Aura

WG aura decks were always my favorite XD

Some suggestions though:
1. Aura Gnarlid over Watchwolf! Sooo much more utility with all the aura you are going to have
2. Armadillo Cloak! Its ability isn't lifelink, so it can be separate from Unflinching Courage!
3. Wheel of Sun and Moon/Auramancer/Retether! They have mass enchantment removal? No worries! We are getting them back!

But great deck :)

Auramancer could work well here. Going to sideboard some of those other ideas.
Thanks again for suggesting exodd.

something i really like to add to aura decks is Calming Verse which remove your opponents enchantments

Hmm... might try the g/w ordeals from theros. I noticed while building this deck http://www.mtgvault.com/kjsj3/decks/ub-control-rotation/ that the tomb would allow nightmare and squelching leeches to be usable in decks besides mono black. Am I right in my assumption? Does it work like that?

You mean Overgrown Tomb? Yes. It is count towards to Squelching Leeches' power and toughness.

M15 tomb. Forget the name, but it's in the deck link I posted.

Why not 4 Ethereal Armor? Besides that this is one of your best starter decks!

I always feel so iffy with Enchantments/Auras.
Mainly the 2 for 1 loss you face.

Example: You have a Fencing Ace enchanted with a Unflinching Courage (2 cards).
Your opponent cast Terror on it (1 card).
He just used 1 card to get rid of 2 of your threats.
It is card disadvantage for you.

However, attacking with a 3/3 creature with double strike, trample, and lifelink on Turn 3 is very, very nice!

if its an enchantment creature on top of fencing ace you only lose fencing ace the enchantment creature stays in

If team rocket is flying around in a hot air balloon and pikachu ko's the hot air balloon, team rocket is still there. (Unless they go blasting off again...)

Hero of Iroas? Auras Cost 1 less and when you enchant him he gets an additional +1/+1 w/ Heroic. It builds fast.

2

I agree with this, Hero seems good as maybe at least a one of, if budget constraints prevent more being added.

They have it sideboarded, so it is considered as an option.

I know how you feel about suggestions, so this is the only one I've got: how about Ordeal of Heliod? You could trade out Oakenform for it. Unless you want to sideboard it, then I would suggest Elvish Visionary, since you've already got Heliod's Pilgrim and Mesa Enchantress.

needs more hexproof!

invisible stalker, slippery bogle

hexproof is what makes any aura deck effective without it it turns literally EVERY removal spell into a semi-guaranteed 2-for-1 or better.

also aura decks typically run fewer creatures then most aggro/creature strategies, since all you need is one dude to beat face

You should sideboard Revoke Existence to switch out with Naturalize. Granted Naturalize is Instant and Revoke is Sorcery, Revoke Existence can get rid of pesky indescructible God Cards or other indestructible like Darksteel Citadel w/ Ensoul Artifact or cards that punish destruction like Scuttling Doom Engine.

fabled hero is cheap and only 1 mana more then fencing ace he could replace him and he adds a heroic ability to grow counters everytime you drop an enchantment on him

I like it! Can easily be upgraded with Eidolon of Blossoms, Armada Wurm, and many other things to make it a fantastic deck.

I get that this is a beginner deck, but I feel like a Fleecemane Lion in place of Watchwolf is reasonable, given that Fleecemanes are about a buck now, and a very massive upgrade at that spot.

Can they?

I think Monstrosity is very easy to understand, though takes some practice to master (much like anything you play at instant speed).

So close to being standard. Suggestions?

0

It doesn't have to be standard. It is meant for newbies.

0

Adding the fact that if you kept this standard, you would lose some of the best cards in this deck come rotation.

Just wanted to say "thanks". I put this deck together this past week (with a couple small changes) and did very well against my buddy. It was also a lot of fun to play. I love playing MtG but I hate spending money, so I love checking out your budget decks. Keep 'em coming!

You know what?
Every time a person says something like that to me, it fills me up with energy enough to produce 100 additional budget decks. So, as long as someone keeps saying something like that to me, no-one is able to stop me from doing these.
