Friday Budget -series (earlier known as 50 Budget) takes the budget-playing into the next stage. Using cards to build decks with under 50 buck mid-value, Friday Budget -series tries to help you build new decks and use new ideas. If there is any deck you would like to see as Friday Budget, please, let me know.
"Hey, you know what time it is?""What?""It's a beat-up time!"This black deck shows why dark magic is a formidable foe to every single one who dares to challenge it.Cast a whole lot of kill spells. Cast annoying creatures. Drain huge amounts of life with Gray Merchant. Leave your opponents no corner.

I love this deck because its low mana cost meaning you can get things earlier :)
Exactly!Take a look at that mana curve and breathe deep.
ya bro :)))))
I look at all these cards that cost $10-$30 each, and then you post an entire deck that cost less than the price of one of those "best" cards. Just goes to show that every card can be amazing in the right deck, and you have a way of making it all come together.
Agreed. I love that aspect of magic that every single card has some use in some deck and you just have to build it. Lucky for us, Northy has a talent for such deck building. Epic deck Northy!!
Thank you both so much. Would be shame not to give your comments some love.
I especially like that the casting cost of the permanents really jacks the devotion up for the merchant! Its a good deck, Northy!Like+1Would Sangromancer fit?To benefit from Hippy discard
If you had a few extra bucks dictate of erbos maybe helpful in this , Working on this deck http://www.mtgvault.com/dragon77/decks/elves-of-plenty/
Dictate of Erebos and Sangromancer going in to the sideboard.Thank you both.
You forgot Etched Monstrosity, works well with hexmage :)
Sideboard could have place for it.
maybe desecration demon?
That's one of the best black beaters around. Definitely going into at least sideboard.
You get more devotion from Grave Pact than Dictate of Erebos. Just sayin. Its not budget conscious though.
Great deck! =) Like the Vampire Hexmage + Etched Monstrosity combo out of the sideboard to bring the beats even faster against slow decks! And Ogre Marauder is a nice creature I didn't know about! Thank you Northern!
Btw, see if you like my Tenhi deck! I'm working on it in real life! eheh
Of course I'll check out your deck.
I love vampire hexmage so much. Planeswalker killer, extraordinaire. Can be great with the undying/persist creatures too, for getting in an extra round of death and destruction! To that tune, you're pretty vulnerable to board wipe. What do you think of adding a couple phyrexian reclamations to get those dead boys back into the action?
That kind of stuff goes straight into the sideboard.Thank you for both liking this deck and suggesting a card.
nantuko shade is a very underpplayed card
Nuff' said.
GARAAAAAAAYYYYY. Automatically like because of gray merchant.
Gray Merchant is overpowered for a common card. When he decides to hang out with his buddies Nantuko Shade, Geralf's Messenger, Vampire Hexmage and Gatekeeper of Malakir, things get rough.
I have a very similar deck (not as budget friendly), but some of the thigns I would recommend would be Crypt Ghast and Divinity of Pride. Also, the utility of a Vampire Nighthawk is also very powerful.http://www.mtgvault.com/berndttoast/decks/im-gonna-syphon-your-life/
Nice deck, I would look to add Conjurer's Closet, using it to bounce the Gray Merchant at the end of every turn would really put a hurting on your opponent!!!!!!
Nice use of Gray Merchant, sir!! That's how you build up devotion!
Other good ways to get devotion:Underworld DreamsWhip of ErebosAnd my fav, Massacre Wurm
Massacre Wurm is one of the best black cards in the game, in my opinion.
Very very nice. =) Another +1 from me. Because you have gray merchant, I WAS going to suggest phyrexian obliterator but a single one would double the cost of your deck, so I guess he's out. What about Master of the Feast or phylactery lich (with some vault of whispers since you'll need them for the lich counter). Anyway, another very nice deck man.
northy I just put together a budget rakdos deck that looks pretty good if you want to take a look
Black Beaters...umm...anyone watch football? Insert Ray Rice or Adrian Peterson joke here!
lmao that is so bad
You got it! I don't have cable anymore, too poor right now, so I don't watch Football...but those guys are all over the news media, right now!
im from MN so i hear about the ap story all the time and i saw the rice video and there is no reason a big guy like him should be swinging at a women the way he did
Agree to that.
You are so right!I'm in Baltimore and even we are disgusted by the rice video. Even the morons who cheered him in training camp.I think its pathetic how the nfl is trying to save face by being sooo shocked when they knew all the information months ago and gave him the 2 game wrist slap. Now they are trying to misdirect us to look at the video instead of how they handled it. The problem wasn't that they saw the video, its that WE saw the video and now they must scramble to avoid money loss. Bah.Go Orioles! Clinched playoff spot tonight with win.And now back to our regularly scheduled program..... Nice deck Northy :)
now Brandon marshal is in trouble so theres another beater lol
true... nfl front office sure looks slimy right now.
wont be any players left in the nfl if this rate keeps up
budget is bit of a stretch
My budget with Friday Budgets is always 50 bucks. It doesn't matter do I use it all or not. It just gives me an opportunity to try something new.
Yep, true story superkeeper. His regular budget decks are under 20 dollars. His Friday Budget decks are under 50 dollars. Northy is the champion here, with Budget! You mind checking this one out, Northy? http://www.mtgvault.com/jessie/decks/self-mill-yeah-it-works/
Of course I'll check it out.
budget is per deck builders discretion... i do $100 modern "budget" starter decks, because i think it takes at least $100 to be competitive at FNM within modern
That's true Zaklax13. Unless you play a burn deck. I have a mono red burn deck that was probably about $50-60 total... its pretty beast. I can upgrade 1 of the cards to another one but each one is $20 and i'd need 4. I've been getting by without it though....I haven't taken any of Northy's decks to an event yet but I do plan on it in the near future.
With burn winning a gp even that is getting expensive.... Goblin guides, vexing devils, eidolons are up there!
I'm only planning for the Goblin Guides, which were actually the $20+ cards I was referring to lol. I need 4 of them and then the deck is "complete". I have 4 Eidolons already but am not using them yet. I want to play test this deck a little more before I add/remove stuff
Hey Northy, here's a deck I've wanted to post about for quite a while! This is a Dredge-style Simic-ish deck that is loads of fun and I would love your input! Thanks!http://www.mtgvault.com/tangey/decks/death-clock/
Me too, me too!One more budget deck for you to look over Northy. This one is 20 dollars.I am self milling myself. I am putting Splinter on myself and removing all 30-40 lands into my graveyard to power up Terravore! He is like 38/36 trample on Turn 4. :)http://www.mtgvault.com/jessie/decks/turn-4-3836-trample-creature/
Jessie, can't find your deck with that link. Are you sure it is public or unlisted?
I deleted it. The deck didn't work.Splinter doesn't remove lands...it exiles them. So...yeah, sorry!
Never mind. We all make mistakes.
Hey Northern, I have a kind of similar black devotion deck that is standard for khans. If you could take a look and help me out a bit on the sideboard that would be awesomehttp://www.mtgvault.com/ceefu/decks/khans-mono-black/Thanks man
Sure.
