Deck Description

Are you bored? Does Magic: The Gathering feel old and vapid? Got any useless bucks in your bank account? Ladies and Gentlemen, I have solution.
Use your bank account on nearest MtG marketplace website and buy some cheap cards, craft a deck, and challenge your friends! To double the fun, ask your friend to create such a deck too!
The Budget Decks -series is meant for your free time! These are meant to inspire you, and deck's value is meant to be low! (Between 10 and 20 bucks.)

How to Play

Inspired by RedRanga.
So, this werewolf-stompy tries to smash and crush your opponent before they can get too much resistance. Early game wolvies are gonna help you with that.

-Gatstaf Sheperd, Reckless Waif and Scorned Villager are all good ways to start the game. Gatstaf Sheperd has evasion, Reckless Waif costs only 1, and Scorned Villager gives you mana, so you can get other wolvies more quickly.

Anytime. Anytime.
If you come up with another deck that you want to see as a budget, you know where to find me.

Roflmao. It's a Teen Wolf deck. XD! Seriously though, I love the flavor of the deck. One may be able to leverage some girls to play magic if you play it right.

Aside from that awesomeness, "this deck is a blast to play" (NorthernWarlord). I can't wait to order it! You have actually made me want to play R/G, a combo I never wanted to before. Northern, and RedRanga, nice work.

You HAVE to mention that if you take 4 Kazandu Refuge out and replace it with Copperline Gorge so this will be legal in extended!

They are pretty priceful, but I guess I can sideboard them for those who enjoy a little more priceful cards.

Gruul Guildgates are extended legal too aren't they? They are also cheaper and more in line with the Refuge in speed.

Yeah. That's right. Didn't think about that.

Interesting concept, I have one similar but it is more aggro oriented. The only suggestions I can really make is squeeze in that fourth mayor. He is possibly the best werewolf, aside from Huntsmaster, and Wolfir Avenger is an excellent card too. On your turn just don't play anything, transform everything, then flash it in on their turn.

Since you have 23 lands and a source of ramp, as your most expensive spell being 4, have you thought about adding a card you could ramp into with all of that unused mana? Something like a hydra?

1

...Or then I can cut one land away in order to add one more Mayor.
Boom. I just killed two birds with one rock.

Thank you. Didn't notice that mana-situation myself.

better, but you would still be getting more mana from scorned villager and I think that you would have too much mana to use, which is why I would recommend something like 2x mistuctter hydras for a later game card.

2 mistcuttters is like 6 bucks though

you could always use something else then, that was just a suggestion

The sad thing about this deck is that when it was standard, this was a pretty typical looking werewolf deck. Having it be a "budget" deck now is very strange to me because of that.

Bask in the weird and unexpected - that's what Magic is all about!

oh I know. :) it makes the game unique and interesting. :) and who know. 3 years from now there might be more Werewolf cards, and some of these (mayor and outlaw perhaps) will shoot back up in price because they are super powerful all of a sudden.

So true ... just look at the prices of knights after Knight Exemplar came into play.

0

Yup. Knights... Now there is another creature type that needs more attention. There are not NEARLY enough cool knights out there.

1

Except for G/W, which has a full compliment of cool knights: Armored Wolf Rider, Wiltleaf Cavaliers, Steward of Valeron, Knight of the Reliquary, etc. Pop in some fiendslayers, knights of meadowgrain, and lionheart mavericks with good green enchants (like trollhide armor), and presto! Cool knight deck. Pretty cheap too.

Though if there were as many knights as vampires or zombies ... that would be SO awesome!

May I suggest Mondronen Shaman in place of Instigator Gang?

0

At least put her in as a sideboard.

I forgot that devastating lady!
I must find room for her. Thanks for reminding!

2

I personally find Instigators much more useful. When you manage to turn them its a beast.

0

They are both beasts, just in slightly different ways. Instigators flipped are ridiculous for aggro - it's like having 3 battle crys that can target the creature sending them out. Mondronen Shaman is a free shock whenever your opponents cast a spell.

With the mana curve I am not sure you need scorned villagers at all. I'd replace them with Young wolfs... Nice option for T1. Or wolfir avenger as MTGEI33t suggested.

Thank you for suggesting, but I guess I'm keeping Villagers now. Extra mana ain't ever bad and I have a soft spot in my heart for them. They have saved my butt more than once while playing my Werewolfie deck.
I hope you understand.

Your deck, your choice :)) No problem with that I fell the same about Kruin Outlaw. Sweet chick.
I tried villagers in mine and just didn't work for me.
Well done deck anyway.

Thanks for understanding. Some people won't understand when I keep cards in my decks because I like them.

3

Oh I do understand this. MTG is about fun. I often use cards just because I like them even if they don't fit in the deck 100%.

2

That's perfectly valid. Why would anyone ever use my namesake, Knight of the Hokey Pokey, if that wasn't so?

Huntmaster is down to about $5. might be worth putting one in.

There are so many good werewolves ... Lambholt Elder, Ulvenwald Mystics, the hilarious flavor text on Tormented Pariah ...

0

What about Prey Upon instead of Pit Fight? Only one green mana and does the same thing. Fits the flavor too. Although it is a sorcery, as opposed to a instant but still, think about it.

Please add Village Ironsmith for Gastaf Sheppard

I understand it isn't actually a werewolf but Wolfir Silverheart is both inexpensive and can be a huge beater when you need it to be, works well paired with wandering wolf

Agreed. Plus it's flavor text is pretty cool.

silverheart doesn't have any flavor text, avenger does though
