Deck Description

Are you bored? Does Magic: The Gathering feel old and vapid? Got any useless bucks in your bank account? Ladies and Gentlemen, I have solution.
Use your bank account on nearest MTG marketplace website and buy some cheap cards, craft a deck, and challenge your friends! To double the fun, ask your friend to create such a deck too!
The Budget Decks -series is meant for your free time! These are meant to inspire you, and the deck's value is meant to be low! (Between 10 and 20 bucks.)

This specific budget deck is inspired and requested by Kraven01.

How to Play

Since the days of Carnophage, people have known one thing while playing mono black: It is completely cool to have just 1 life left if your opponent has 0!

Don't care about the life restrictions! Be positive! Cast those creatures and think only about the good sides, like: "Ohh, take a look at this Carnophage, it is a one-mana 2/2! Sweet!" or "Woah this Grinning Demon is huge! 4-mana 6/6!"

Sangrophage is one I recently found that fits well, also have a similar deck. Only I went for the creature pain and spell lifegain.

Maybe Vampire's Bite instead of Butchers Glee? You lose the regen, but it's a little more flexible with cost, allowing a speedy hit if necessary.

Why not add Dark Ritual? A turn 2 Grinning Demon or turn 1 Pitiless Horde/Hypnotic Specter would be more like suicide black.
-3 Gift of Orzhava +3 Loxodon Warhammer
-4 Herald of Torment +3 Hypnotic Specter
-2 Dark Tutelage +3 Dark Ritual

If you dare to go full suicide
-4 Sign in Blood +4 Infernal Contract

That may be true, but it's a $9 deck. I think you can afford to splurge a little. Not that I agree with the suggestions, in a suicide deck I would not want to wait the full extra turn for the Warhammer. You're on a time limit already. No need for an unproductive turn in the middle. Heralds fit much better than hippies, though dark ritual definitely deserves consideration.
All just my humble opinion though.

well, i guess if u r building a sucicide deck then those cards are pretty good, but north rly likes his decks to be buget friendly

I understand the sentiment, but a playset of dark ritual kids like $3. Takes the deck from pauper status to budget status. Well within realm of reason. Hell, it's still on the low side of the budget spectrum. Don't gimp your deck for the sake of being cheap, it's less than a happy meal and makes a world of difference.

It's getting ridiculous now if something like Dark Ritual is "banned" from these decks. What's the point in this? It's a 9 dollar deck ... more importantly, budget or not, Dark Ritual is a card that is still comparebly cheap for what it offers. And you can reuse them again and again in almost any black deck you will build. Nobody is doing himself a favour if he downplays like that.

when i said he likes budget friends, i didnt rly meane that dark ritual was the problem, more like hypnotic specter and loxodon warhammer are 1.5-2$ each, which would coste like 15$ for palyset of bothe

Suggestion? Find a way to add some Underworld Connections. They are GREAT for this kind of thing!

Gonna have to agree with the Ugandan Pornstar on this one. Unnecessary.

But Underworld Connections is an enchantment, Sign in blood is a sorcery.

sign in blood costs 2 mana, underworld connections on the other hand costs 3 mana, and also requires u to spend 1 land for it each turn, which is pretty bad in aggro since u barely have any lands and u gotta invest them to get cardses. also this deck already has dark tutelage and dark prophecy which imo is betetr, since they and dont require any more investment other than the initial mana.

Underworld vs Sign in Blood is just playstyle preference. Do you want the consistency for more mana or do you want cheap and faster? Underworld has the added bonus of providing for the merchant's devotion. Personal preference will win out.

well, since this is aggro you want cheaper and faster?????? if u go full mono bleck devotion, then sure, but that would reqjuire more of a midrange build n stuff

True enough. I don't agree with underworld myself, I'd prefer the sign in blood 9 times out of 10. But that tenth time makes me understand the argument for the enchant.

True, true. I agree to both arguments.

* I would upgrade Tribute to Hunger to Consuming Vapors.

* The Gray Merchants are great in multiplayer, but -along with Tribute to Hunger/Vapors- don't really fit the philosophy of this deck (if one would take the title and description "Who needs life?" serious).

* This has a bumpy mana curve, regarding creatures. You either need to add those Dark Rituals so you can go Grinning Demon on turn two or add casting cost 2 guys, preferably you do both. Flesh Reaver would fit the theme nicely - seems like he was already suggested, so this is another "vote" for him. Another contender would be Fledgling Djinn (you lack flyers).

Very nice deck and concept, Northy. Afterall, you only need 1 life to win. A win with 1 life is the same as a win with 100 life.

I also finally made a budget deck (pauper to be exact) so I was hoping you could help me out on that. Any advice would be appreciated. Mana base, sideboard cards, etc. Thanks so much!

Who needs life? ;)

Besides, that question can never be answered because so much depends on what the opponent is doing.
