Deck Description

Are you bored? Does Magic: The Gathering feel old and vapid? Got any useless bucks in your bank account? Ladies and Gentlemen, I have solution.
Use your bank account on nearest MtG marketplace website and buy some cheap cards, craft a deck, and challenge your friends! To double the fun, ask your friend to create such a deck too!
The Budget Decks -series is meant for your free time! These are meant to inspire you, and deck's value is meant to be low! (Between 10 and 20 bucks.)

How to Play

Inspired by KnightoftheHokeyPokey.
The Simic Combine grow hydras patiently, not with such a rush like Golgari. Simic grows powerful hydras, and use devastating tactics.

-Bioshift is handy card with hydras. When your hydra is about to get killed, cast Bioshift is order to save the counters. Think how damn powerful it is with Master Biomancer.
-Crowned Ceratok and Sapphire Drake provide you with the most deadliest strategies: Rushing in straight ahead, or letting your hydras create "death from above" -attacks.

Deck discussion for Budget Decks: Simic Hydras

Oh no what have I done XD!

Master biomancer scares my socks of. On the bright side, doubling season is too expensive and corpsejack menace is Golgari.

I can't help thinking that there is a budget version of doubling season ...

Hmmm... What if...
I create The Mimeoplasm EDH running all those three cards?

*head explodes*

If it catches on, I am pretty sure Wizards will not allow doubling season to go unbanned much longer XD!

Holy crap, I found it!

It's ((primal vigor))! It targets the entire battlefield, but it's much cheaper. If you use it, make sure to bring along ((simic manipulator)).

And the ridiculous saproling card is ((mycoloth))!

I know those cards... They are all deadly... If I create the EDH, those cards are going in!

1

Oh my ... just the sheer among of lulz when master biomancer is in the field!

Let's see, Mycoloth comes into play with 4 +1/+1 counters on it thanks to master biomancer. I then devour my hydras to gain 14 +1/+1 counter. But WAIT. My mycoloth really gains 36 +1/+1 counters thanks to primal vigor. But WAIT ... that's really 72 +1/+1 counters thanks to corpsejack menace.

let's see, it's my next upkeep.I proceed to place 144 saproling creature tokens into play. And they EACH gain 4, err 8, err 16 +1/+1 counters!!! So I have 144 17/17 saprolings on the field. And they have either flying or trample!

Optionally, one can simply put the 36 +1/+1 counters on master biomancer with bioshift if the opponent kills mycoloth. The best part ... primal vigor doubles the amount of +1/+1 counters the creature receives.
And I think that I have not done the math right ... since the doubling abilities are all on the stack... nevermind, I did it right.

Yikes, this is scary.

That's the reason why I thought that all +1/+1 counter-decks should come with dices. Calculators would be nice too...

I use d10s in my Heroic decks (and often have to double-up), but this kind of chicanery calls for d20s or even percentage dice. Nuts. Pure nuts.

This is why I run a white knight deck w/ knight exemplar (gives knights indestructible) and day of judgment (destroy all creatures - they can't be regenerated).

Day of Judgment allows regeneration...
Wrath of God doesn't.

The first and only idea that came to my mind:
"That's a lotta boom."

Nice to see I'm not the only one who uses Gatherer. I actually use it very much while creating new decks either in here Vault, or at my workbench in real life.

I made a r/g standard deck with primordial Hydra as the star back when it was legal. A friend of mine thought his r/w boros deck would beat everything because it relied heavily on stalling with reckoner and then dropping in big creatures like avacyn in. Well I had my primordial enchanted with alpha authority and I managed to get it up to about 360 and then just flattened hid reckoner.

Well ... I waste my time on gatherer reading the hilarious comments on mtg gatherer for ridiculously good cards. The comment pages also contain some pretty sick combos.

Just read this blip on Gideon Jura:

And Northern, I call dibs on making a Gideon-themed deck XD.

But I can create more...

EDIT:

0

Man ... if your ramp can get him out turn 4 ... that's really hard to deal with.

And this new Garruk is nowhere near the power of Primal Hunter .... but I suppose there are worse things than being not quite as powerful as one of the best Planeswalkers of all time ...

0
Posted 06 July 2014 at 20:54

I'd argue with that. Yeah as soon as he hits you could get a nice draw in, but as soon as the new Garruk hits primals gone. Or you can get rid of another threat. I'd say they're pretty even, as far as pros and cons go.

0
Posted 07 July 2014 at 22:40

He's even with Primal Hunter but costs more ...

However, he does make B/G fun to play.

0
Posted 07 July 2014 at 22:58

The key to the new Garruk is destroying an enemy Planeswalker on his first turn. Bye-bye Jace!

0
Posted 07 July 2014 at 22:59

so you think he is competitive priced at 6 then?

0
Posted 07 July 2014 at 23:03

He's only 2 more to play, which isn't a big deal for green and it's ramp, and I said they were even in their pros and cons, which I'd consider that a con. Just like primals cmc con would be the fact he costs 3 forest. Not a problem for mono green, but multi color decks might have a little more trouble. All in all, I'd stick with they're pretty even. Though, to each their own. The thing I really enjoy about the new Garruk though is the fact you can either remove another planeswalker 1st turn, or another threat such as Desecration Demon, or some other creature.

0

Caller of Beast's main strength is his -3, which he can do the turn he comes in. His +1 isn't as strong as New Garruk's destroy Planeswalker. I would safely saw that their first 2 abilities are approximately equal.

Their Ultimate abilities are also approximately equal.

Therefore, since Garruk, Caller of Beasts mana cost is more splashable, he has a small advantage over the new Garruk.

Don't think that I dislike new Garruk - I love him. Just because he falls short of a 6 CMC card that could drop a 2 5/5 Wurms with trample (Armada Wurm) or drop a Garruk's horde and play another creature with a +1 ability does not make him bad, not even remotely. All Jaces don't suck because they're worse than the infamous mind Sculptor. Nor are newer Gideon and Elspeth bad.

0
Posted 07 July 2014 at 23:25

And FYI ... I meant Garruk, Caller of Beasts before.

0
Posted 07 July 2014 at 23:35

Caller of beasts makes a little more sense. I'd probably give him the edge as well, only because his cmc and I like his ultimate a little more than the new Garruk's.

0

Yeah ... he is so much fun with big creatures.

0

ah i still say new garruk is best, he fits my style

0
Posted 11 July 2014 at 03:45

That's what counts the most. Even though Planeswalkers are the most powerful card type, they are but one warrior in a phalanx. If you're comfortable with a play style, then the other 56 cards will make Garruk shine.

Oh well ... feel free to build upon the budget framework as you find sicker and sicker cards. That's my favorite way to make decks, period. I mean, if my soldier deck was bad-ass in it's budget form, how much better will it be when I add Gideon Jura to it?

I know I'm a bit late to the party, but how about taking out 1-2 Clockwork Hydras and putting in some Heroes' Banes? Clockwork Hydras always seem sketchy at best for me (by forcing you to remove +1/+1 counters), and since Heroes' Bane practically doubles by itself (creating quite the combo with Vorrel), it seems like a really logical choice.
