Deck Description

Are you bored? Does Magic: The Gathering feel old and vapid? Got any useless bucks in your bank account? Ladies and Gentlemen, I have solution.
Use your bank account on nearest MtG marketplace website and buy some cheap cards, craft a deck, and challenge your friends! To double the fun, ask your friend to create such a deck too!
The Budget Decks -series is meant for your free time! These are meant to inspire you, and deck's value is meant to be low! (Between 10 and 20 bucks.)

How to Play

Inspired by PhyrexianPossum.
There you go Possum! Hope you like it!
This mono-blue Merfolk deck uses some hard-to-block Merfolk with some devilish spells to create effective, cunning, and -most importantly of course- extremely annoying deck.
The main way to win is to use Merfolk like Triton Shorestalker, Augur of Bolas and Stonybrook Banneret to get great kickstart and be able to finish off your opponent before they get something far too big, something untouchable, (like Thrun, the Last Troll or other Hexproof cards,) or simply just too many creatures.

-Merfolk Sovereign can make some of one of your creatures unblockable until end of turn. This is an effective way to deal damage every turn, no matter if your opponent has great line of defenders.
-Coastal Piracy takes all out of your attackers. It is an effective card, no?

Deck discussion for Budget Decks: Possum's Merfolk

Sorry to hijack on one of your decks, but I can't find a way to message you directly. Do you ever put in EDH decks? I've got some I have been working on, but I seem to find myself to be a bit of a lackluster deck builder.

Of course I make some EDH decks too.

Good deck, but I would like to suggest the following:
1. Talrand really doesn't do much here. Maybe move him to the sideboard for some other cards, such as Coralhelm Commander, Master of the Pearl Trident, or Merrow Commerce (first 2 are lords; the third essentially gives vigilance)
2. Sideboard Spreading Seas/Lingering Mirage for those Islandwalk cards

Now as you say it, Talrand doesn't seem to fit. Get outta there, Talrand!

My merfolk deck also costs about the same as yours. It uses Rootwater Matriarchs and 1/1 minnow spawners. Great job! I really enjoy your budget deck series. It's a underrated part of magic.
