Are you bored? Does Magic: The Gathering feel old and vapid? Got any useless bucks in your bank account? Ladies and Gentlemen, I have solution.Use your bank account on nearest MtG marketplace website and buy some cheap cards, craft a deck, and challenge your friends! To double the fun, ask your friend to create such a deck too!The Budget Decks -series is meant for your free time! These are meant to inspire you, and deck's value is meant to be low! (Between 10 and 20 bucks.)...Ohh who am I fooling? This deck is just one dollar, man! One dollar!
Every single one knows this deck. So many have already created it. I'm just creating my own variation of it now.So, this deck costs a bit over 1 buck. The value doesn't contain lands, of course, but in the other hand, you don't have to pay for lands, since almost every single player does have whole mountains of unused basic lands. At least I have. And I have this deck in real life too. It wins something about 75% of it's games. So, the basic idea is to mulligan until you have Treasure Hunt in your opening hand. The most best situation comes when you have both Treasure Hunt and Zombie Infestation in your opening hand. However, start by casting Treasure Hunt and keep casting Treasure Hunts until you get Zombie Infestation. You'll probably be able to cast it on your next turn. If it is turn 4, you can maybe cast it immediately. When you have cast Zombie Infestation, discard your hand in order to get zombies.
This deck has been viewed 17,874 times.
wow. this is about as simple a deck as ive ever seen, and yet it works so well O.O
Permalink
Yeah. I have it in real life. It has beaten something about 75% of its games, as I already said in "How to play" -section.
I recommend 2-3 Reliquary Tower. So if you hit another Treasure Hunt you can keep everything you drew.
Not only that, but with reliquary tower, you can discard at the end of your opponents' turns, and you can swing in for lethal next turn.
the 25% that beat it is the hand removal like thoughtseize.... isn't it
That's just ridiculous....LY AWESOME!!! :D I'm making this and surprise my MTG group with it!
I hereby throw down my gauntlet! I challenge you to make some interesting combos that will blow me (and everyone else) away!I need YOU. This deck is in dire need of imaginative ideas. Contribute today (or whenever you come up with an idea, whichever is sooner)!
Ridiculous!Good, simple, and its 1$?What about 2 more zombie infestation in case they destroy it?
I agree with this XD but seriously, it is such a simple deck XD
I know that they can destroy your Infestation, but if I add more of them, it will reduce the effect of Treasure Hunt. And this deck is meant completely for fun, so it is not so horrible if you don't win after all.I have beaten couple of my friends with this... Those were some great times...
You are right, casual combo play is what it's meant to be.1$ is important too.
You said it. You said it.
Classic fun. You can go with slightly more expensive versions which include Reliquary Tower for being able to make enough zombies on the following turn to be lethal. I also like Tomb of Urami as something to do if the Zombie plan fails.
I am aware of existence of those cards, but this deck is "One dollar deck"!
Interesting how people still want to add stuff to an ultraminimalistic deck that has one job and a one dollar budget and works :-)
That's just extremely true. That's just what I intended to show with this deck. Everyone else has something about 500$ variation of this, while I think I'll manage with a single dollar. That, that is the real MAGIC.
Then again, it's kind of in the nature of a MTG player to get the most out of a deck, concept or combo. It's hard to let that go. But very rewarding when you do and pack out with a deck like this :-)Also it's very fun to watch all these comments and the disbelief :-)
You are a player that I like! Where have you been all this time? Like, I make hundreds of decks here, and you don't seem too familiar...
Around, I suppose :-) I just started playing again half a year ago after a hiatus of almost 15 years. Played from '96 till 2000-2002, I think. I'm just a casual player, roaming this site for ideas, fun and inspiration :-)
Dude, join the club, I must be your double or something! I started out last year, plunging into a dreadful new world of Magic after having learned Gen 2 rules from my Dad. My friend gave me a crappy Boros deck ... 1 Lightning Helix, One Exile spell, and 4 Glory Seekers. Hell, it had 2-3 Boros cards in it. From what I can gather, it too was a 1$ deck, at least to my friend.I have since found Warlord, and his wonderful budget decks are all the inspiration I need.
And if my name is no indication, I am a hardcore white player with a particular love for Knights. Therefore, I suggest an alternative deck - 26 Islands, 14 Plains, 14 Forests, 4 Treasure Hunts, and 2 Knights of the Reliquary. It's not budget, but it's my variation. And it uses Knights, and that makes me so very happy!
I'll make deck about it. Maybe not today, but I'll make it.Thank you so much HokeyPokey. You've been the best friend that deckmaker really can have. I owe you so much.Thank you again. For everything.
What ... and here I thought that I owed you becoming interested in magic again =)! Seriously man, I used to dread making decks. My Gen 2 upbringing led to ... awkward deck building ... I could botch a deck with Jace the Mind Sculptor on my side =(. You, along with other MTG vault members (censured) and [name redacted], have let me have fun making decks.P.S. I would love it if you temporarily abandoned your spendthrift ways ... come to the Dark Side, we have cookies!
I have made few decks called "Wallet Rapists". I you want, I could make couple more of them.
Lol ... my wallet is sensitive and prefers to not be raped.Remember that "user-made" deck a while back =).
Awesomeness :-) I used to love making decks, but I was horrible at them :p I must say the MTG Vault community did help me out a lòt! Warlord's decks are always fun and inspiring to check out, mostly because they always seem "done". Sure, you can add some more expensive cards or splash some this or that here and there, but you don't hà ve to! It's like a well-made cocktail. Sure, you can add a slice of lemon to that pint of Long Island Iced Tea, but you're still gonna get wasted without it! :-)
As I have said before:My soldier deck is badass in budget form. In fact, because of it. Now, let's spike it with a Gideon Jura or Elspeth.
That's how it goes my friend.First start with cheap ones, then proceed packing some additional punch. That's how my first deck went. And today it is my best deck. It can finish off my opponents as early as turn 4.
So true. That my friend is the true spirit of Magic.
why not run with reliquary tower so you dont have maximum hand size?
Because he only really cares about it being 1 dollar.
Read comments that I posted to Spiffmeister's and Itches's comments.
I feel like this could use more lands. Would that hurt the overall cost of the deck too much NorWar? ;)
I don't think so.: )But in the other hand, all of my decks contain 60 cards (except EDH-decks of course).Should I break this holy signet?
needs over 9,000 land lol
Oh no ... I think Wizards found you out! The minimum deck size in standard is 60, as we all know. While there is no maximum deck size, my comprehensive rulebook states that players must be able to shuffle their deck without assistance. Drat, just when we were starting to have fun XD!
You know, I never really thought about that...YOU ARE INDEED A DECK BUILDER'S KEY.Minimum is 60...no maximum....I may try a 75 card version.
Dude, I learned to play modern Magic from the comprehensive rulebook. If you have any Q's about the rules let me know.Speaking of which ... I think it's time to visit Jace and all his dickery.
Also, a good limit to shoot for is 65. 70's about the roof.Don't forget to take extra lands along.
I'm going to be trying this out as soon as it comes in.I'll be adding the towers but that's just me.
maybe put some relentless rats or typhoid rats or something cheap in this deck with still yet a low cost
Not bad idea, but you know this deck's only idea is to get Zombie Infestation with Treasure Hunt, so if there gets any nonland card between them, I'll get it instead of Infestation. And if that happens, I'm screwed.
Ommmmgggg this is perfect. Seems like a good troll deck
You should call it Zombie Land :PObvious Pun, but I'm going for it. Nice Job.
Zombie Land? That was hilarious movie.Thank you both.: )
Zombie Land, brilliant :-) (well the movie was bad, but the name suits the deck :-) )
Silence! Don't make me call Colombus and his Twinkie-toting friend.
"Where the f*** are all the twinkies!?"Tallahassee? Was that his name?
Muh, I'm a bit of a Zombie-freak, and Zombie Land isn't a Zombie movie, it's a roadtrip movie that happens to feature some Zombies. Bad ones. Even Swamp Zombies (which can hardly be called a "movie") and The Stink Of Flesh were better zombie movies than Zombie Land. And The Stink Of Flesh had purple zombies, one of which was systematically abused :pIf you want to see a really good recent zombie movie (the best ones were made 4 decades ago), check out Exit Humanity. It remains true to the zombie genre in all its aspects and uses an original setting (i.e. anything but teenagers in a mall).Spiffmeister: Topic Changer!
Spiffmaster: Zombie genre master!
Spiffmeister: Movie buzzkill extraordinaire.!
Bad Movie Buzzkill & Good Movie Inspirationist Extraordinaire, you mean :p
I'll have to give you that one.
so simple yet so powerful. you just better hope you shuffle good. b/c when i play never shuffle right
That's right. As long as you mulligan Treasure Hunt to your opening hand, rest is up to luck.
Sweet merciful Jesus this is so real.
I'm going to build this now.
I have it too, and I would say it is pretty neat to play!Have fun playing!
you need a card that allows no max hand size, like reliquary tower or vensers journal.
Why? The whole point is to discard your entire hand all of the time for all of the zombies.
BlackRazz meant that if I run towers I would be able to discard more cards at first time if I didn't play Infestation before, or at the same turn. Thanks for suggesting Razz, but this deck's "slogan" is that it costs only one buck, and that's pretty sweet, no?
Especially when it beats the 500$ + Eldrazi deck your friend spent all week putting together =).
Hahahaha!: DGuess that's possible...
Yeah, i suggested those cards in case if you treasure hunt into another treasure hunt, but it's only turn 3 or something, so you don't have enough lands to play the second treasure hunt, that way you don't have to discard your entire hand and loose a ton of lands you could have discarded.
Kojiden has deleted this comment.
You are right. About both. But thank you so much for suggesting! Together we can make these decks perfect!
this is pretty awesome.:)
Thanks, man! That's so lovely to hear!
I like most of the decks that are in your budget set. they usually look fairly effective, and this one also just happens to be a unique approach to tokens. (not saying it hasn't been done already, just that it isn't your every day run-of-the-mill token deck.) And honestly... I LOVE Treasure Hunt. such an interesting card to me.
If only I could give two thumbs up ...
Awww... Thanks man.:3
too bad there is no green or white in here. throw in wheel of sun and moon, and that would be hysterical. :)aside from this being only $1
Talk about a zombie apocalypse...You must be the people I hate facing...
me? nah... I am a mediocre player at best. :)this does look like a really fun deck to play with though, wouldn't you agree? so simple, and yet so effective.
Please, that land cycle idea is brilliant. I just don't have a clue on how to incorporate green or white into this, maybe blue green, but that missing green card...*pun I did not intend for...*I just added it to my cart on Cardkingdom Im gonna go to my local shop today to grab some seismic assault's and treasure hunt to try that out tonight. The people I play with won't suspect a thing.
have fun. :) the look on their faces should be pretty entertaining. :)
Go zeezak! Go give 'em hell!
I don't think Wheel of Sun and Moon would be very helpful for this deck. The goal is to Treasure Hunt into Zombie Infestation. If you don't hit that you won't win. If you Treasure Hunt into Wheel of Sun and Moon you will most likely just die.
true, but for a casual deck, that is ok. :) and besides, if it plays the way that it is supposed to... it would be an awesome sight to see. :)
Guys, please check out the addendum to this deck linked to in the second comment. You will find that this combo has more than a few incarnations.P.S. It can be green-white-blue.
This is so beautiful there are no words lol I used to run this combo with red/blue and use Seismic Assault (little more than a buck each though) to discard the lands for 2pts damage each, insta-land death lol
Probably the most famous incarnation of this deck ...
Yo Northern, any help spreading the word is appreciated!
Sure, my friend!
Done it before. But I had 4 Zombie Infestation and 2 Reliquary Tower http://www.mtgvault.com/s0rinmark0v/decks/treasure-huntn-zombies-10-2/
Yeah. I know that so many have created it. (Read How to play plz.)
Amazing! ahah =)
Thanks!: D
reliquary tower
BUILDING THIS DECK!!! AWESOME!!!
Go jerzey! Leave 'em no corner!
ok, just thought of another card that would be fun in here: Anger. 2/3 (I think) with haste, and as long as you control a mountain and Anger is in your graveyard, creatures you control have haste. :)
Go and suggest it in KnightoftheHokeyPokey's deck named "Ooh... That combo"!I'm sure he'll respect it!
yeah, I will.at this point I am just trying to think of cards that would go well with this combo, not particularly for this exact deck :)
Thanks Northern! Kazzong, anger sound pretty awesome.
http://www.mtgvault.com/matrocles/decks/dig-deep/Ignore the lands that bring the price up, I'm really just interested in what you think of Psychic Spiral in this deck. I've had a lot of fun testing with it, but I haven't brought it against a real deck yet.
Northern you should make a Facebook page or twitter and post when you got crazy ideas so I can follow you better. I'm seriously like your biggest fan here
Ohh, do I have fans now? That's sweet...
I call dibs on the merchandising!
Well in all seriousness, I do think you should. I'd love to get notifications at work when there is a new deck you've made. It would give me something to do haha! You spark up countless ideas, and you could always issue challenges and contest's and what not. Or ask us for help for once =P
Could someone check this deck out and tell me if I did this right. My first time making an Eldrazi deck.http://www.mtgvault.com/poisonblade/decks/eldrazi-annihilator/
I'll take a looksie. Check out mine too.http://www.mtgvault.com/jerzeydevyl/decks/eldrazi-colorless/
It is finished! Check out the Army of Two theme deck!http://www.mtgvault.com/knightofthehokeypokey/decks/army-of-two/
This needs Reliquary Tower. Otherwise, you will just lose almost all of the cards because of maximum hand size. You will be able to play Zombie Infestation on turn 3, which means that you will only have 6 lands in hand. That means that unless if you draw a second Treasure Hunt, you will only be able to make 3 2/2s on turn 3 and not be able to do anything else after that except make a 2/2 every other turn. Also, what happens if someone counters or makes you discard your Treasure Hunt?
If your treasure hunt is countered ... you're screwed, unless you pick up another. On the bright side, it isn't that likely on turn 2, unless you are playing Jace.
Nice thinking with Reliquary Tower.
Okay so I just built this yesterday and I have 4 Zombie infestations in it and I was wondering if I should drop it down?
I'm not sure. You better try it out first, then judge the amount of Infestations.
I constantly get ruined when people destroy my one or two of when I use it but I hate when Treasure Hunt top-decks it and my combo is ruined for quite a few turns.
If you hate being countered, try this variation:4 Country Crusher + 4 Elixir of Immortality + 52 Mountains
And what do you do when they counter your Countryside Crusher?
assuming you go first and can get him out with the right land, you may not have that problem. unless you are in a tournament, you are often unlikely to have to deal with counterspells
Even a single removal spell would be able to stop it.
That's why it is only a fun deck. For one dollar, you shouldn't expect much. And for a one dollar deck to win 75 percent of the games it is played in, that is simple genius! Imagine your opponent's face when you beat his 300 dollar deck, and then tell him how much your deck cost! lol. That is worth me liking this deck.Good luck!
This might sound weird, but SoulOfMirrodin and Jessie, you are both right. This deck can be stopped with single removal spell, yes.And yet it costs only one buck, and I've had so much fun playing it, regardless did I win or lose.
Also, Elixir of Immortality can bring your Crusher back into your deck, which stops a whole lot of removal and milling (you ARE milling yourself).
At the very least add in those Reliquary Towers. Those are necessary to get enough cards to use Zombie Infestation with effectively. Also, another possibility for a wincon is using Lightning Storm.
Okay I dropped down to 2 Zombie infestation and put in an Elixir of Immortality to make my graveyard reusable and have yet to have a problem with the deck.
I am glad it works!
^~^ My first modern deck.
how about a Grimoire of the Dead?
This deck isn't taking much suggestions, but I guess you could go and suggest it to KnightoftheHokeyPokey's deck. You can find it along other hot decks in hot page! It is called Ohh... That combo.
alright, thanks NorthernWarlord, ill go check out his deck.
not to steal Knightofthehokeypokey's thunder but, Leveler and labratory maniac would be a great asset for this deck.
Lol, those were not my ideas. Read the description of my deck to see whose it is.Grimoire of the Dead is mediocre in this combo. On the other hand, it might go well with your zombie deck Northern ...
yeah, can you check out the new deck i just made, its pretty sweet but feel free to suggest! http://www.mtgvault.com/macattack907/decks/selesnya-aggro-lifegainwin/
I would love to see more $1 dollar decks or less than $5 decks :)Budget FTW
I'd love to see more $1 decks! This looks fun to play.
A singleton trade routes seems like it would do really well here and costs like thirty cents, but thats just my two cents lol

Could anyone spare the time to have their mind blown by an Izzet deck?http://www.mtgvault.com/knightofthehokeypokey/decks/it-jace-2/
Alright my friend, I have a special request/challenge for you.I'd like you to build a deck under the following conditions:A) Must build a combo using Hundred-Handed One;B) Must be a two-color deck; andC) Must be a Budget deck ($10 or less).Challenge accepted? (=
Challenge accepted, my friend. Challenge accepted.
The deck is done. Look for a deck called:"Budget Decks: Challenge of 100".
NorthernWarlord, need your help big time on this one. I hate stealing your comments/decks all the time, but I have no other way to reach out for advice.http://www.mtgvault.com/jessie/decks/creature-challenge-1merfolk/Doing a Creature Tournament. Have 2 creature types from every color including 2 types from artifacts that I am going to make decks for. A kobold deck, dragon deck, human deck, angel deck, fairy deck, merfolk deck, elf deck, elephant deck, vampire deck, zombie deck, myr deck, and thopter deck.No rules with budget. The decks have to be at least Vintage/Legacy legal. No banned cards. And most of the creatures have to match the type of deck that you picked out: for example, don't add elephants to a human deck, or don't make a vampire deck with just one vampire. Those are the basic rules. After all 12 decks are built, I will face each deck off against the other one. So that, for example, the Merfolk deck will face every single deck one time, and I will write down his record out of 11 battles. Then I will do that with every other deck. The deck with the best overall record will determine with Creature Type is supreme! As always, I need your advice. Everyone's help. Tell me what you think about the 1st Deck of the tournament. And suggest improvements. I will try to return the favor with anyone that helps out.
Sounds like an incredible idea. I have to help you.
Merfolk is first deck i built. Now I just finished Beast. Number 2.
Can I help?
Indeed, Pokey, you can helphttp://www.mtgvault.com/jessie/decks/creature-challenge-1merfolk/http://www.mtgvault.com/jessie/decks/creature-challenge-2-beast/
Thanks ... this is going to be fun!
I have an elf deck that you can take a look, along with a human deck. The human is the Boros Battalion.
Thank you, I will take a look!
can you check out my latest deck? i just threw it together, not sure how it will do, but still needs tweaking! thanks http://www.mtgvault.com/macattack907/decks/underworld-destruction/
Hey Northern, what do you think about adding a Psychatog? They're really cheap and would still keep the deck around a dollar, and your Psycha could use the discarded cards from Zombie Infestation.
thebrentster has deleted this comment.
Sadly, The card prices have brought the deck price above 1 dollar.
Shadow of the Grave, a card that will definitely bring this deck to new levels of awesome!!!
