Deck Description

Using smallpox to hurt your opponent more than yourself, hoping for a way to make smallpox lock down an opponent (desperately want isochron scepter reprinted)

Any tips would be great

Concerns: The lands, I don't usually run 4 tectonic edges because I'm afraid of a potential landscrew,

I'm a fan of occursion so Bloodghast is a must, espicially if he's a 4/3 that helps me even more.
Hawks because if I run out of nighthawks, I got squadron hawks!
Swords for extra hand control and giving me extra mana. I think two should be enough (I gotta go out and get those for testing).
Elixir incase my opponents are destroying my creatures left and right (days, BSZ, etc).
Open to any tips.

Deck discussion for Smallpox Control

your concern for lands can be solved with fetchlands, like Evolving Wilds or Teramorphic Expanse, I think.

I considered those but using them without lotus cobra makes me think (Because of this I haven't experimented around too much without cobra) that itll slow the deck down too much with 1-2 tapped lands

fetch lands from zendikar are very useful, i would use a few od those especially with bloodghast
i would also suggest geth's verdict, may be an okay card to throw in there
Tectonic edges can go in the sideboard
other than that really cool deck!

I have the marsh flats fetch land, I wasn't sure if it'd be worth getting 2 of the BG and 2 arid mesa fetches, would they be worth it?
Where I go for FNM, half the players switched to valakut when cawblade dropped(like 60%+ was cawblade) so I'll side out 2 tectonic edge for fetches. I like keeping 2 in just so I have some defense against man lands if the game gets down to that. I think I'll take out the SB dark tut and arrest (as Mercedes suggested) for tects go fit into side.
I'd love to use Geth's Verdict. it has become one of my favorite removal spells. I don't know if its needed here though, In the side I could drop a dismember for a verdict so its 2-2.
Thanks for the help :D

I agree that at least two of the Tec Edges can be sideboarded and replaced with a couple more basic land. :) Plenty of decks, even in FNM, might not run many non-basic lands outside of fetch lands. Also agree that Geth's Verdict is nice early control and works with your deck. Maybe take the second Dark Tutelage and the Arrest out of your board for two more?

In the comment above I took your advice, thank you. The reason I'm not just dropping 2 tectonics is because I have few answers to valakut without them. They'd sac a forest with pox and kill me with mountains.
Thanks for the tips, I'm going to edit this now.

have you never think about the pharaoh in m12 hes pretty synergy with smallpox.

I was really considering him, but with no alternative way into the grave aside from an opponent (who should know that is definitely the wrong choice), having a 8 card hand (which shouldn't happen) or if my opponent mills me (which isn't too frequent where I play) and the normal field to grave, I don't think he'd be worth crippling the mana curve.

I can't really say a lot about decks like these, since i dont know how the play out. I do know that a few sign in bloods could be good to have, aswell as maybe either day of judgment or black sun's zenith, depending on your preference. Reassembling skeleton does have some decent synergy with smallpox.

Also, look out for the innistrad spoilers, that expansion will probably add a lot to this deck!

Ahh yea I'm anticipating Innistrad to help keep the deck improved and competitive in standard.
I'll throw in a day and see how it works, if I seem to need it I'll put a second one in. I think I'm gonna drop a squadron hawk for it, I think 3 of them with the cycling will be fine. I completely forgot about day haha thanks.
I don't know what I'd replace for Sigh in Bloods so I'm gonna experiment around and see if I need the extra draw frequently.
Thank you
