Deck Description

This is my refined version of a mono-red standard deck, with a few changes including a human sub-type. Feel free to comment and give advice, and I will get back to you as soon as I can.

How to Play

Some tips while playing this deck:

- Akroan Crusader helps alot when trying to get Obelisk of Urd out in the early game (turn 3 is the earliest you can get it out).

- Hammerhand is nice for triggering the heroic and prowess abilities of your creatures, and is overall very useful.

- Thunderous Might is awesome when you have a lot of creatures on the battlefield, as it directly benefits from that (not tokens though).

- As I said earlier, Obelisk of Urd is a very nice card with a human sub-type, so try to get it out as soon as possible. And, its convoke makes it even better when you can drop it very early on.

- Take into mind the COST of this deck . . .

- Coordinated Assault is a very nice card, as it can trigger heroic abilities twice, as well as prowess.

- Titan's Strength allows for much early damage.

- Magma Jet and Searing Blood are nice damage spells with added benefits, making them very cost-effective.

I would swap valley dasher with war-name aspirant. The haste is nice but the attacking just increases the chances of it dying faster

is 18 land viable?

....i never run less than 20....seeing as 18 averages 1 land hands...

glad to see mono red is still being played in standard in some places.

Well, the reason why I chose 18 lands is because of the VERY low mana curve. Besides from Obelisk of Urd, which you pay mostly with convoke, the rest of the cards are 1-2 mana. If I were running more cards that belong in the later game, I would add more lands. But due to this low mana curve, 18 lands seems to be enough. And actually, it averages to about 2 lands per starting hand. Here is my math: (18/60 = 0.3, 0.3 * 7 = 2.1).

that math requires you to have snuffled perfectly though, so i always feel that number is a little lower in practical terms. . . but if it is an average of 2 then i guess that's fine.
