Deck Description

[u]Basic Idea[/u]
I wanted to start a pauper 'tournament' with my local playgroup and, after looking at the decks I already had built, decided to try something new. My first deck I ever played was a green starter deck from 8th edition called "Heavy Hitters". Perhaps this explains why I come back to this colour so often.
This deck differs in some cards from the "standard" monoG Stompy list that can be found all over the internet, because it is simply my personal take on stompy.

[u]Tests[/u]
This is one of the decks I'm using as benchmark, to test my other Pauper decks against, the result for each test are recorded in a google-document spreadsheet and added to the description of each of my pauper decks. If you're interested in details from the spreadsheet, feel free to ask.

I'm open to all suggestions and ideas that may help to improve this deck.

How to Play

The key to this deck is speed, you want to attack as early and as fast as possible to put pressure on your opponent. [[Skarrgan Pit-Skulk]] needs some preparation, but if you get him going, enchanted with [[Elephant Guide]] or [[Rancor]] then it will be very difficult for your opponent to stop him.
[[Garruk's Companion]] in combination with [[Burning-Tree Emissary]] make your [[Aspect of Hydra]] very powerful, which can be used to protect your creatures from bolts, or deal extra damage to your opponent.
Last [[Timbermaw Larva]] in combination with [[Rancor]] and [[Ram Through]] can be a sick one. Attack with [[Timbermaw Larva]], remove a small creature from your opponent with [[Ram Through]] and the rest of the damage will be dealt to your opponent, even before your creatures will deal combat damage!

Deck discussion for monoG Pauper: Stompy

Rancor? +2/+0 and trample for {G} and it comes back to your hand if put into the graveyard from the battlefield. It was originally printed as a common, so it is legal in Pauper.

I didn't add Rancor because I'm not entirely sure if it is modern pauper legal. It was originally printed in Urza's Legacy as common and then in 2 editions that where out of the box. Duel Decks: Garruk vs. Liliana, Archenemy and Planechase. After that Rancor was only reprinted as uncommon.
I will have to ask our local judge if he can determine the legality for pauper of those 3 releases.

If it would be legal I would remove 2 "Giant Growth" and perhaps 1 "Phytoburst" to add 3 "Rancor"

It is legal, that's why I suggested it.

"If a common version of a particular card was ever released on Magic Online, any version of that card is legal in this format.

Example: Counterspell was a common card in Seventh Edition Core Set online. Counterspell was reprinted in Masters Edition II with an uncommon expansion symbol. Both versions of the card can now be used in pauper."

I finally decided to throw the "modern pauper" legality away and focus on real pauper.
I rebuilt the deck, and now I'm also using Rancor, which can be a tough one to crack for your opponet when used with Skarrgan Pit-Skulk. It also makes the combination of Timbermaw Larva (one of the few surviving cards from the old version) and Ram Through rather dangerous. Attack with the trampling larva, target a 1/1 with Ram Through and deal massive damage, before your creatures even start do deal damage themselves.
I also was able to finally test the deck against my other pauper brews, using Coakatrice, and it works very well. The only things so far (I'm not completely through with my test-list) that gave me some trouble where Golgari Madness/ Hellbent (40% Winrate), Izzet Prowess (30%), monoW Equipments (30%), Orzhov Enchantments (20%) and Selesnya Enchantments (15%).
