A fantasy deck for me. I have most of the cards to make this deck, obviously I don't have a Jet Mox or Juzam Djinn, but for the most part, I have the rest of the components to make this deck.
Simple idea, put the nastiest, heavy hitting creatures black can put up, low cost, high power threats...that have life-upkeep, but make it WORTH it with the life gaining effects included. I love Carnophage & Sangrophage...because if you choose not to pay their upkeep, they just get tapped.
Overwhelm your opponent before they can get their defenses in place.
5/26/19 - added eight powerful demons that share the deck's theme of hard hitting, low mana cost (with sacrificial cost)...ANY of them would fit in nicely.
* Abyssal Persecutor is low cost 6/6 flying trampler ...and to get around his nasty ability, he makes for an excellent sacrifice!
* a new creature: Demon of Catastrophes, again, low cost 6/6 flying trampler with a simple sacrifice payment as it comes into play. Got to get some of these!
* Demon of Death's Gate is grossly over-cost for this deck, BUT with an alternate cost that fits nicely. 9/9 flying trampler with no other costs to maintain once cast.
* Grinning Demon has been in this deck since the beginning, since I call him "Juzam Djinn's big brother". Use Morph to avoid one 2-life upkeep payment.
* Griselbrand is expensive for the theme, BUT he is a 7/7 flying lifelinker and with one successful hit, he can pay for his 7 card draw ability...and with so many life upkeeps, it's hard to say 'no' to a big lifelinker.
* Liege of the Pit was already in my deck before adding these other demons, using his Morph alternate casting, makes him cheap, and you get one free turn where you can use him and NOT have to pay his upkeep.
* Master of the Feast, what a great card in the Juzam tradition, 5/5 flyer that only costs THREE mana...yeah, in multiplayer games, he'll give your opponents a lot of free draws, but that's what this deck is about.
* Mindwrack Demon is a bit weaker than the other demons at only 4/5 with flying and trample, he has a cost to play AND a nasty upkeep...he fits the theme, but I think the other demons offer more and cost less.
* Shadowborn Demon costs one more than Mindwrack, and is a beefy 5/6 and flies, but does lack trample. The nice thing about Shadowborn is that he has no nasty payment, quite the opposite, he gets a free creature destruction. His upkeep is easily offset, since this is a creature-heavy deck...it's going to have plenty of creatures in the graveyard.
* Treacherous Pit Dweller - extremely low cost at only 2 black mana, for a 4/3 creature...no flying, no trample or any other ability. Oh, he does have Undying, but of course, when it triggers, he'll go to your opponent...but you have plenty of ways to deal with a 5/4 creature if you have any of the creatures above...right? I would not recommend getting 4 of these in your deck though...it could go south in a hurry.
