A 60 card deck, using the fewest cards possible, 10 cards, 4 copies of each = 40, add 20 basic lands, and you have a minimalist deck. This is one of my minimalist ideas, a simple mono-red dragon deck.
The sideboard includes Dragon's Claw (in case life loss is an issue) and Goblin Arsonist (in case I need the deck to play faster). I wish I had 4 Fire Diamonds, but I only have 2...unless there are a few hiding from me. I only have 1 Dragon Egg, four of them would be another ideal for this deck. If I had 4 Diamonds, they'd replace the Shaman (which is the card I dug up to replace Diamonds when I realized I didn't have four...though it might actually be better to have the Shaman). If I had 4 Dragon Eggs, they'd replace the 4 Walls of Fire. I originally intended to use 4 Walls of Stone or Walls of Granite, but again, I don't have 4 copies of either one, so I decided to use Walls of Fire instead. Summoner's Egg would be even better, it would be the most cost effective way, to bring the Kilnmouth & Shivans onto the battlefield, but again, I don't have four of them.
Although I am using Seething Song as a means of getting Kilnmouth & Shivan into play faster, they can also be useful if used to pump the D Hatchling, D Whelp, Furnace Whelp or Wall of Fire...turning a +3 into +5, might be enough to win a game or kill a nasty threat.
Lightning Bolt is a no-brainer, too much damage for the low cost...and it's the ONLY low cost card in the deck.
Demolish is just a nice defensive card, to clear pesky artifacts, or to destroy opponent's land (to help this deck's own slow mana buildup). Yes, I could destroy artifacts for just 2 mana using Shatter, and could destroy land for 3 mana using Stone Rain, but Demolish can do either function, so paying the extra mana isn't all that bad when you consider the card count restrictions of this kind of build. IF, I routinely faced players who favored a heavy dose of artifacts, Shatter would be my answer...and IF I faced a fast mana green deck, Stone Rain might be the better choice, but against the unknown, it's best to prepare for any contingency.
At first glance, 8 high cost dragons might seem to hurt the deck speed, but look at the mana curve...4 count of 1-mana and 2-mana cards, 12 count of 3-mana and 4-mana cards, and 4 count of 5-mana and 6-mana cards...might not be a classic bell curve, but it is roughly bell shaped...if you're using an 8-bit screen =)
If speed is a problem, I guess I could grab 4 red-mana generating lands and replace the Demolish set...another option.
