They are not cheap, but [[Swarmyard]] would make your spiders really hard to kill.

This is just the sort of red/black deck I was looking to build. I love the evil choices theme. Since I'm just a kitchen-table-with-friends player, I don't need to worry about tournaments. I just want to make my friends curse my name, and this has some great options.
