Turn 1: Emrakul, the Aeons Tor..

by Mr.Mulligan on 17 October 2012

Main Deck (60 cards)

Sideboard (0 cards)

No sideboard found.

The owner of this deck hasn't added a sideboard, they probably should...

Submit a list of cards below to bulk import them all into your sideboard. Post one card per line using a format like "4x Birds of Paradise" or "1 Blaze", you can even enter just the card name by itself like "Wrath of God" for single cards.

Deck Description

Mulligan until you have a Channel, Oath of Druids or a Mystical Tutor to grab one of them, then lay out the BFG. (Lotus Petal and Channel allow for turn 1: Emrakul, the Aeons Torn)

Timmy-- The creatures in this deck are some of the most overkill creatures in the game.
Johnny-- Quit drooling over the Oath of Druids and Forbidden Orchard combo.
Spike (The Tournament Player)--This deck is more illegal than child porn. I'm not so sure if you would be interested, but feel free to take a quick peek.

I would throw some ancestral recalls in there if I were willing to pay over $30 for a single piece of cardboard, but if I can find 35 pieces of card board for $300ish? Now we're talking...

Suggestions appreciated

Deck discussion for Turn 1: Emrakul, the Aeons Torn

haha yes. very cool casual oath deck. plus channel is just too crazy!

i would drop some of the weaker creatures though.
platinum angel and platinum emperion are never as good as youd think they are. and if your dropping those might as well drop soul conduit as well.
sundering titan i feel is unnecessary here too.
also chancellor of the tangle, while his ability is decent, you dont want to oath into him, and you cant channel into him, so that slot can be better filled with something else.
the one of elvish pipor seems problamatic with oath as well. oathing into him without backup in your hand would be bad news. ----- ive never been a fan of quiksilver amulet either. i would stick with channel and oath as my cheat sources-
-your also rocking a whipping 28 lands here.. definatly got cut like 6 forests while were at it
so thats
-2 platinum angel
-2 platinum emperion
-2 sundering titan
-2 quicksilver amulet
-4 chancellor of the tangle
-1 soul conduit
-6 forest
that gives us some wiggle room now.
if your trying to stay mono green that limits us, but if your willing to add blue your option open up dramatically ---- we have 19 slots open, what we need to focus on is a way to find your combo, and a way to protect it and make sure it resolves
brainstorm is great at manipulating your hand and deck and finding cards you need.
crop rotation can find your forbidden orchard for 1 mana
dispel is a great 1 mana counterspell thats a hard counter for your opponents counterspells, and alot of there removal as well
lotus petal, or elvish spirit guide can net you that free mana you were using the chancellor for
for creatures i would add 1 ulamog, and 1 kozilek, and then you should be good on crazy creatures
so mayybe something like this
+4 brainstorm
+3 crop rotation
+3 dispel
+3 not of this world
+1 ulamog
+1 kozilek
+4 lotus petal

Hey, solid idea and concept, I have some suggestions tho..

1. Look into getting the card defense of the heart, that combo is insane with forbidden orchard.
2. I would drop some land, 28 land seems like wayyyyy too much, I wouldn't put that much land even in a landfall deck. I would say at least 5 or 6 forest need to go.
3. If you can get ahold of them, you should put 2 of each Eldrazi titan in here and drop either the pathrazer or crusher. Kozilek, the butcher of truth blows pathrazer and the crusher out of the water with his abilities and mana casting cost.

But nice deck =] channel is too mean, Thank god they restricted it in vintage and banned it in legacy.

I have a buddy that runs a deck similar to this and nothing is more upsetting then on first turn when they drop a forest, remove elvish spirit guide from the game for another green mana and channel emrakul out.

i agree with chewida, the pathrazers and crushers just dont stand up to the power lvl of the other creatures and also the big reason they need to go, is that they lack any sort of protection. i would drop those, up the colossi to 4 each. and add maybe 2 more dispel or 2 ponder/ preordain

if you have the money, misty rainforest would be a great addition, combined with brainstorm, ponder, etc, it can be a very powerful tool to manipulate your deck and hand.

im thinking maybe..

-2 pathrazer
-2 crusher
-1 land
-1 mystic tutor
-1 brainstorm
----------
+1 blightsteel
+1 darksteel
+2 dispel
+3 ponder

maybe somthing like that?
this deck is actually looking pretty nasty

At first i was hesitant to add blue... But I did it, and I must say that it has made the deck a whole lot more reliable. Thanks for the suggestions guys.

No doubt, of course =p Theres nothing wrong with adding blue for some brainstorm, ponders, and counters..thats for sure.

And as I said in my comment before, You should seriously consider Defense of the Heart. Even without forbidden orchard out, the opponent will be sweating when they play their 3rd creature =] This deck has everything in it to maximize it's effect and pretty much be game over as soon as defense of the hearts ability activates.

defense of the heart is insane. i actually never heard of it and only now just looked it up.
im not sure how it can fit into the deck though, these numbers are pretty tight. but i do agree it has potential. the only thing it has going against it is its mana cost.

everything else in this deck is insanely cheap, you really only need to hit 2 mana and your good to go.
honestly with the 4 lotus petal. you could probably get away with dropping 2 lands. and either adding 2 defense of the heart. or maybe just up dispel to 4 and crop rotation to 3
hmm.
still a little wiggle room to play with..

if you drop some lands, i would get rid of the terramorphic expanses. there basicly just poor mans fetch lands. how annoying would it be to have that channel and emmy in your hand, one land on the table and one terramorphic in your hand. you play your terramorphic but you cant play channel because your land comes into play tapped :(

if you have the money, don't bother with those really. also forbidden orchard taps for any mana. and so do the lotus petals. so your mana fixing effects are pretty decent already.

My suggestion would be to drop Channel all together, and make it into a legal Legacy deck...
No point in playing by some of the rules, but not all the rules.
Maybe add 3 more Defense of the Heart, or go with Natural Order, and some fat green creatures.

If your curious here is a link to a true vintage Oath deck. Of course it cost about $6,500 to build.

I like it, but it's a shame that it's SO illegal. With a little effort, it could very well be an excellent competitive deck (Forbidden Orchard + Defense of the Earth or Natural Order)

0
Posted 01 November 2012 at 23:32

if you were trying to make this competitive it would no longer be the same deck both the combos in this deck are banned, and if your playing u/b NO, why would you play a clunky slow combo like defense of the earth over, say.., show and tell?

it would be a completely different deck.

0
Posted 02 November 2012 at 00:59

Because Show and Tell needs you to have the Eldrazi in your hand. Same for Elvish Piper.
Defense of the Earth/Natural Order is the most reliable way to work it.
I know it would be completely different, but for me it's pointless to have an illegal deck that you never gonna use. It's like making decks with 4 black lotus, I just don't see the point in doing that.

That said, I don't dislike the idea, as I already said. But to me it would be better if it was legal.

you dont think it would be fun to actually be able to play channel?
every deck doesnt need to be competitive.
im all about competitive legacy, and i truly believe the legacy format to be the best test of skill magic offers, but fuck it, if you have friends willing to play with banned cards, why not? magic is a game to have fun with after all, right?

and come on. be realistic. this deck, is nothing like making a deck with 4 black lotus. A. no body actually owns 4 black lotus, and B. im pretty sure this is meant to be a fun, cool deck. to enjoy playing cards you cant normally use anymore.

Agreed with Razka. Wizards wouldn't ban cards if they aren't too damn broken and game-changing. And besides that, your friends wouldn't enjoy the game if you gain the upperhand by putting illegal cards and such. That alone would probably the main reason why Banned/Restricted list was created, not just to balance the game, but to keep the game fun and playable. I've been a player for a long time but I actually enjoy the Pauper or Peasant Format more than any other format right now XD.

You both have good points and correct in a way. Sometimes it's more fun to be compassionate and keep it fair, sometimes it's more fun to put in a little spice and show them who the boss is. It's just a matter of preference.

You'll find its almost always VERY hard to argue with Mashitta :)

I play my friends with a Full card pool. We restrict/ban absolutely nothing. Hell, we even all OK'd the use of Proxies. If everyone can have a black lotus, it loses its exclusivity. After a couple months, the big ubercards just kinda went away. We realized that 0, 1, and 2 turn kill decks just werent fun. Sure, i have at least three decks that all kill on the second turn about 90% of the time....You know where those decks are? In my Briefcase, untouched for months. For me its all about the fun, So i dont compete anywhere, even if there were places to do so. The discovery and affirmation of a plan is the best part of any game. Win or Lose, something new is always over the horizon.

I see where people are coming from with the counter-ability, but realistically if you are lucky enough to pull the cards to drop emerkul on t1 you deserve the win, which is why an additional emerkul may be a nice addition. I agree with the earlier statement about mono red...grumble, grumble.

0
Posted 08 November 2012 at 08:36

Yes, yes, yes... Mono red would laugh in the face of this deck. Imagine turn 1 I put out Emrakul and take 15 health. Next, Mono red throws a shock and a lightning bolt at my face and I die. The point of this scenario is that having Emrakul out on turn 1 by no means ensures my victory. However, I am willing to bet that mono red doesn't have a shock and a lightning bolt in their hands, even if they run 4 of each in their deck... And if they do? Well, good game mono red deck... Good game. It lasted 2 turns. Touche
