Deck Description

Get to business with Bow of Nylea, Kessig Forgemaster and Ash Zealot in the offense. Either blockers die before they can destroy the motivated and ambitious attacker (payraise and dental plan incoming) or no blocker falls for their deathtouchy viles so they can wittle down the opponent's life total reinforced by Atarka's Command and the Bow's abilities.
Keep up the pressure with Senior Attack Manager Surrak, CEO of the Great Hunt and two Office Vampires nobody bothers to call pest control about. Wipe the enemy's entire workforce with dream team Ronin Cliffrider/Bow of Nylea.

Support spells include being faster, hitting harder, burning stuff and killing shit.

***Fight responsibly. DT Inc. is not liable for any injuries due to too much deathtouching and trampling.***

Deck discussion for DeathTramplers Inc.

You mention Kolaghan Aspirant in the description, but it's seems to be missing from the deck.

Rancor is a solid source of trample. As is Kessig Wolf Run.

Yeah, forgot to update the description, thanks for reminding me. I replaced the Aspirant with the Ashmouth Hound since that one's strictly better in this case, opening up an option for a more solid defense.

Kessig Wolf Run is a great suggestion! Thank you!

I was wondering why you have the Evolving Wilds? I think 2 more Wooded Foothills might be more useful.

Hey, yeah, absolutely. I'd love to run a set of 4 Foothills but I only have two at the moment. Therefore the manabase still looks a bit sketchy. It does work though.- :D
And once I get my hands on two more Foothills they'll go in here in a jiffy.

Very interesting brew I've always loved the ping to destroy with deathtouch synergy. IMO I feel like Stampeding Elk Herdis just to overcosted for what your getting, especially in modern. I'd suggest replacing with Ash Zealot. Hasty if your playing on turn 2. So much hate against Snapcaster and flip Jace. As well as being first strike which works so well with what your doing with deathtouch here. I also think Banefire is much better then Crater's Claws.
Just my opinions take it for that. Happy Casting. :)

Hey Maniac, thanks a lot for your suggestions!

I agree that Stampeding Herd is kind of a weak spot in this (Flamewake Phoenix could be another one) but I like the big body and trample for all my critters. Although... I added Kessig Wolf Run due to another suggestion, so I still have trample there...mhhhhh. Ash Zealot doesn't seem bad at all. First Strike is great with deatchtouch, as you said, and it still fits in with Nykthos (veering it more towards red). Would make the deck faster for sure, so I'm gonna try it out a few times. Could at least be a sideboard card. Now, if I did decide to add it in I gotta rename the deck: DeathstrikeTramplers. :D

I guess Banefire makes more sense in an overall Modern environment but my opponents play mostly mixed decks. And most of them hate blue, haha. So I'll stay with Crater's Claws for now, although Fall of the Titans has been glancing at me rather seductively. Could be worth the swap, especially with Ash Zealot instead of Herd to enable Surge more reliably.

On another note, what do you think of Archetype of Aggression instead of Stampeding Herd? Another good replacement or trample bonus not enough for weaker body and 3 CMC? Nylea, Goddess of Hunt came to mind as well but she's worse with devotion.

Cheers!

On another note: I recently found Apocalypse Hydra. Do you think it would make a good replacement for Polukranos?
For the same mana cost it's less powerful but it CAN be bigger and the ability is a bit more flexible to dish out deathtouch damage. It lowers green devotion but raises red by one. Also, it's not a legendary, so one less dead card in case I draw both copies. Any thought on that?

I like it. I think it's better in most scenarios really. Considering you can use it's counters to deal damage each combat when it attacks. Polukranos is a one time thing since you can only monstrous a creature one time. As well the only way you have to give your creatures deathtouch is when they're attacking. Maybe 1 or 2 copies of Lace with Moonglove could help that.

Thanks for your input! I do wonder though if I sacrifice too much power to gain some utility. Especially when I also switch out the Herde. It's true that Polukranos only shoots once but more often than not I use him as a board-wiping sacrifice or just plain damage. In those aspect Apocalypse is worse because it's more expensive (for the same CMC I just get a 2/2 instead of a 5/5). But the utility is nice, especially with Shaman of the Great Hunt and Bow to get counters. Next problem that arises is a less frequent Ferocious on Temur Battlerage and Shaman, ARGHHHHH- Probably best to just test it out in a few matches.^^

What would you swap out for Moonglove? I find the Bow mostly sufficient even though it's not 100% reliable. And my other spells are pretty much core.

I found a pretty nice replacement for Crater's Claws though! Since I'm not too worried about counterspells and probably need to dial back Ferocious at least a little, I'm gonna use Clan Defiance instead of Claws. Very versatile card for just one more mana!

Well I think the phoenix is the weakest cad now. It doesn't really fit the thyme or do much in terms of what you're trying to accomplish. However instead of Lace with Moonglove I just remembered Quietus Spike. It popped into head this morning and I thought of this build when it did.

oh ya Birds of Paradise would probably be a better fit then the mystic.

I think I'm gonna replace Flamewake Phoenix with either Markov Blademaster (probably) or Scab-Clan Berserker (maybe), we'll see.
Quietus Spike: Mhhh, I dunno, seems a bit slow to me. But it's a greaet card, for sure, will have to evaluate it a bit further.
Birds of Paradise: For now I'm gonna stay with the Mystic since most of the time I start playing on turn 2. Also, I'd like the option of dealing damage if need be. But I#ll keep the birdies in mind as well. Could make this devilish fast after all.

It's a bit on the mana-intensive side but I found another card that already fits perfectly effect-wise: Armed/Dangerous. I guess, it would replace Temur Battlerage - especially with half of the Ferocious enablers gone - but it's not an instant and that's a real shame. :/

Hey, Maniac. Just wanted to let you know that I played the deck quite a few times now in the new constellation with Ash Zealot, Apocalypse Hydra, Markov Blademaster and Armed//Dangerous and I gotta say, it's a lot of fun! Ash Zealot was a great addition and Apocalypse Hydra's flexibility does pay off as well. I also love how Ronin Cliffrider and the Bow always either make an opponent sweat or get them completely by surprise.^^
Also, I swapped out Ashmouth Hound with Kessig Forgemaster, since that one's even better at the same thing! This deck came a long way since Kolaghan Aspirant was in it. xD
