Deck Description

Hopefully this isn't something you see very often, if at all. This is a deck I've wanted to make for a while now and I am finally attempting. I'm hoping for this deck to be competitive. I'm not seeking a certain legality; I have local tournaments in Standard, Modern, and Legacy, but I am hoping to keep it Modern. Any suggestions will be heeded, although not all will be introduced to the deck. Currently this is out of cards I own.

I am aware of the mana curve and how it isn't completely ideal, but it's the best I have to work with.

The sideboard is in place as it is to board in different styles of control depending on what you're playing against.

How to Play

A combo I'd like to point out is Ob Nixilis and Maralen. It's an inevitable 13 damage. Kolaghan is an obvious pointer for red black control and was actually the inspiration for this entire deck. Archfiend paired with Nefarox makes for the opponent only having one creature out. Several discardings in here to utilize Waste Not and Liliana's Caress.
With it being a control deck, it should be pretty self explanatory for how to play it.

Deck discussion for B/R Control

*like*
Some things came into my mind when looking at this deck. I would increase the number of "Maralen of the Mornsong" and perhaps "Nefarox, Overlord of Grixis" to 3 or even 4, at last this is your combo you want to win with and every thing else is just backup. Some tutors or additional carddraw could also help to get things working. My favorite here in monoB would be "Read the Bones"
My own discard (and mill) decks feature at last one card I can remove some of my opponents cards even when I don't have anything in my hand. "Scepter of Fugue" was my favorite choice when I did some of my discard decks.

"Ghost Quarter" would be a must have in this deck. "Smallpox" could also be of interest to you instead of e.g. "Geth's Verdict" or "Undercity Plague" (which is rather expensive to play for my feelings)

Red could also help you out with "From the Ashes" but if you want to use another color than red, green would give you "Fertilid", white for "Path to Exile".

Greetings
Muktol

The Ob Nixilis/Maralen combo isn't a win condition, it's just a great contributor I wanted to point out. Read the Bones was a card I looked at and really debated, I felt the deck too slow for it because any life loss might hinder, even if it means the scry and draw 2. But that was something I was actually wanting to implement somehow; it definitely needs more card draw. Scepter of Fugue would be a great addition to the deck, I've never even heard of the card before. I'll need to ask around to see if my friends have any. I might replace two Geth's Verdict with them. With Ghost Quarter's "Then they search they're library..." effect, I don't feel like it'd go well with THIS deck too much but I'm definitely going to make a deck using my Ob Nixilis/Maralen combo because of it, thanks! I like Undercity Plague for it's Cipher effect, but Smallpox would be a good early game addition due to the cost of BB for the same effect. The problem with From the Ashes to me is that the people in my area hardly use nonbasic lands, if any. While it'd be a great addition in areas that do use multi-lands, it's just not for me. I'm the only one I know that regularly uses them.

Thank you for the suggestions, it was really appreciated!
