Deck Description

An updated Satanic Sly deck. I have a National Qualifier coming up this weekend and I will be running this deck. Please help out and let me know what you think and what I may add that may help. Thanks to all.

Ok. updated it a little I removed two fetch lands and added terminate to the main. I really think that durees is a great card for the side board especially against polymorph, but don't know where it would fit. Contaminated ground is a disruptor for jund. it slows them down and helps me too much to lose.

Update 2. Sided the contaminated grounds and added a terminate and blight to main. took out two fetch lands for main lands.

Final update. I did away with the virulent swipe and add kiln fiend. When i test ran the deck against jund there just wasnt a point in it. So i added a permenant creature that pumps hard when i play my socerys and instants. Against jund it worked well finishing them around turn 4 or 5. Thanks to all for the great critism. Greatly appreciated.

Deck discussion for MY SLY

Pure red is much faster than this. Because of Devastating Summons, it can deal lethal damage on turn 3. You also run the risk of not drawing the right mana. Searing blaze is not worth having fetch lands with only one usable color. Honestly, I'd suggest knocking out black and going pure red. Ok i can see your running a burn type deck. First off i have to ask why all the fetch land because the only thing they are good for is searing blaze. But it seems to me you have a bit to many. I would cut back because you don't want to pay unneeded life early in the game, trust me i know this for a fact. Searing blaze is an ok card but also look at it this way - a. searing blaze could end up being a bad card for you doing only 1 damage, b. If you want to use it as a burn i am sure you can find something alittle more useful, - c. if you want it for creature removal there is a few options for it like flame slash and terminate. To me searing blaze is a chance card but if you do keep it take out some of those fetch lands that make you pay life because if you play another burn you are not going to want to be paying life. At least with terramorphic you are not paying life. Contaminated ground is ok but if you put that on an opponents land your opponent might just say screw it and never tap it causing it to be unhelpful, personnally i find that pyromancer ascension of quest for the pure flame can be game winners in no time. I have one a lot of games with those cards against former champion decks like finkles greater good deck. Other than that it seems pretty solid but i deffinitely would cut back on fetch at least to one of each.

I run a similar blightning deck and it does really well against pretty much everything; I agree with big-satch though that u probably don't need the land fetch cards; also I'd swap virulent swipe for Pyroclasm; which is great for neutralizing decks that run a lot of fast and cheap creatures

the unearth abilities of Hell's Thunder, Hellspark Elemental are really good also

get rid of contaminated ground though or add it to ur sideboard if u really want it; it's not necessary in this type of deck; maybe replace it with Duress to get an idea of ur opponent's hand and pick whatever u don't like and is not a creature (eg planeswalker, polymorph, blightning,...) and get rid of it

hey, look, there`s no reason you put Virulent Swipe when all your creatures die at end of turn; rebound will be useless. you must have 4 Goblin Guide and 4 Blightning. i can`t understand , once you`re playing with black, why you don´t put any doom blades, even in side. Contaminated Ground is for side against UW, not for main. 22 lands is few. fetchs help but you could explore more the landfall ability, using plated geopede, for example. see http://www.deckcheck.net/deck.php?id=33260 this deck in my opinion is the best of the genre (before Rise). and i play mono red http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=56971 , take a look if you´re interested. good luck

at first glance i think vidrulent swipe is unnecessary. with only 3 of your 15 creatures being able to live beyond the turn it was played in a 60 card deck swipe is going to have a hard time finding a target. It seems like a dead card to me. contaminated ground is pretty much a dead card as well, its pretty much two slots that could be used up by a fourth goblin guide and blightning. Also, fetch lands arent that useful in this type of a deck unless its playing something like plated geopede. I would suggest either removing fetch lands as there is no need to take an extra damage unless youre going to do some shinanagas with geopede

Keep the land fetch but get rid of all your burn spells, then put a whole lot of one mana cost burn in there like Lava Spike and Shock.

Alternatively, since Kiln Fiend doesn't have trample, you might want to take out the black and add blue bounce spells like Aether Burst and Jilt. If you do that, you can also add Wee Dragonauts which is like Kiln Fiend, except not so powerful and it flies.
