Deck discussion for Mono Black Discard (Legacy)

It looks pretty standard but not really ready for Legacy. There isn't much you can do to stop them from pulling out a creature and combo's will kill you if they go first. You might stop their combo, yes, but most of them if not all can pull the combo out of any card they draw and win in the second turn... So unless you have cards to cancel that then you are basically screwed. Discard decks are some of the hardest to use because the opponent can draw a lucky card. The fetchlands are useful but you only have one type of mana so why are you using them? A good card that WILL screw combo decks completely is the card Surgical extraction which you can cast for a cost of two life to remove target card in a graveyard from play, the you search your opponents deck so you know what the combo is/what their most useful card is, and remove all cards with the same name from the game. Underworld dreams is another good card that deals one damage to your opponent whenever they draw a card (including draw step). And one final piece of advice is to add the land Cabal Coffers and/or Tomb of Yawgmoth.

Gave this advice 1 up on the Surgical Extraction suggestion. Especially in Legacy.

1st turn. Swamp. Dark Ritual. Cast Thoughtseize and Hymn to Tourach/Wrench Mind. Target opponent just discarded 3 cards. You now pay 2 life for Surgical Extraction. You now get to pick one of those 3 cards in your opponent's graveyard (and you probably got one of their best cards with thoughtseize) and remove all copies of it from the game. Huge disruption! You just lost 4 life on your first turn, but your opponent, there is a good chance, just also lost his combo/winning card. Nasty. Nasty. Nasty.

I do not use Cabal Coffers...but I also agree, again, that they are better than your fetchlands.

A friendly advice...I would run Murder instead of Smother. It cost one more mana...but it kills any creature. It is better. There is a newer card that kills any creature or Planeswalker, but not sure of it's name (and I think it is expensive).

Good luck!

And I see that you have Extirpate, again, I think Surgical Extraction is better because if you are tapped out of mana, you can choose to pay 2 life and use the card. It is more versatile.

I like the deck. Keep us updated on how it goes.
