Intresting deck working around the combo and vamps. Seems to me that it could work well since even if the combo goes wrong you can go aggro with the vamps

to be honest, i think the combo actually takes away from the deck. in a vampire agro, your opponent should be just about dead by the time the ascension is activated. and without the ascension, mindcrank just slows down the deck. so even though i understand the point of the deck is the combo, i think the deck would benefit without it. unless, of course, you would like to scrap most of the deck to re-create it to focus more on the combo.
i do hear (read?) what you're saying, and some of it i agree on... It was a quickly thrown together idea, and it could be more focused towards the actual combo, grixis being the colours of choice i think, with black for control, red for dmg, blue for search and draw... but i dont think mindcrank is that much of a deck-slower... i still think it could be devestating even whitout ascenssion... unless they have some serious graveyard retreivel (eldrazi) i can still mill and exile quite a large portion of their deck with mindcrank and ravenous trap... also as magicmyr stated, even without the combo the vamps are a threat in them self... hopefully giving some upper hand, by stressing the opponent by playing the agro side of the deck until ascension and mindcrank kicks in... a worked out sideboard would also help :)
