This is basically an all-rounded control deck that deals with many of the weird, funky decks that you should be facing with the impending big rotation. Counter, kill, counter, kill, drop threat, protect threat... You know how it works. Why splash Red instead of just playing Grixis Control?White is simply better equipped with tools to deal with various threats that Red decks simply cannot deal with, like a turn 5 Carnage Tyrant or enchantments/artifacts.Another reason would be the amount of versatility you can put in your deck with a little splash of Red by your side. While Huatli is dealer's choice, you can always put cards like Abrade or simply bigger creatures at your sideboard. Let's be honest here, guys; control decks are about as fun as being stuck in a traffic jam come Game 3, so a little ingenuity (for me anyways) allows me to just play a control deck with a different play style. Why Nicol Bolas?Just dropping it down and exiling two cards from your opponent's hands even after getting hit by a Contempt will change the entire game. Perhaps even just going for the minus and get off that sweet, sweet lethal that you sorely need is orgasmic enough. Why 3 Fumigates?Dealer's choice too, actually. I feel safer holding a board wipe than holding two Censors, to be honest.
Just think of yourself as a very vulnerable Squirtle that slowly evolves to a Wartortle come Turn 4, then a pretty decent Blastoise come Turn 6. If you are still above 11 to 13 life by then, chances are that you will most probably stabilize the game and manage to win a few turns later. Please comment and tell me what to change! Any constructive criticisms are welcome too, as long as you have an explanation for it. Cheerio!
