Deck discussion for Competitive Sultai

Cut an Empty the Pits for your fourth Sylvan Caryatid. It's a must have playset in these kinds of decks.

Okay sorry, thought me and Jacob would discuss this, didn't know it was yours. I'm going to go over the cards individually and give my thoughts.

Clever Impersonator - Unless you are using it on opponent's permanents I don't see a reason for it. Especially as a 1 of. The creatures of yours you could be copying are just the early games stuff to set up for later such as Caryatid, Courser, Weaver. You won't need to copy this to aid you into getting to late game, rather as a late game card in itself and it doesn't work with your bombs. Sidisi is legendary, Garruk is a planeswalker, Prognostic Sphinx probably won't be your main finisher, and you can't copy Empty the Pits.

Prognostic Sphinx - I am actually a fan of this in the deck. It's a 3/5 that has pseudovigilance that also aids you in delving. Being a 3/5 it can easily attack then block and protect from things such as Sarkhan, Stormbreath Dragon, and pretty much anything else that shows up. On top of that the scry is great, but sadly can't force things into the graveyard.

Rakshasa Deathdealer - Great 2 drop that your always happy to have, even later into the game if you draw it, it is not just a dead card like most 2 drop creatures would be. If this card doesn't work out, sub in Satyr Wayfinder. I think your the guy that told me you don't like him but he's perfect in decks like this.

Sidisi - Fun little card to tinker with, unfortunately he can't protect himself meaning he is easily susceptible to death if you try and trigger his ability through offense. Although if you can bide your time with him and use other things such as Nyx Weaver, then he could easily become a threat without needing to do anything. Kind of a hit and miss card it seems, but if it works for you go ahead and do it.

Sylvan Caryatid - Must have 4 of. Too good of a defender and mana ramp to not have.

Courser of Kruphix - Also a must have 4 of, it helps trim through your deck quicker and allows you to gain some life in the process. Again, another good defender.

Nyx Weaver - Perfect fueler for Sidisi and Emptying your Pits on your opponent. I'd run 3-4 of for utility purposes and I just love it.

Dissolve - Seems a bit meh early game because you need to play other things and tap out or near tap out to do so. Could easily save your life later in the game I suppose. Needs some play testing.

Empty the Pits - Only needed as a 1-2 of because your want to spend so much delve into it to end the game. It completely turns the tides if you can hit it for 5 or 6 zombies.

Murderous Cut - Unfortunately, black removal is a bit lowered in this set so I know you don't have a lot to work with but this would probably be your best bet. 3 of is fine by me. If all else fails you can always hardcast it, unlike some other delve cards it isn't too expensive. If it ends up not working as well as you hope, replace it with Hero's Downfall to deal with pesky planeswalkers running around, and maybe be more mana efficient.

Sultai Charm - A great card because it is so versatile. See how useful it truly is in the meta first though.

Garruk - Seems like a "Win more" card imo. By this I mean he doesn't really get you to win the game, but to just do it because you've pretty much already won. I wouldn't even actually run him, but replace him with a cheaper bomb.

Thoughtseize - Everybody loves hand disruption. Great card.

Lands - If this mana base works for you then go for it. I'm sure you already know, but fetchlands are a necessity if your willing to pay for them.

Overall impression - I enjoy the deck. I only have 1 complaint on it. You aren't running much of anything to put things into the grave quickly, but then again I suppose you aren't running much delve to begin with so it should work out fine as long as things are dying.

Also, do you own all these cards or just having fun on the vault?

Type your deck name...Sultai Empire
Thank you! No, I only have about half of these unfortunately. I do plan on buying this deck ( or rather a better variant after some tweaks) which is why I haven't included things like fetchlands. Basically, it's on here so I could go back and look at it later. I'm starting to become really interested in MTGVault ( despite the fact that my glib-globbing gravatar won't pop up). I mainly have Garruk in here, because Relemin and I both already have him, but in the long run it and clever impersonator ( also because I have a copy) could be swapped out for something more like control or ramp. Maybe even Incrimental Growth. I'm not sure how well it would neccessarily play out with the deck, but hey, it's a great card and would help me solve my Sidisi being killed too easily. Actually, scratch that. Molting snakeskin. A one drop that would boost up the front and regenerate for 3 mana? Pretty fantastic. I would like Relemin's thoughts on here too if he can manage it, just for some more imput.

I'm completely fine with Molting Snakeskin to solve the Sidisi problem. Just bug the piss out of Relemin until he looks at it and gives some feedback. In the meantime, you may want to proxy this deck and see how it plays out. When playtesting a deck, remember to pay attention to it's strengths and weaknesses and imagine if some other cards would come in a lot more of use than others you may have in there. Another card you could possibly consider is Embodiment of Spring. Defender, mana ramp, and delve/Sidisi fuel all in a 1 drop common.
