Standard: $20 Izzet 4 Turn Win

by Memnite on 31 July 2013

Main Deck (60 cards)

Sideboard (15 cards)

Planeswalkers (2)

Submit a list of cards below to bulk import them all into your sideboard. Post one card per line using a format like "4x Birds of Paradise" or "1 Blaze", you can even enter just the card name by itself like "Wrath of God" for single cards.

Deck Description

Use Mizzium Skin, Armed and Teleportal to buff Nivix Cylcops into a 12/6 Hexproof, Double Strike and Unblockable GOD and simply attack for a one shot kill

This is an exclusively goldfish deck (a deck in which you sit around until you know you can win the game in 1 turn). You just want to control the board so you take the least amount of punishment possible before you can 1 shot them with your Cyclops

Here's the 4 turn kill:
Turn 1: Land
Turn 2: Land, Play Goblin Electromancer
Turn 3: Land, Play Nivix Cylcops
Turn 4: Land, Play Mizzium Skin, Armed and Teleportal on Nivix Cyclops
Attack once and win

Did I mention there's no rares in the Main deck?

VERSION 2: NEW AND IMPROVED, MUCH BETTER BUILD:
http://www.mtgvault.com/memnite/decks/standard-izzet4tw-v2-theros/

How to Play

You're going to want to stall until you get the 4 cards for your 1 shot kill combo
These 4 cards are Nivix Cyclops, Mizzium Skin, Armed and Teleportal
Once you get them all out at the same time you basically win
ONLY DROP YOUR COMBO IF YOU KNOW YOU CAN COUNTER ANYTHING YOUR OPPONENT PLAYS TO RESPOND TO IT

Use your 1 mana/2mana control spells (which get cheaper with Goblin Electromancer) to remove any threats
Guttersnipe gives you a plan B of winning and it's 2 damage on every instant/sorcery you cast is actually very strong
Before you do your 1 shot kill combo, try and save a counterspell to counter any of your opponents removal spells
Use Divination to find the last few spells you need to finish your combo

SIDEBOARD:
VS Aggro/Weenie Rush/Tokens:
Take the 2 Izzet Staticasters and 2 Electrickeries
They shut down rushes sooooooo hard.

VS Midrange
Take the 3 Rapid Hybridizations.
You can chump block the 3/3 Frog Token with Nivix Cyclops (he has 4 toughness)

VS Control
Take the 2 Jaces, the 2 Counterfluxes, the 2 Dispels and the 2 Aetherlings
Control will try to stall out even longer than you and try shut down vital parts of your combos
Jace draws their attention away from Nivix Cyclops which is good for you and they wil waste a lot of cards and effort trying to kill him. He also gets much stronger as the game progresses.
Jace's ultimate can be used to draw 20 cards for yourself, and from those 20 cards you will most likely find the 4 key cards for your 1 shot kill combo and 1 counterspell and therefore win the game
Aetherling is a very powerful creature to cast lategame and can win games by itself given enough time.
Counterflux is your no-fail counterspell
Dispel to counter anything they use to try and stop Nivix from attacking on your turn

NOTE:
If you want to build this deck forreal Id add
at least 1 copy of jace or an aetherling
at least 2 counterfluxes
a full set of red/blue shocklands
to the main deck

a deck similar to this took 2nd at a recent SCG open trial in my area. if its built right, it can be amazing. look up the "Nivix Blitz" that is, of course, if you should decide to make it competetive

0

Yeah Izzet Blitz is a superior deck because it has so much draw and Nivix Cyclops and Flashback is OP

But Innistrad is rotating out so...

0

in like 2 months...play whats available now, and plan for rotation. dont play post rotation before you have to.

This is what Nivix Blitz will probably look like after Innistrad rotates anyway

how do I get a negative for saying exactly what you said? I said PLAN for rotation, but PLAY whats available. If there is a better card than what you are running available in standard, then you are doing a disservice to the deck by not using it.

i wonder since you have out goblin if you can cast mizzium skin for its overload for (U)

0
Posted 05 August 2013 at 05:48

Yes. The overload cost is the spell, +extra, to change the from target to each. This means that Goblin Electromancer will let you cast Mizzium Skin for {U} instead of 1{U}

For real? Shitty deck dude...
You can make it better, for sure!
If you want to win at turn 4,why do you added ring of wishes? Why so many lands?
Hidden strings is a nice combo here
Essence scatter? I wouldnt be worried with my opponents creatures. There are better cards that could enter than essence scatter

Try this:

"Turn 4: Land, Play Mizzium Skin, Armed and Teleportal on Nivix Cyclops, Attack once and"
In response: Azorius Charm, Cyclops to the top of your library.
Turn 5: Counter him has you try to replay him. Counter my counter? k.
Turn 6: "Play Mizzium Skin, Armed and Teleportal on Nivix Cyclops, Attack once and"
In response: Tribute to Hunger

When the whole deck relies on 1 combo, control walks all over you.

Even aggro. Boros Reckoner blocks, with first strike. Deal the damage back to the Cyclops. Better yet, Boros Charm, Reckoner is indestructable, deal all the damage to you, you kill YOURSELF on turn 4.

Also, can't play Jace til turn 5, good control decks have stablized by then and would just counter him. No threat. Same with Ætherling. "Counterflux" Only if you play Jace on turn 8 or Ætherling on turn 9. By then, control doesn't care about your Jace OR your Ætherling.

-1
Posted 31 July 2013 at 18:43

Or he could play it smart. Say, armed and teleportal. You play azorius charm, in response he plays mizzium skin. That gives hexproof, charm fizzles, you take 24. Also boros reckoner is good, but he isn't good enough to block an unblockable creature :p

2
Posted 31 July 2013 at 21:48

Tribute to hunger, Ætherize, Away (of far and away), FOG! So many things halt that and then you have to wait for 3 cards before you're ready to strike again and by that time somebody already killed you. All an opponent has to do is hold out for turn 4 and then dissrupt the attack. After that, this deck crumbles.

-1
Posted 31 July 2013 at 22:05

I'm not gonna deny that its easy to stop, but its not as easy to stop as you previously implied. Its not terribly competitive by any means, and like every deck it has bad matchups. But its still worth some praise. It would just be better if you'd actually suggest improvements or ways to make it better instead of only listing reasons why it loses.

2
Posted 31 July 2013 at 23:00

Aetherize is a terrible card just saying

That's the reason I say to hold at least 1 counterspell before you attack

Jesus every deck has it's weakness I could say I can beat the top 8 Gruul Aggro deck with a bunch of fogs and azorius charm too buddy

Do you think Im trying to go pro with this $20 dollar deck?
This is obviously mainly for fun in an FNM environment if anything

replace armed//dangerous with assault strobe. cheaper brings basically the same your creature is now only 11/5 but that shouldnt matter.
also you dont need goblin electromancer any longer for the combo to succeed in the fourth turn.
maybe you can replace it with ponder would make the deck faster.

0

Putting in more pump cards is redundant haha
You only need the ones listed to 1 shot

I really dont like the rings either, 5 to cast, 5 to use but this deck needs a tutor card to find the last piece to your combo to win

He probably wants to keep this deck standard after innistrad rotates out. But if thats not the case then you are right, it is just slightly better for this deck. Also i would like to point out that a sideboard has to be an exact 15 cards, no more no less. So you'll need to add something you don't really need just to make it legal.

0
Posted 02 August 2013 at 02:20

I agree. I've got a similar problem with an infect deck. I CAN win on turn 2, but I don't advertise it as a "turn 2 win deck", I lable it turns 2-5

0
Posted 06 August 2013 at 22:37

I like this deck. One turn after Cyclops comes down and the game is over if they don't answer him right there. If you play first they never get to enough land to aetherize and most decks focus on damage on turn three and four to bother with a defender that most people think is harmless. Even if they do ai. For him red will have trouble without a mizzium mortars or two shocks so a doom blade from black would be one of the few answers In Competitive standard that would take him out.

1
Posted 31 July 2013 at 23:14

I reckon I'm just going to put in dispels just so I can counter that 1 card that they use to try and shut down Nivix before he attacks

0
Posted 01 August 2013 at 00:46

Dispel is definitely a good way to keep kill spells out of the way for that one turn you need to bring them down. And its probably not the only answer they have but it is the one you're most likely to encounter at that point in the game.

0
Posted 01 August 2013 at 01:23

I would run dissipates or counterflux instead of essence scatter and negates. Also some draw might help since you need to get to the cards you need to win like think twice or quicken. quicken also makes your 2 sorceries instants. another nice card could be nivmagus elemental. he is a one drop plus if they somehow counter one of your win condition spells you can just exile it and buff him. he also meshes will with guttersnipe and maybe fling. Fling is also pretty nice cause it buffs cyclops more and you can use it as a fail safe incase they blow it up. it

0
Posted 31 July 2013 at 23:24

The thing is, with electromancer out both essence scatter and negate only cost 1 blue to cast
Yea I want to get more draw in here too but all the draw cards in standard are costly in terms of mana
Nivmagus is a good choice, i'll put it in the side deck

0
Posted 01 August 2013 at 00:48

Thats true. instead of jace, i'd put in quicken or alchemy raiders. both decent budget draw cards. you would only need jace for his draw ability but its not worth 5 mana to do it if you wanna win the game sooner. plus they go will with cyclops and nivmagus and guttersnipe

0
Posted 02 August 2013 at 02:30

correction, alchemy raiders doesnt mesh well with the others but its either that or wild guess but thats 2r

0
Posted 02 August 2013 at 02:32

Cool, fun, deck idea Memnite! Do you think artful dodge would be better for you than teleportal? Simply because you only ever want your cyclops crashing into the red zone, you'll still be doing 22 damage, so still 1 hit KO. Over all though, good stuff, I will definitely be putting this bad boy together.

1
Posted 01 August 2013 at 01:00

Hey thanks man, it's true arftul dodge is waaaaay better than teleportal but because I want the deck to be in standard after innistrad rotates I'm only using cards from Ravnica and M14

If you do want to play the deck with Innistrad cards in it (which i think is a much better version because Innistrad has really cheap ass draw cards which this deck loves, and it also has lots of spells with flashback)
Heres a link to a budget "Izzet Blitz" (you can also find the first version on the same website)
http://www.channelfireball.com/articles/woo-brews-izzet-blitz-updated-and-budgeted/

I would still use Artful Dodge until rotation. its just too good in this deck.

0
Posted 01 August 2013 at 02:29

If i wanted to play this deck properly with the inistrad block id just copy the izzet blitz decklist because the flashback and draw in that list is far more powerful than anything that m14 offers

0
Posted 01 August 2013 at 04:00

You say its not competitive... it is, with a few non-expensive tweaks it would be playable at GPs and PTQs. In fact I saw this deck at a PTQ in Chelmsford (UK) and it was doing pretty well. Nivix aggro is really powerful, I'd drop some of the more controlish cards and definatly not put in memory adept, put in cheap cantrips like quicken just to get your cyclops extra pumped and able to win without double strike.

0
Posted 01 August 2013 at 10:27

Deck relies too heavily on Cyclops combo not to run controlly cards
the deck you saw was probably a variant of Izzet Blitz which is a far greater build because you have the cheap draw and flashback effects that the Innistrad block offers

0

Ye fair comment but I like the double strike idea

0

I've been running a deck very similar to this using NIvix cyclops and wandering wolves as my win cons, plus artful dodge is better for the cyclops as it boosts it by +6 if you play it and flash it back plus it has double use if you have the pump spells which aren't armed, also get rid of the ring, its 10 mana before you get a card and since your trying to win on turn 4 wouldn't it be better to just make it more reliable

Remove the Counter Magic for Hidden strings and Artful dodge and run more burn. This deck lacks the efficiency that Izzet Blitz usually has I recommend you look up some other versions of this deck. And don't try and do it for 20 bucks because There is no such thing as A standard budget deck, the cheapest you can get is mono- red Burn. But even that is $50.00. Good luck with the deck and take my advice.

I just want to state that the only reason he runs fetchlands is for landfall triggers and to thin his deck so he can draw more threats. So his deck would be worse without fetches. Even if you used terramorphics you lose out because they come into play tapepd and WW is about trying to kill quickly. If he wants to make his deck post rotation let him. It might not make much sense but he is preparing for the rotation and there's good reason to do that. He doesn't want to invest in cards he will only play until september.

1
Posted 02 August 2013 at 01:34

I am prepared I have a deck list and the replacement cards set aside for the rotation ahead of time but will not render my deck susceptible to decks that contain the older cards. And thank you for supporting the facts about the fetch lands. Unfortunately good players are found a dime a dozen on this site, and people don't like good players like ourselves telling the truth about their decks they just want people giving them a pat on the back for their creation.

0
Posted 02 August 2013 at 01:40

Yeah the final complete URW cyclops deck that t woo made does use alot more expensive cards and is extremely potent. But geists, sulfur falls, snapcasters, etc are rotating out and there is no reason to add them in with theros looming. So I see the reasoning for not wanting to add cards from innis and just waiting for theros.

There we have a disagreement powerhouse cards like Geist and Snapcaster decide games. Not having those greater your chance of loss. For Example I would never run Archeomancer over Snapcaster Mage just because of the approaching cycle.

0
Posted 02 August 2013 at 01:54

The problem is him not having them. I for example have all the staples from innistrad so it would be stupid for me to not use them. However if i wanted to play a jund deck I would be hard pressed to do it unless I had huntmasters lilianas, garuuks etc. If I didn't have them I would not even bother with rotation looming. If you have them then by all means. He probably doesn't have those cards you mentioned so why waste time if he wants to play standard. Also who is to say he doesn't have a deck with those cards already in and this is just his skeleton for post rotation?

If you read the article you could've just run plains and other powerful 1 drops like elitevanguard/ardent recruit instead of lynx/fetches
yeah they're nowhere near as powerful as a landfall'd steppe lynx but the deck can still function very well without them; they aren't essential to the strategy

You pretty much stated why they are in there though. They aren't as powerful. Lynx can do 4 or more damage depending on how you hold your fetches in a course of a game. With the equipment it would be double that. Of course you can play white weenie without lynx and fetches but the only other one drops with that kind of power are isamaru and savannah lion. Their damage will always be 2 and not something like 3 or 5 damage. The equipment also falls off without fetches. You could fix that by adding other powerful equipment like swords or batterskull but those are even more expensive aren't they? Also if his deck didn't have fetches or lynxes and changed the equipment I guarantee he wouldn't have gone 15-5. Those cards were in there for a reason.

Fetch lands are vital in that deck the entire strategy would change if there were no fetch lands.

Yes but the deck would still remain competitive without steppe lynx and fetches
Also the main wincon of WW quest cry is through argentum armour on a flier like ornithopter/skyfisher/glinthawk

Ever heard of diversified threats? If you have a lynx and fetches and an armor on a flyer the opponent is forced to choose what to deal with. His deck had multiple ways of winning it wasn't just based on quest. Those glint hawks probably dealt damage to kill off the opponent as well. I say it again if he had changed his deck he wouldn't have gotten the same results. There's a reason fetchland is expensive and why landfall was a stupid mechanic with them in place. Look at any of the boros decks that ran the same concept. It might be a plan B but it's a really damn good plan B.

On a side note I love how I am getting downvoted for disagreeing with you despite I have yet to even insult you or your deck. I even gave reasoning on why you were choosing to not add cards that were rotating out. I guess I am elitist for trying to use facts to explain things instead of insulting. what's funny is though if you see most of the comments a ton of people have stated the same thing over and over in your deck and you are still refusing to do anything about it. Doesn't that make you elitist since you think you are above anyone's advice even people who are trying to help in a non insulting manner?

Dude..You still didnt take that fucking ring of wishes out. That card doesnt do shit!
Everybody said it to you and it took 100 comments for you taking it out.

The original Izzet Blitz deck by travis woo doesn't even run hidden strings because it has a full playset of artful dodge. Hidden string is bad choice too especially because you're running so many flashback cards you dont even need the cipher proc. need i remind you that cipher only procs when you deal combat damage too so you can only tap blockers afterwards when you''re already past the combat stage as well as that Hidden strings isnt even instant speed.

You really dont understand this card, right?
You think that when u cast it, it will only resolve when I attack and sucessfuly damage my oponent? I cant believe how people are...
Ok, let me explain it to you:
You cast it. If you oponents doesnt counter it, you can tap/untap 2 permanents. THEN u cipher it. You attack, if you do dmg, u cast it for free and tap/untap 2 another permanents.
Is that dificult?

You must not be trying as hard as you say you are to be respectful then...just accept that some people will decline your advice and when they do decline, don't be a dick about...I don't say that simply to use profanity or insult, it's just the best way I can describe the attitude that's coming across. Calling yourself a teacher and a pro does sound incredibly pious. Sorry to burst your bubble, but this isn't a pro tour. It's a forum of EQUAL players with varying intentions and skill levels, and they don't all play the game the same way you do. So please, if you want to be respected, stop acting like you're better than everybody else. Be an equal, be a member of the community, be helpful, just don't be rude or condescening about it.

@Aliski
What is the point of tapping permanents when my goal is to finish the game 1 one attack with an unblockable creature (unblockable given from teleportal)
My opponent will be dead as soon as i deal combat damage so I won't make use of the cipher proc

Sorry for the truth, but here it comes. Others besides me have made the same comment remove the counter magic and add more aggressive cards. The counter magic is a bad way to play this deck you are better off playing it like everyone else "Aggro". The Expensive $100+ Control deck will win everytime. unless you race them. letting them sit there will only allow them to gain fuel to kill you. if you wait out the match. they will drop AEtherling and you will not be able to stop it. don't reply and say the counter magic is to stop AEtherling. because you will never win the counter war against a control deck.

0
Posted 02 August 2013 at 06:09

the countermagic is there MAINLY to ensure that nivix cyclops can attack for lethal without being countered or dying to removal

I think this deck NEEDS countermagic because it relies on the 4 card combo to succeed without being disrupted by the enemy

If i take it all out it would be a COMPLETELY different deck, a deck that you are very much welcome to make yourself.

THE FUCKING POINT IS THAT U CAN FUCKING TAP 2 FUCKING LANDS AND FUCKING CAST IT FOR FUCKING FREE FUCKS!!!!!! FUCK DUDE...U CAN'T UNDERSTAND THAT?

U wont need the cipher shit, u just use it because its free to play, that means that your cyclops will gain 3 power and you will still have 2 lands to make others spell. Or you can even tap your oponents lands, assuring that he can't counter cause he wont have any lands to cast a counterspell.

And by the way, uncovered clues sucks

I really like this deck, its good to have some inexpensive options for FNM.

For my version I would just do the following changes:
-2 Ring of Three Wishes +2 Uncovered Clues
-3 Negate +3 Dispel
-4 Goblin Electromancer + 4 Young Pyromancer
-1 island +1 Rogue's passage

I like the first 2 suggestions but young pyromancer is a bit too slow for my taste
The 1/1 tokens don't really do that much (yes they can chump block but I can just counter anything that they play or burn it)

if you compare him with the cyclops or the guttersnipe he is really slow indeed, but nevertheless is able to do more damage than the electromancer and as you pointed out you can use the elementals to chump block and protect yourself meanwhile you get the combo :).

The deck I had the greatest success with in the FNM scene was Frank Karsten's WW QuestCry back in the Zendikar Block (albeit it was a budgeted version - no fetches and Ardent Recruits (basically 1 to cast 3/3) instead of Steppe Lynxes).
So my arguements above were part of personal experience, I'm not making this stuff up.
I remember steamrolling my friend who played black/red vampires (one of the stronger decks in the competitive Zendikar Meta) over and over again even though he had spent waaaaaaaaaay more money than I did (his full playset of bloodghasts were worth twice my deck).

Memnite was one of my favourite cards in the deck. I loved it's art and to me it represented the pinnacle of mana efficiency
0 to cast 1/1 OP MAN!!!

Also, shameless self promotion...

So far my draw options are: quicken, uncovered clues/divination and inaction injunction (i think inaction injunction is a better version of prophetic prism)
I don't really like wild guess because you gotta discard and it costs 2 red (2 red is a bit fiddly to make)

quicken is nice becaues it's a 1 to cast draw a card but it's second effect isn't all that useful
As it stands id rather pick uncovered clues/divination/inaction injunction
so i picked uncovered clues :P

As much as I like casual 1-hit KO ideas, here's the problem: How do you expect to get all those cards in your hand all in 4 turns? Think, in 4 turns, you need Goblin Electromancer, Nivix Cyclops, Mizzium Skin, Teleportal, and Armed / Dangerous. Maybe there was something in the description I forgot to read, but still your plan is still to get this combo on turn 4 right? Still, I like the idea. This deck has a lot of aggro-hate, such as shock, Essence Scatter, etc. So you don't expect to get this out on turn 4, you stall and then you do it? Anyway, There's Uncovering Clues, which I do like in the deck. Maybe run a 4th because you need your instants faster against aggro.

I posted a similar Modern Deck two months ago that just takes all the cards from your combo and gives them Modern duplicates so you consistently win by turn 5 and before. It has won me tournaments. I just use 4 Kiln Fiend, 4 Nivix Cycolps, 4 Artful Dodge, 4 Distortion Strike, 4 Armed, and 4 Assault Strobe. I eventually just took the deck down because nobody actually liked it.

I'm not saying your a poser, it's simply regrettable that someone else had the same idea as I did and got 90 more likes than mine.

Ajani has two white in his mana costs. You would have to get a Temple Garden out first if you want both Elvish Mystic and Ajani. Also, what is the point your comment is trying to make?

Turn 1 Elvish Mystic (G)
Turn 2 Ajani 1(W)(W)
I know you're running multicolour lands but Ajani cost double white (and also battledriver cost double red)

idk if you can get them straight out especially because of your mana base (a lot of your lands come into play tapped that early in the game)

how much is ajani, battle driver and kalonian hydra again?

I did not wanted to make any point with my comment... ...I'm tired today & I rarely visited this site in the past couple of months...

You are right about the Temple Garden issue, but about once in 12 opening hands, I have the combo ready... ...& if not, or the lands does not come in the right order, than I'll finish in turn 5, may be 6 (if I can)...

I'm not saying, that I've made a good deck, nor a cheap one, though the whole thing is not expensive & I have all the cards... ...I've reacently lost passion for deckbuilding, because I feel like I've done what I wanted 'til the next block starts coming out...

In 2 years, this is the 1st comment I've made that doesn't offer any suggestions &/or contain personal & objective opinion... ...& I'm sory for that.......

something troubles me, the text "And can attack this turn as though it doesnt have defender" part, does that mean you can declare him attacking at the same turn you dropped him if you cast an instant or sorc that same turn? the card doesnt say, it gains haste or something. but just thinking.

0
Posted 15 August 2013 at 16:17

No, normal summoning sikness rules apply. The text is also another way of saying "loses defender for the turn". Since there is no mention of haste, then there is obiviously no way that it can attack without a haste spell

Love the deck mate - looks a real solid build for post-rotation ! The one thing I would say is that the Guttersnipe does disrupt tempo, especially if you can't flashback spells anymore when the likes of Faithless Looting/Artful Dodge roll out. Fluxcharger has been incredibly powerful in testing and has turned games on their heads in a single swing.

Check out my current build here http://www.mtgvault.com/buzzgsc/decks/nivix-rocket-ru/

You don't have to add it, but I think that some people have thought about it

0

I'd keep both to be honest - when you're reducing casting cost withe the electromancer you need lands to have U or R available to ensure everything for the combo can be cast without fail - I'd run 4 steam vents and 4 guildgates

0
Posted 08 August 2013 at 00:23

I hear that. Too many times have I been screwed over because I didn't have the correct types of mana. I believe that that's what the dual lands are for, but the're SO expensive

0

I found the same - i run 4 steam vents, 4 sulfur falls, 4 guildgates and 2 desolate lighthouse in my list and haven't had any problems since switching that :) http://www.mtgvault.com/buzzgsc/decks/nivix-rocket-ru/

0

Guildgates really throw off the mana curve if you're relying on Goblin Electromancer.
You want to turn 1 Faithless Looting, then have nothing to do turn 2 so you can place the guildgate.

0
Posted 08 August 2013 at 01:08

Not if you're only two CMC card in hand is something like Armed//Dangerous - it can set up for turn three or otherwise be looted later on.
Yes you want to turn 1 faithless looting into turn 2 electromancer, but that exact play will only happen in around 1 in four hands, so you need alternatives - Ie either gates or up the izzet charms (for looting).

Would seem like a really fun deck to play. I myself enjoy combo decks most of all. I even plan on buying the decklist so I can try it out. It takes a lot of experience in the game to actually build such a successful deck off a couple $10 bills.

I'm the same way when it comes to planning ahead. I hate procrastinating :) So I start early. One last thing I'd like to point out is you're probably going to be able to improve this deck a fair bit when Theros comes out (providing they release some cards that work well with it). Should be really fun to tweek and play then too!

Great deck, i just see problems with handling aggro. Sure you could use the staticasters, but I have played against a deck similar to this one. The problem is there are better aggro and blitz decks that hold up on high creature amounts. I drew several sample hands and a few times mulled to 3 to finally see the cyclops. The key is aggro is creature count. Yes the spells for the unblockable and pump ups help, there are just better approaches.

Overall this deck is one kickass aggro budget, don't expect it to win many FNMs, but you may make your friends butt-hurt at your kitchen table.

0
Posted 14 August 2013 at 02:24

Sadly I disagree with part of your assessment because I won an FNM the first time I played it there. People are not expecting it, they let the electromancer and cyclops walk. The issue is you only get the big combo out in 25% of the games. Usually I end up countering them to death until Gutterspine dwindles them down. I also added a Jace and 2xCounterflux to the main deck and an aetherling to the SB.(took out the shocks and placed them in the SB)

I've been messing with the deck and have been trying it with an Epic Experiment thrown in. I have found it to be a nice "hail mary" out. If you have a few Electromancers on the board it's even better but even if you get it off for X=3 it can still hit the Teleportal or Mizium Skin you may not have in your hand to finish them off. I was considered even using it to replace uncovered clues all together or the Essense Scatters. It is a "Mythic" but a very affordable one and I think fits the bang or bust nature of the deck. I also was considering a green splash with giant growths or rangers guiles to protect more from removal.

0

Yeah, great idea.....I would SB 2-3 of them and swap them for the uncovered clues....because they could essentially have the same effect only "better".

In the Main Deck I replaced the shocks with 1x Jace, 2x counterfluxes and 1x Izzet charm(another one didn't hurt :P). My Sideboard currently looks like this- 1x Jace, 2x Aetherling,1x negate,2x dispel,4x Izzet staticaster,1x uncovered clues,2x Skullcrack,2xEpic Experiment.....this deck is prett fun and highly competative for a budget gamer. I did well even before I made the slight changes.

There's a lot of comments, so this may have been said already but maybe instead of shocks you could add Dynacharge? Even if you're not getting one of your Nivix Cyclops which I've seen be a problem with decks like this (I made one myself), you could use Dynacharge, Armed and Teleportal on Goblin Electromancer or Guttersnipe to make them a 6/2 double striker.

If you had Guttersnipe out, you would deal 2 damage for each of those spells, so plus the 12 damage from attacking your opponent would have to take 18 damage that turn. If you hold out for enough mana to play Negate as well, you deal the full 20. That way it'd be a bit less reliant on Nivix Cyclops. Just a thought. Blistercoil Weird would be a decent 1-drop too. If you played those 3 spells on it, it'd be an 8/4 double-striker dealing 16 damage a turn (+1 from Armed, 1 from Teleportal, 1 from each spell as per Blistercoil Weird's ability and +2 from Dynacharge).

With the speed of this deck, I would recommend taking out the Essence Scatters and get 2 more Negates or Dispels. You're probably more worried about counters and removals on your creatures than your opponent casting a creature themselves. You just need 1 or 2 good hits.

0
Posted 23 August 2013 at 07:40

I like the suggestions with taking out essence scatter and putting in more negates/dispels so i've changed the deck a bit
people have mentioned blistercoil weird but im not sure what to take out for that

im not really feeling dynacharge though mostly because my opponent can block the damage if i swing with anything other than nivix

No agreed but it is annoying when you're trying to find something and you get irrelevant results cause if out dated tags. Might need to suggest to the site that format tags check to see if the deck is legal in that format and self correct.

Oh I'm not saying have it automatically past the tags, just simply remove the tags if the deck isn't legal in that format.
