Deck Description

This is meant to be my entry deck into the Modern format. I built it from my personal idea of efficiency and card advantage before looking into the metagame. Then of course I did a bit of homework, made adjustments and built the sideboard.

How to Play

1- Play creatures

Deck discussion for Endless Mutilation

Little thing with grave crawler.
If you have mutavaults you can activate mutavault and then return crawler from the GY.

Indeed; I used to run 3 Mutavaults in this deck, but they often ended up crippling my starting hand from a much needed first turn red mana. I opted for Cavern of Souls instead because they do not have this downfall.

Do you have a suggestion on how to integrate the Mutavaults without causing mana screw?

If you were going to integrate Mutavault you would probably have to add fetches replacing your check land and your filter land and maybe 2 less crypts as your 3-4 fetches really count as 2-6 crypts if you have 2 crypts in your deck still.

vengvine, nice. smallpox is good, verdant catacombs and arid mesa's. fetch in the shocks, or just a swamp/mountain as needed. manlands are very helpful in here

The reason I didn't say mesa is because if for some freak reason someone sides in blood moon vs this deck its really more important to have the swamp fetch as everything will be mountains.
Also nothing in the deck has a RR cost so really after 1 crypt or mountain all you need is swamps, sure a second mountain would be nice vs any non-blood moon deck, but in that case just get another crypt

blood moon in? well i guess thats a good reason for no mesa, makes sense

Thanks V., that is more or less the build I used to have (Mutavaults and Verdant Cats) but my initial hands often lacked the red mana needed for turn 1 Vexing Devil or Goblin Guide; maybe I was just Unlucky?

I agree that Man Lands can be an edge when a game stretches after a board/gy wipe; I'll try a few changes.

Well the turn 1 verdant can still grab you a red source through blood crypt you just need to bolt youself to get in untapped t1.
You do only have 19 lands so that could also be a factor, even with that curve 20 might just be optimal.

With Bloodstained Mire returning to Modern the change is now more obvious; a long needed buff for Rakdos guild in this format!

This looks sweet. I wouldn't mind seeing a little more discard though. I'm not sure Rakdos charm is good enough for 3 maindeck. It's decent against a few decks, and I like that it pretty much just kills Twin, but i still think i would rather have some more discard instead.

Thank you for your comment!

I used to have the charms in the SB, but it seemed I was always siding them in after game one, either against Twin, Dredge, Affinity or just to manage a Batterskull. I get what you're saying though, in my original build I was running Blightning instead; I would consider putting them back in.

What would you lose from the SB to make room for the 3 Rakdos Charms?

This is a pretty neat deck. Lots of variety and flexibility with all sorts of graveyard tricks and burn. Seems to embody the spirit of Rakdos well. How well have you done with it thus far?

Thank you!

I have only played it in one sanctioned event and finished second; I lost to Infect due to a misplay on my part.

I am really looking forward to give it more mileage, just too busy with work right now.

Awesome deck. I just suggest to put Geralf's Messenger instead Faithless Looting. Your mana curve allow you add some heavy cards and Geralf's Messenger is a good sinergy with Gravecrawler

Thank you! I did use to have a few Geralf's Messengers in there but they gave way to Vengevines. Faithless Looting is the cornerstone of this deck, it gets Bloodghast and Vengevine in the graveyard to allow them to be cast for free while refilling my hand. To replay the Gravecrawlers I usually rely on Mutavault.
