Deck discussion for Turn 2 win infect

this is really nasty, i saw you get 10 poison counters onto someone on turn 2, pity it was a 6 man free for all, but still absolutely nasty

should have seen it later, 2-headed and I did 16 poison counters turn four after a lightning bolt 2 pyroclasms and Ben got primeval titan turn 2

hahaha, your deck is utterly savage, although it would struggle against something with a lot of control, and really???? how did he manage that?

thats what i need help with is winning against control decks because i can only get so many poison counters before its to late

I think this deck is brilliant. Looks like it would have a tough time surviving in multi-player though.

I agree. 1v1 this kills it... It has pretty ridiculous speed (everything's so cheap!); though you'd probably run into some problems against blue but that's neither here nor there. I like your sideboard too.

well if I am playing with any sort of infect I'm all right, I can still pull 16 counters turn 3 or 4.

0

I have worked against and with this deck in multi-player, and it still has the ability to finish the game REALLY FAST. However, the chances of somebody having a kill spell or mental misstep are considerably higher, and so this deck relies alot more on what the opponents are using.

I think world at war would be awesome in this. Also teetering peaks and smoldering spires if you can fit them in the mana base

0

The problem with the spires and peaks is that they come in tapped and so slows me down which isn't what I want really

Does tunneler work with the creature buffs? E.g. you play elf, you groundswell him, you tap tunneler, when it came time for tunneler to resolve he wouldn't be a 2 or less anymore. But all in all a good take on an increasingly common concept.

0
Posted 03 June 2011 at 13:50

Yes I just have to wait for the tunnelers ability to resolve before buffing, the tunnelers hinderence only affects the targeting of the ability not the abilities resolution

0
Posted 03 June 2011 at 15:47

how does the tunnelers effect work when it makes the creature unblockable for the whole turn. i'm pretty sure this doesn't work because at any point in the turn if the creatures power is greater then 2 he is able to be blocked.
but the deck would work even better if u added some blue and add the card that makes your creature unblockable plus its only mana cost 1. or try using triumph of the hordes (trample=game)

0
Posted 03 June 2011 at 23:17

no it does

0
Posted 04 June 2011 at 09:26

the way it works is u would activate tunneler during main phase, end main phase, his effect still resolves, thats over. then battle phase damage calculation u activate buffs. since its consistent at different phase the abilities wont over ride one another.

What about Viridian Corrupter on Blight Mamba or eventually Postmortem Lunge on Noxious Revival?
SB is like perfect, maybe Marrow Shards on Corrosive Gale, but that would hurt...

0

you can also do it with glistner elf mutagenic growths and giant growths

0
Posted 03 June 2011 at 17:02

Blight Mamba seems like the odd man out here, I would replace it with any of the better 2 cmc infecters.

I would suggest Necropede, though Ichorclaw Myr could work as well.

0
Posted 03 June 2011 at 17:57

true, but the thing it with blight mamba you have something with a bit more long term stability in the fight to. your not gonna win turn 2-3 every time so its nice to have a creature that you can keep around and still help get the job done

ur glistener and tunneler combo is impossible to pull of on turn 2 with ur decks current set up u could do a turn 2 win with 2 giant growths and 2 mutagenic growths but thas about it for ur second turn win and even then its shakey due to the facct that its very rare for u to get one glistener 2 giant growths 2 green producing lands and 2 mutagenic growth and then for you opponent to not try and counter or block just simply not likely going to happen

0
Posted 04 June 2011 at 03:03

Try Two mana (one green and one red, or better, copperline gorges) an assault strobe, the elf, and mutagenic growths/groundswell. Between 5 and 6 cards. Tougher, but not unreasonable.

0

the glistener turn 2 is if they've got no creatures turn 3 win is with the tunneler or flame slashes on the creatures if they've got any, the tunnler isn't invloved in the turn 2 win you should've read the actual points of the win

His deck is built for standard, yours is not. It's not a worthy comparison. On top of that, the earliest you have an answer for anything he does is turn two, and if he's on the play, you have no response at all. So it's actually reasonably plausible for his deck to turn two infect win, even against the deck you listed.

0
Posted 04 June 2011 at 20:26

also if your running legacy infect, you should be able to mono black accelerate you opponent turn 2 for game. its pretty simple when u run immolation souleater

0
Posted 05 June 2011 at 09:49

Congratulations!

I knew this deck had potential, but i think you could still make it a bit faster by adding green sun's zenith

Why? because you don't have enough creatures: when playing against this deck, destroying one creature can bring your whole game tumbling down, whereas with a 2 cost re-usable spell you can search for your glistner elfs and the like.

Well done

haha, archenemy and you said this deck was really not very good only a few days ago, but yeah matthias, congrats on getting a deck onto the home page :)

0

If it wasn't for the fatal flaw that one kill spell on turn one or maybe two will destroy this deck's entire early game, yes. None the less it is fast, and against slower or creatureless decks playing it is as good as a win!

The deck packs flame slashes for that very reason. Flame slash deals with most heavy body turn two drops (wall of omens, spellskite, etc) and spellskite isn't useful as an answer to something already targeting it. On top of that, even if you get a turn two spellskite, you could still be in for a loss. Two copperline gorges fuel the deck with the mana it needs to win regardless. Turn one for the elf, turn two for a slash to deal with the spellskite and a strobe/mutagenic growth combo for the win regardless. On top of that, his board packs a set of nature's claims. Both are easy replies to the spellskite that let a turn two win happen.

@ mirnack - What decks are being run to win tourneys? Hmm, Caw-blade, Naya, Valakut (ugh), Vengevine, Twincombo... much, much less infect-centered decks actually win.

I really do like this deck, and the fact that it could feasibly kill on turn 2 is awesome, but now that Mental Misstep is out, ANY deck can laugh it off for 2 life (which won't matter anyway if you're playing against infect.) Mental Misstep, Mana Leak, Spell Pierce, Doom Blade, Go for the Throat, Melira, etc. etc. etc.

My friend likes to play a casual turn 3 win infect deck (Kiln, Tainted Strike, Assault Strobe, god these cards have become popular) and it never fires off. There are just way too many reactive cards to think so narrowly about the win conditions in your deck.

Like I said before though, bravo MathiasT for the possible turn 2 win!

0

This deck could sb mental misstep if it started having problems with mental missteps. If the opponent has to save mana for counters every turn then they will have some serious trouble dealing with anything you do get out since they can't play anything and have mana for counters. Any turn a control deck is tapped out to play a something could be enough for a kill.

I played in a tcq i top got 7th in, and went 5-1, i lost to a glistner elf blue (for unblockable sorcery thing, and blighted agent) infect deck.

I think blue might be the way to go here, if nothing elf for vapor snag and what not.

also, the guy ran like 12 tap - sac lands, and adventuring gear, which was a nice choice.

I've been using this deck (I'm calling it Infectious Weenies) to test my own standard deck (http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=193810) based off Ajani's Pridemates. So far I've been able to fine tune mine to win at a little bit better than a fifty or sixty percent clip.

This deck crumples sometimes when you only draw one or two of the weenies. A Condemn can set you back two or more turns (you'll lose your critter and your instants). As it's constructed right now it is dangerous, but a bit of a fair weather deck.

With that said, there have been plenty of games where this weenies were down to four life, drew a giant growth and put Ajani away. My deck is weak against flying, which your nexuses exploit, and the tunneler definitely gives you the potential to win when the going gets tough.

This looks like a cool deck, but i think you could switch noxious revival out for something else, maybe more removal, and the blight mamba for a necropede, since it seems unlikely you will ever have enough mana to use the regeneration anyways.

pretty suit deck you got here,
i have two things, one like someone already said i think you could use one or two more creatures such as rot wolf or something.
secondly any sweep, like black sun or massacre wurm would annihilate you late game. i have no ideas currently on how to prevent that but you might whant to cjeck that out. sweeps only work if the persons still alive and you deck looks like it will take care of almost any opponent very quickly :)

this is definitly a deck well done and hey do you think that you could take a look at my u/b control-infect deck , ive been running infect ever sinse it came out but i just made this new deck cause i got fustrated of running green/black buff.

adding to what natester said about late removal from black sun and massacre wurm maybe sb some corrupted resolves? i mean by that time they should be infected and have poison counters and it's a 1 colorless 1 blue counterspell at that point just my thought

i have built this deck and i like it played it online and irl vs a strong mono black deck that i play against at my regular fnm's and i stomped it np the only problem i had was if i draw 7 and come up short of or with no creatures and don't mull then you'll lose so having creatures to start out with is very important i do agree maybe some more main creatures would protect this a little bit more or go witht he idea of green sun's zenith over something else in it great deck keep them coming!
