Deck Description

Comments appreciated!

Budget deck I use for casual play, have been getting great results and it's just stupendous in multiplayer. I also have mono-white and mono-black versions posted, the white more polished (and amply tested) than the black. Mono-white is a beast in multiplayer.

I know it would be improved by having: Mother of Runes, Grand Abolisher, Ethersworn Canonists... But then it wouldn't be very budgety.

A notable variation is going the way of damage prevention instead of lifegain (mono-white can do both, but it's not as effective in my experience). That would mean:
Battlefield Cleric + Beacon of Destiny + Master Apothecary (www is harsh for w/b) + Daunting Defender and stuff like Beloved Chaplains... Keeping you and your clerics alive in a most annoying fashion. Threats would then be Doubtless Ones, Profane Prayers, Vile Deacons... But that's a different deck. I'll post that version in time, when I get around to adquiring Mother of Runes.

How to Play

Plenty of clerics die in the process of playing this deck, and that's ok. Besides getting them back from graveyards, I will in fact often sacrifice or get them killed on for morbid, ETB lifegain or the Priest of Penance's farewell gifts.

Worth noting:
The lifegain is Significant... Especially in multiplayer and vs creature-heavy decks.
Pridemates get ridiculously big, even with a single Soul Warden/Attendant in play.
Rotlung Reanimators + Conspiracy set to clerics is a great combo.
Hardly anyone will block weenies when you have an untapped Skirsdag High Priest...
Suture Priests don't get tired, and punish constant chump blocking.
And then there's all that creature killing...

Noted weaknesses:
This version of the deck won't like facing burn :(
Like any creature- (and tribe-) based deck, black control and board wipes in general will be... bad. Disentombing and generally keeping a couple of clerics in your hand add some resilience, but there's not much this can do vs Dread of Night or repeated Wraths, Rains of Embers, Infests, Mutilates... Then again, few weeny decks can.

Mother of Runes, Grand Abolisher and Ethersworn Canonist are all out for now due to their $ cost, this is quite budget (most expensive would be Rotlungs and Pridemates). All 3 would have a place here.
Leonin Relic Warder I own and I've just replaced them with Nova Clerics on the sideboard, mostly for 1) the ww cost and 2) with Rotlungs, morbid, ETB lifegain and all the disentombing I don't much mind Clerics dying, but the Relic-warder would leave its "victim" on the board for the whole of the opponent's turn. Still playtesting this change though.
Beacon of Destiny + Battlefield Medic + Master Apothecary (+ Daunting Defender) would be for a variant I'll describe in the description in just a bit.

You need doubltess one's! lol. Also consider whipgrass entangler, battlefield medic, profane prayers, edgewalker and daru spiritualist. There are many other good black/white clerics but those ones I think are pretty important to consider. Just my opinion. :)

Doubtless Ones play astronomically weaker than the outlandish Pridemates with the Soul Warden-ish effects here. Even without Cabal Archons this deck is still built around a lot of clerics dying (high priests of penance, novas, starlit sanctums, morbid, rotlungs, disentombing galore), unless I get a Conspiracy out the Doubtless Ones don't get that big. I'me still tweaking and testing, but would probably rather take 2 extra Soul Wardens or Boneknitters before them. And Doubtless Ones > Profane Prayers.

I'm going to get me some Whipgrass Entanglers! How did I miss that one?
I play Daru Spiritualists and Lightning Greaves for the infinite life combo in the mono-white version (now public). I don't really need edgewalkers atm, it's not uncommon for me to be topdecking after half a dozen turns as it is.

Caverns are too expensive, but True Believers will be in my sideboard as soon as burn shows up in my metagame :)
