Scared of Ghosts? Here ya' go... Immortality at its best... • How does it work? • The main creatures here are Protean Hydra, Phantom Nantuko, and Phantom Nomad. If they receive any amount of damage, they just remove a +1/+1 counter one by one on them until they die. But if you have some buffs like Flayer Husk, Leyline of Vitality, and Wilt-Leaf Liege, they will never they, because the attributes that they add are not counters. They just receive damage but will never die. In case someone casts hate spells like Wrath of God / Damnation, just hope that Dauntless Escort was already on the board. Once you drop Primordial Hydra, or Beastmaster Ascension, or Ajani Goldmane, then you're pretty much on the upper hand now. • Budget Version (Around $10-$12) • -4 Primordial Hydra = +4 Phantom Centaur -2 Wilt-Leaf Liege = +2 Rite of Passage / +2 Spidersilk Armor / +2 Lumithread Field / +2 Veteran Armorer -1 Sensei's Divining Top = +1 Beastmaster Ascension -2 Enlightened Tutor = +1 Story Circle & +1 Oblivion Ring / +2 Phantom Tiger -4 Path to Exile = +4 Condemn -2 Ajani Goldmane = +2 Oblivion Ring And use Basic Lands with 4 Terramorphic Expanse / Evolving Wilds. Cool concept. Just removing 1/1 counters actually didn't kill them eh?
That's the main concept. I'm still contemplating if I should put in Rite of Passage btw.
I think Veteran Armorer or Lumithread Field would also be good. You can consider Parapet too for the extra +0/+1.
Flayer Husk / Leyline of Vitality / Wilt-leaf Liege is enough to do the job. Thanks!
But why Flayer Husk? Isn't it focused on one creature at a time?
It goes well with the mana curve. 1 to cast with a 1/1 blocker and a +1/+1 equip for to make my Hydra / Phantom immortal. It can also be a good counter builder for the Beastmaster Ascension. It is focused on one creature at a time but one immortal blocker with Flayer Husk on it is enough to control the flow of damage until you get Leyline of Vitality or Wilt-Leaf liege. And if ever i'll add an enchantment for +0/+1 stats, that would rather be Spidersilk armor. Thanks!
I think you're kinda right. It made the deck a lot faster. I get your point. And kudos for you for adding Dauntless Escort.
Ow yeah, if the creatures get that extra +0/+1 from leyline of vitality, they wouldn't die from removing +1/+1 counters on them. This would be great against aggro/stompy. I get it. You don't want them to die.
Forgot to say but, how about Phatom Centaur? 4 to cast for 5/3 Trample.
I love that card. It could be a game winner because of it's protection from black. But after several playtests, primordial hydra works better. Maybe if you're planning to make a budget version of it, then take out Primordial hydra and put in Phantom Centaur.
Scared of Ghosts? I am now !!! Rite of Passage would fit the theme beautifully, but your current mana curve is currently, to be modest: insanely well.
There's originally 2 Rite of Passage and 2 Mikaeus, the Lunarch but I removed them because it made the deck a little slow. I';; just rely on Leyline of vitality & Flayer husk on giving the +1/+1 even if the creatures don't have counters left. And wait for the Beastmaster Ascension to give the sudden boost. Primordial Hydra / Beastmaster Ascension / Ajani Goldmane already gives a good winning condition. Thanks!~
*Note: Playtested "Sai of the Shinobi" from Planechase as a subtitute for "Flayer Husk". It is really fast in equipping at the beginning but in mid-late game, it's instant-equip ability is not very useful at all. Flayer Husk is still better because it can act as a blocker in early game. And it doesn't need to be equipped really early in the game.*
Awesome concept, looks like it would be alot of fun to play :) Have to ask,though... Is Faerie Macabre a stand in for something else in you SB? I can't see how (no black mana) or why you would ever use it. ^.^
Faerie Macabre is my main grave hate card here. I just love it's instant speed graveyard removal. You don't even have to cast it, you just need to discard it. Although it only removes 2 cards, I think that's quite enough already. Ooooohhhhh.... Herp derp. I can read, really. XD Good plan! A neat way to surprise someone.
I like it!! The best part is the budget version, going to do that with my decks from now on :D. Very creative and fun, 10/10.
