••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• How does it Work? •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• Use Torpor Orb and Illusionary Mask to disregard the ETB (Enters the Battlefield) abilities of your creatures. ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• Illusionary Mask? •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• What Illusionary Mask does is it has an activated ability that you can only activate when you could cast a sorcery. To activate the ability you choose a value for (X), when the ability resolves you may put a creature card from your hand onto the battlefield facedown as a 2/2 provided that creature card's mana cost could be paid by some or all of the mana spent on (X). (X) should be equal or higher than the creature's casting cost. When that face down creature would deal, be dealt damage, or become tapped it is turned face up and then deals, is dealt, or becomes tapped. Thus, removing the "Enters The Battlefield" part of it. ••••••••••••••• Abuse Torpor Orb and Illusionary Mask and unleash the PHENOM! ••••••••••••••••••••

Ha ha you are in luck I have actually been messing around with different builds of a Torpor Orb deck. I think that it has turned out pretty well on paper but I haven't ever played this type of deck before. The link is below. It is basically a revamp of the Stifle/Dreadnought deck. I went with a blue deck with a white splash mostly for enlightened tutor. I don't think that a mono black deck is going to get the most out of Torpor Orb without a blue or white splash. You will need to get Torpor Orb in order for any of your creatures to be playable so you will need some good tutors or more cards like Torpor Orb or both. You will also need to protect your monster creatures once you get them out. Once any of these creatures are in play and protected your opponent is most likely done for. You have 8 Dark Rituals in this deck btw. "Torpor Orb Shenanigans" Deck link: http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=187649

I really love Stifle and I almost turn this into a 3-colored deck because of that. But I ended up using B/W colors instead. 4 Illusionary Mask / 4 Torpor orb / 4 Enlightened tutor is enough for me. And I think using Hunted Horror / Nyxathid (instead of just 4 Leveler / 4 Eater of Days / 4 Phyrexian Dreadnought) would at least speed up the deck. But thanks for the advice! Ooops, didn't see the 8 dark rituals.
Really cool theme. Illusionary Mask acts like Torpor Orb too. But I still don't fully understand the whole thing. So basically you need to pay the CMC or more of the creature to put it down? Like paying 1 for Emrakul?
The mana cost for the creature has to be paid into X. If you want to put Hunted Horror down, [B][B] has to be part of the mana spent on X. For Emrakul, the same 15 generic mana. Thanks~
So "Enters the battlefield" and "comes into play" abilities do not trigger from the card being flipped face up, right? It's getting clear now.
YES! The card is not entering the battlefield, it is just turning face up. Any cards with abilities that trigger 'when this card is turned face up' will trigger though.
It's actually a really good card eh? But How would this work with DFC's?
Yea, there's actually a specific rule for that. "711.6. A double-faced permanent always has the status "face up" (see rule 110.6). Double-faced permanents can't be turned face down. If a spell or ability tries to turn a double-faced permanent face down, nothing happens."
Nice. Didn't know that kind of card even exist. And I can't understand what it says when I read it. But I researched about it and I came to this conclusion. Basically, this thing lets you Morph something for it's casting cost, and it has a triggered ability that turns it face-up, instead of using the Morph ability. And it's a 2/2 creature too right?
Yes. That's the whole point of the card. But to kinda' more clarify it, the effect that causes the 'morph' to be turned face-up is a replacement effect not a triggered ability. It was a 0/1 creature before but got errata'd into a 2/2 now.
Now I get it. Good to know that. I would rather throw this card away if I didn't know how it really worked and it's really that hard to understand.
The card actually costs a lot now, I bought this from a person who don't fully understand what it does. He really thought it was a trash card. I don't wanna' say how much I bought it, but he really sold it to me in a very CHEAP price >.<.
Good call, I never thought using Illusionary Mask to avoid ETB. Care to check out my version? I did it a few months ago. Thanks! http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=323429
Already checked that out and that's really a good deck. Nice one Razka~
love the hate
Very nice Torpor Orb cancels so much. It makes flicker decks uterly pointless. Very nice use of it in this deck. 5 Stars. I have a BW deck as well. Check it out: http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=377472

Love the deck, if it wasn't so obscenely expensive I would get it in a heartbeat. torpor orb + phyrexian dreadnought = WTF.
Yeah. More broken if you draw Dark Ritual too. WTTFFFF! Thanks daishar!~
