I like this. Used to play Rock when I first got into Modern. I would like to suggest that maybe you should drop the Thoughseizes to the sideboard and add 2 more Collected Companies (so good right now). Also, to recur life lost from Dark Confidant you should also play some number of Kitchen Finks. I would also drop a land or two considering how low your curve is.

Another thing that I wanted to say is that I understand the ramp through noble hierarch, why not drop the Life's Legacies. You are playing blue, why not play something like Serum visions in place of the legacies to help you set up. I know you only draw 1 card off of Serum visions but it looks at 3 cards, only costs 1 and helps you set up faster kills as life's legacy requires that you have a creature already to cast. Yes, you will most likely get more cards due to the size of your creatures but I feel like sacking a sizeable creature to just draw cards when you have a blocker/attacker that's good enough you shouldn't need more cards. I could understand maybe if Life's Legacy also gained you life but it's just cards. If you want a reasonable trade off you should run Disciple of Bolas. It costs 4 but it leaves you with a creature, draws cards the same way, AND you gain life. I would further like to suggest that if you make this change that you should drop the nobles as well and get rid of green. Nobles only ramp into the blue creatures anyways Just run blue/black, play a mix of serum visions, disciples and thoughtseizes/inquisitions. This will make you a lot more efficient I think.
Sounds reasonable. I won't argue that logic considering how much damage people tend to do to themselves in Modern. Maybe going to 2 instead? It seems like it could be pretty bad to have 2 of 3 in your opening hand where if that 2nd one was just a Darkslick Shores instead. That being said, I like the logic of having something that can push you over the edge to win that can't be killed by sorcery speed spells and doesn't get blocked in the creature match-ups. It's kind of like having a lightning bolt that can't be countered.
I've always wanted to build a torpor orb deck like this. I like the creatures you've selected. However the only thing I saw that I don't think is necessary are the Creeping Tar-Pits. They always will enter in tapped and they require a lot of mana to use. They can be a late game mana dump but with just 20 lands and the speed that you are trying to go I would suggest you only have lands that enter untapped (atleast most of the time, Darkslick Shores are good)
Blood Moon is a card I would like to see almost every game. However, it's bad in multiples. Yes, having the play set almost guarantees that I'll have it by turn 3 for me to jam, but drawing 1 or 2 more after I've put one down makes it a dead card. I'd much rather draw a removal or another threat than draw another Blood Moon. After play testing this deck for a while, 3 Blood Moons has been perfect. This deck stalls and waits till it draws a threat and you just pass draw steps back and forth until I'm able to play a Sorin and then I pretty much win.
Looks a lot like mine. Seems people are starting to see the potency of r/b/x decks. Mine plays only 1 creature mainboard though. You should get blood moon in here somewhere even though its kind of a nombo with tec edges and lavaclaw. Give mine a look though
Yeah. I like that most of your creatures just happen without having them in your hand. My deck build was meant to punish 3 color midrange decks that shock their lands off of fetches. And have nothing but red mana after I land a Blood Moon on turn 3. Catches Abzan off guard all the time game 1.
I made a deck like this a couple of days ago. It's pretty similar but plays less creatures. Does alot more board control. Check it out if you get the chance.
Thanks! I've been playing dredgevine for a while and I wanted to see a creature version. I love Fauna Shaman and creature based decks so this seemed good.
Though I agree with you, this deck is built to be lot faster than the other opponent having a blocker. Pharika isn't a bad idea, but I don't want anymore fauna shamans. Drawing them more than once a game isn't where I want to be with this deck and the other creatures are just so pertinant to this deck's game plan. death's shadow with varolz scavenge makes creatures too big anyways especially on something like Lotleth troll with trample and regen or Skaab Ruinator with fliying which most decks cant block early on anyways. If I do have an issue with certain creatures being in my way i have sideboard options to help my cause. Pharika isn't bad at all and i also thought of playing Tasigur but he is better with actual spells. The only problem with pharika is that I don't wnat to remove powerful creatures from my graveyard to make 1/1 deathtouchers. I'm willing to exile to cast Skaab ruinator who in my opinion will just be better overall for 3 mana. Besides I can't get Pharika out of the graveyard. Thanks for the suggestion though
Ponder makes this deck not Modern legal. Change them into Slight of Hand or retag the deck please
Not legal in Modern due to Comeuppance and Gerrard's Battle Cry. It's a cheap mono white legacy deck.
i thought he was trying to run a sweeper effect without double checking the actual win con of the deck. That being said with the ridiculous mana curve of this deck i would just run blasphemous act instead.
Toxic Deluge instead of the Fire Covenants
Take out 1 geist, 1 path and 1 birds for 3 lands and I think you have a solid game plan. Reasons: geist is good and you almost want to guarantee that you draw it every game but having multiples in your hand after you have one in play can really hurt you. Path is great but having 3 is solid and not having dead removal in your hand is good and makes snapcaster just a bit better. Birds does nothing past turn 4 most of the time and since youre adding land this should be acceptable and reduces your chances of drawing a 0/1 that does nearly nothing in the later game
I agree. This deck would be super healthy with 21 lands and thebramp you are playing. The way it sits now you are betting on being able to land and stick two mana dorks on turns 1 and 2 for your game to come together. This is almost never going to happen without severe repercussions. If you curved out on 2 mana and only had a handful of 3 drops I wouldnt disagree with 18 lands but with several 4 drops it needs to have more. Remember that a deck like this wins by being able to play multiple spells in one turn like casting a threat and being able to hold up removal or counters.
Also soulfire grandmaster is gonna seem lackluster without alot more burn. Just put in the playset of monostery mentors.
Why do you want Through the Breach? If you could explain maybe I could understand why you want it, but this does not seem to be the deck that that card belongs in. It could easily be replaced with a card that helps you win against poor matchups.
Sword of feast and famine was reprinted making it a lot cheaper (Modern Event Deck). I do think it's worth it. The sword is also usable in other decks as well. And it's just a one of.
I know this is supposed to be budget but maybe a sword would be something to have. Flyers with protection, added power and triggers are pretty awesome seems worth having a sword of feasy and famine (one of the cheapest ones)
