Deck Description

Discard

My previous discard deck was too passive, i lost most games because i had to have several turns to set up my megrims, lilliana's caresses etc in order to do any damage. ( i used alot of walls )
This one should be more aggresive and more fun to play.

Hints are welcome...!

some combo's:
- 1st turn : dark ritual, augur of skulls and cry of contrition, 2nd turn -> 4 cards discarded
- 1st turn dark ritual + abyssal nocturnus, 2nd turn hymn to tourach and swing for 6

Hypnotic Specter is too expensive for me, I wont pay 4 of them for € 10 a piece, not worth it imo..

Maybe for an Alpha or Beta Specter, but you can get them for under $2 from other sets.

I'd say if you need to be more aggressive throw in Guul Draz Specter. He becomes a 5/5 flier if they have no cards in hand and swings for an extra 2 for every Caress or Megrim you have(if they have cards in hand). It also only costs four and if you play discard well you know that you can stall things out till turn four.

Ye i had some Guul Draz Specters in my deck for a long time, but decided to replace them with my other creatures..
I'll give it some more thoughts, maybe i can switch out 2 abyssal Nocturnus for 2 Guul Draz Specter..

my goal is to inflict damage with the rack and quest and not so much with lilliana's caress or megrim.

I'm aiming at discarding my opponent's hand as fast as possible and then kill em in a few turns with cards like:
- Nyxathid
- Guul Draz Specter
- the Rack
- Quest for the Nihil Stone

It's a good card, but i think duress, inquisition or ostracize are better first-turn discard cards. Good idea tho.

My discard deck used Nezumi Shortfang. It's a permanent constant discard and when it flips it turns into a rack. Nothing more fun than having 4+ racks in play :)

Nezumi Shortfang is pretty good, but i'm not sure about the card rulings.. Do you have to make your opponent discard a card first to be able to flip it?

0
Posted 17 February 2011 at 18:44

Yes you have to use the ability to flip him. No they don't have to discard a card as a result of using Nezumi Shortfang's ability for him to flip.

As for making it type 2 you can look at my t2 discard deck.

Korlash, Hier to Blackblade is a great card to get the damage going faster, and for standard, Sword of Feast and Famine is AMAZING, it makes a specter that untaps your lands...Great. Will also help with the mana thing. maybe combo it with Nirkana Revenant..hehe, I might actually do that, it's TONS of mana! haha

Speaking of Blackblade, Dakkon is my avatar, it looks really good! Thanks Gary. I think you should reconsider Horrifying Revelation, it's a great card, even if it's not first turn. If you have a moment, check out my discard deck, it's in progress, I haven't collected all the cards for it yet :'( but I like it lots.

I don't think Korlash is that good in a discard deck, but i do liek Sword of Feast and Famine although it's a bit heavy in mana cost..

Hi MarkoTDK,

This deck has over 20 cards that are non-standard format. Its just too much work for me to tell you what to drop and what to add to make it standard legal.

If you drop the mind twists (vintage only legal) you might make this into a OK legacy deck.

Here is an example of a pretty good legacy discard deck.

Rogue Deadguy Ale: A Homebrew by Chris Pikula
Format: Legacy - RAV
Location: 2005 Grand Prix Philadelphia, PA
Finished: 2nd Place

Creatures
4 Dark Confidant
4 Hypnotic Specter
3 Nantuko Shade

Artifacts
2 Cursed Scroll

Spells
4 Dark Ritual
4 Duress
2 Engineered Plague
2 Gerrard's Verdict
4 Hymn to Tourach
4 Sinkhole
4 Vindicate

Land
4 Bloodstained Mire
4 Scrubland
10 Swamp
1 Tainted Field
4 Wasteland

Great advice bud, i guess i'll keep this deck for casual only

0

If you cared (which I think you don't as you said this is for casual) you could probably replace Mind Twist with Mind Sludge and get pretty much the same effect. It's kind of pricey, but I think it's somewhat of a waste to use Mind Twist if they have fewer than 4 or 5 cards anyway, especially since you have so many other single discards in the deck.

Maybe just sideboard it for a Blue draw-heavy deck or something.

Very nice - you got it.

The problem with discard decks - and they are hands down my fav - is what to do once they have no cards. I notice you have sign in blood - which is great, and you have some awesome creatures, BUT really, you will need more support than that if you really want to be effective.

So my suggestion, lose Quest of the Nhil stone, only truly effective if you get it in your opening hand (ive had it sit on the field with zero counters lots) - or at least drop it to 2 and bump the rack up one - thats always an effective card.

Also drop mind twist like a hot potato. Think about it mathematically: 2 mana for 1 card, 3 for 2 and your opponent will never have 4 cards left in their hand when you get 4 mana to force a 3 card discard. And even for those costs, its just not worth it. Throw in a bunch of other 1 drop discard cards. Even with Dark Ritual - there are just so many better options!!!
Use those two slots for Temple Bell (surewhynot gave me that tip - BEAUTIFUL!).

My first discard deck had Augur or Skulls in it, and it was nice - but, after using him, and loving him, I had to drop him for better cards. So I recommend the Guul Draz Specter be given the full 4 cards - he has won me ALMOST as many games as The Rack.

I have not used Abyssal Nocturnus in my discard deck, so I cannot say from experience, but I would just think that you would not get a chance to make the best use of his combo as, again, when you get him out, your opponents wont have much to discard. But who knows, I can certainly see myself being wrong on that one, but I would have to agree with some of the other fans of your deck and say that Lilliana's Caress needs to be a full 4 too! Damn she is so sexy!

Lastly - and its just me, but I dont care for the discard cards that give me peek at my opponents hands, it just does not matter cause they will never see the board anyhow. I prefer the cards that I can get multiple uses of (VERY nice if your drawing your 5th mana in the row) like Ravens Crime and Cry of Contrition. But like I said, its a toss up and its just my pref.

Please give my deck a look over, and comment if you like, youre good, I wouldn't mind your perspective. Ive recently added Wheel of Torture and am not sure if its gonna be effective. Ill let you know when I try. Otherwise, before the deck won 2/3 of the time easy, and the rest were almost always close ones!

Wow you really put a lot of effort in your comment, so just for that let me give you a big thumbs up! :)

First of all what aiming for in this deck is to discard my opponent's hand as quickly as possible and then start doing damage with the rack, guul draz, nyxathid etc..

I've yet to test this deck irl so i'm not sure what cards i should replace and what cards are really effective..

I'm gonna stick with 3 quests for now and see how it goes, maybe your right and it wont be that good as i hoped but hey we'll see.

I'm gonna keep mind twist aswell, cause i think it can be really destructive with a dark ritual. Temple Bell is something i dont want in my deck, because i wanna have my opponent with no hand all the time basically.

I think you might be right about 4x Guul Draz Specter and him + 4x the rack are probably a must in every discard deck.

Once again i wanna thank you for your great input and i'll be sure to check out your deck and post a comment real soon!

Such as Bloodghast or Nether Traitor but i don't sure that can work well :)
