Mid-Range Mardu deck I have put together for local meta after an FNM and some Sunday play testing at the local card shop. Deck relies on interaction between Butcher and Bloodsoaked Champion and of course Rabblemaster, with removal to get me to the mid range when the planeswalkers can hit the board. The Sideboard all has specific purposes, depending on the matchup:Drown in Sorrow and Chief of the Scale come in together for Lightning Strike and Monastery Swiftspear to deal with weenie and mana dorks, with Chief keeping Rabblemaster safe from Drown in sorrow.Erase comes in for Despise, to deal with enchantment heavy decks and protect from Banishing Light and Suspension FieldDeflecting Palm for Stoke to redirect heavy burn and Fattie decks. I can also bring in Suspension Field for Mardu Charm for additional help with Fatties.Elspeth can come in for Sorin to give me a late game win condition against slow, grindy decks, interacts great with Purphoros in these situations.
Ideal play is to get a Bloodsoaked Champion, Swiftspear or cast Despise on turn 1 if I can cast a basic or pain land, building to Rabblemaster turn 3. BSC did great work for me at FNM in one game in particular when I got 2 out and were my only 2 creatures out until I drew a Butcher on turn 6 and their raid ability, along with removal controlled the game until then. Once I can drop a Butcher, recycle BSC and trigger one of his abilities as the situation warrants. Sacrificing a Goblin or BSC for vigilance on Butcher, then +1 on Sorin to give Butcher Lifelink and a +1/+0 is particularly sweet and I will probably end up dropping a Sarkhan for a second Sorin.I hold back Crackling Doom as long as possible for creatures at the top of my opponents mana curve, which paired with Despise on early turns can keep the board under control nicely.I like the potential versatility with this deck and it's ability to adapt to different opponents, as well as what I draw, but as always everything looks good on paper :) Hopefully it holds up at this weeks FNM.
