Deck Description

This is an older tournament deck of mine. It has been retired for a while so I thought I'd revive it and run it by you guys to see if there are any updates that you would recommend?

The inspiration was the standard UW Tempo deck but I figured that adding a few more counters and some protection would not be a bad thing. I felt that I managed to do that without hurting the speed of the deck too much. The deck did very well and won me a few minor tournaments and was generally hated at the local FNM on Legacy night.

Revision 2 introduces Delvers and Stifle to the main. Yank the Delvers for Snapcasters and you flip it back towards more control.

How to Play

Most of the critters are pretty self explanatory but I'll touch on a couple:
St. Taft gives lots of deck types fits and if you can have Momma protect him he becomes a major handful real quick.
Familiar, (and Daze), are nothing but stall but the flight on the Familiar makes it somewhat useful even as a later draw.

However, the most common win is to sneak the Avengers in early with the Vial and let Momma take care of them. If you can equip one for the coup de grĂ¢ce then even better. The Delvers do pretty much the same and as such adds 4 additional killers.

Flooded Strand and the Knight locates your lands but often more importantly suffles your deck for Brainstorm. The Castle looks after St. Taft and Kira. FoW is there to counter those vital spells, dont throw it around just for fun.

Misdirection comes in mostly versus toasters and junk style decks. Submerge has goyf/mongoose written all over it. Minbreak calms the storm and can often be hardcast to exile that key part of a combo.

The Meddler is also there to choke up control/combo decks and deal with hate cards.
Kira, (especially combined with Mother), becomes the "great protector" against those pesky decks with all kinds of removal.
Venser is a little odd in a Tempo deck but the way he bounces uncounterable sideboard cards, (like Volcanic Fallout), and annoying hate permanents makes him a terrific tool. Combine him with Karakas and the fun begins.
...and they all increase the critter count

Yea, there are likely a couple of cards that can/should be upgraded. Impulse was mainly, (at the time), included because it is an instant but it too needs the shuffle effect. In a deck like this you'll find that you are often looking for a shuffle after a Brainstorm/Impulse, (dig baby dig).
