I'm looking for suggestions on how to improve this deck, and still keep it at least moderately budget and modern legal. Thanks!

Oh man, I've seen that Isochron scepter+silence combo in action. I don't know if I've ever been more frustrated. Which in this case, is a compliment to your deck!

All good additions. I think those are just what I'm looking for. I'll look into ordering them and edit them in as soon as they arrive. And in the meantime, I'll look into cutting some cards

Yeah, I know. My main theme here is getting counters on my creatures. Lifegain just happens to do that for some of my guys, i.e. Ajani's pridemate. Then, I attack with my big creatures and either take out a bunch blockers, or win.

I suppose that's true. I didn't realize all your outlast dudes had another ability. And I know, right?! Managorger hydra is a beast that has win me many-a-game.

This is pretty good! A couple cards I think you might want to look at are Ajani Steadfast, and Chronomaton. And maybe Managorger Hydra, If you are looking for a creature that can build up very quickly with counters, especially with Hardened Scales.

Nice deck! It doesn't quite fit the budget, but Legion Loyalist would be a good addition I think.
