Deck Description

Another casual deck for beating on my friends. I wanted to be a little different from the normal big green stompy deck, so I limited the creatures to (mostly) hydras. Other creatures are the staple mana elves and Gyre Sage, along with Renegade Krasis (it's sort of a hydra) that provides a huge boost to token production. These hydras can get HUGE, and quicker than you might realize.

I have modified this deck a little bit over the years, dropping some cards that proved unnecessary and swapping in new ones I have found. Still the same old hydra deck though and still fun to play.

How to Play

The ideal sequence of play is to drop an Elf turn 1, Gyre Sage turn 2, Krasis turn 3. Assuming you have been able to drop a forest all three turns, you should be set for mana production and can play any of the big guys on turn 4. They will in turn trigger Krasis and Gyre Sage to evolve, and you will get additional counters from the Krasis on everything. I have ended up with some absolutely nutty hydras with this deck. It's that "wow" factor that makes it so much fun to play, even if it can be a bit clunky at times.

Solidarity of Heros does AMAZING things!

Deck discussion for Hydras Evolved

The deck seems to carry lots of potential but I think you have too many Nylea's...also I would suggest to add more instants or sorcery so they can help you stall while you get the necessary mana for your creatures.

I have thought about that, but I know the second I cut them back I'm going to really want to trample and won't be holding any! I've also been thinking about what other spells would be most helpful; I'd like to cut back to only 2x Aspect of Hydra (they get big enough on their own) and get rid of Nissa's Expedition entirely. I stuck them in, replacing 2 forests, after getting a couple in my M15 packs but so far they have not made any significant difference. Mana production has been working smoothly, so there are 4 slots to fill, maybe 5 or 6 if I cut a couple Nylea's.

I've looked around the standard Instants and Sorcery cards honestly for how your deck works only adding an extra creature or so would help, most of the green sorcery or instants boost the creatures by +1/+1 and hydras get big enough as you said, fyi awesome name for the deck

Yes, that was my thoughts too when looking for different spells to include and keep it Standard. I am just going to play around with different enhancing spells and land grabs and see what feels best. It's fun to play either way.

You might want to put polkranos and genesis hydra in. It would make the deck a little faster

I've tried a couple of the Genesis Hydras in this deck in an earlier version, but never seemed to get much value out of it. Not to say it isn't worth a few more tries, though. It is pretty sweet to play it for 7, using the 5X to drop the Kalonian along with it, plus the extra drop can't be countered. I might have to keep the two I have in the box to swap in and out and see what happens.

The World Eater is a pretty wicked looking card, too, even just the 5/5 for 4. However, stacking up counters is the big trick I like to play with this deck and the double-X cost for his monstrosity just doesn't thrill me. Even trying to use it as a weenie-roaster wouldn't work out the best, since you'd be paying a minimum of 5 to even kill just 2 tiny enemies. It would make a great 4-drop after the Krasis, though. I also don't like its $$$ cost at the moment... way overpriced if you ask me. For a buck each I'd try a couple, but right now I don't think it would outplay anything that it would replace.

Been playing around with this deck for the past week or so, and it has been a blast! Occassionally you'll have a bad hand, but more often than not you get some absolutely ridiculous hydras by turn 5. After that it's just nails in the coffin unless you're facing a lot of removal.
